2 From the Pastor "Train up a child in the way he should go." Proverbs 22:6 We've heard these words often through our lifetime. There seem to be many varied insights and interpretations to this verse. But this we know...we have to TRAIN our children as they walk and live in this world. We train them in many areas. If we don't train them, the world will. And that outcome won't be good. The words "the way he should go" mean this..."the way best suited to your child's unique make-up, abilities, and God-given personality." Perfectionism violates these characteristics, encouraging your child to be something they weren't intended to be in order to gain approval. There are several ways you can help your child overcome this Convince them that they're valuable to God and you because of who they are and what they accomplish. And please don't compare your children's accomplishments to other's accomplishments. If you do, your children's lives & efforts will never be good enough for you. 2. Help them understand that it's impossible to complete every assignment and task without mistakes or errors. You're not perfect and you make many mistakes. So stop putting the standard on your child that they cannot make mistakes in their lives. None of us are perfect. Period. Teach them that mistakes can be great opportunities to begin again and to learn valuable lessons in thinking and decision-making. 3. Share with them your mistakes and poor decisions. Hopefully there won't be too long a list of those, but discuss your flaws and how you've grown through your own mistakes. When we do this we're not just preaching to our children, but we become real to them. They understand that we too struggle, worry, fear, and fail. 4. Explain that perfectionists get 'tunnel vision,' locking themselves into limited options for problem-solving. Teach them that there is more than one way to solve a problem, organize a project, and get things done. Flexibility is something that I've had to learn in ministry and just about every area of life. Annual Deacon Election Aug. 7 - Aug 14, 20 Continuing with our Deacon Rotation System, we will elect 6 new Deacons as 6 Deacons rotate off and become inactive for one year. Election ballots will be available on the prayer bench, in the foyers, church office, and Sunday School classes. Ballots must be signed and may be placed in the ballot boxes in the Sanctuary or brought to the church office. Pray that we follow God's leadership in this important ministry of our church. 5. Celebrate the EFFORT more than the RESULT. Let's do our best to praise things not related to our children's performance & achievement, such as generosity, honesty and kindness. 6. Reduce their pressure when and how you can. Do our children really need to be involved in every SPORT and every CLUB and every activity? Perfectionism is "too much of a good thing." It's said that it starts early and that children "don't grow out of it" naturally. Let's reduce our kid's pressure little by little and where and when we can. It will improve their quality of life. There's only one perfect person...and it's not any of our children or Mom & Dad's. Jesus and only Jesus is perfect. And on Him we must trust and lean. He will give us all we need as we walk and live day by day. I love each of you and what you do for our Lord and church. Blessings! CU Sunday.

3 Our CROSSETT CHURCH OUTREACH is August 4-6, starting at 7 pm, here at Mt. Olive! Invite your friends to attend these evangelistic services. It would be a fabulous thing to see your friends get saved! WE are blasting clay pigeons on Thursday, August 7 pm. We will supply everything during this outing. This is for the ladies as well as the gents! Sign up and get your name on the list or text me by 3 pm that afternoon. WOW!! School starts in a couple of weeks! That means we have FUN FACTOR going on this month too! AUGUST 13 th is when we will do this fellowship! This is to welcome our NEW 7 th grade class coming in to the group! We meet at the church at 1 pm!! Then, after the fellowship, we will head over to the NUTTER home and take the plunge! See EVERYONE there! Our OVERTIME meetings will be Sunday night August 14 Subway and August 28 the Jones (let s go swimming!). We are going to BAPTIST YOUTH Magic Springs on Saturday, Aug 27 th. Doug Compton will be the speaker that for day! We will meet at the 7 am to 7:15 am! Admission cost is $30. You will need money for two meals too! To the HEART, our monthly meeting will be AUGUST 8 th, :30 COUNTRY VITTLES! See you at the meeting! The choir will be practicing Tuesday, Aug 23 2 pm, in the choir room. And, if you are going to the FALL JUBILEE 20 conference, the final payment is due Sept 1 st! Thanks! Pray for the Tohlen family! We are going on VACATION!! Yes, I m taking the Julie, Trey, Jennifer, and Brian. No, the cats can not make this trip! Thanks church family for letting us have this week off! In Christian Love, Operation Christmas Child Immediate Needs- To fill at least 100 shoe boxes in October, we have the following needs: 300 blue or black ink pens, 300 #2 lead pencils, 100 (24 pack) crayons, 100 glue sticks (no liquid please), 100 magic markers, & 100 pairs of scissors. Your assistance is greatly appreciated. Please place items in the OCC box in the front foyer. If you prefer to make a donation, give $$ to Betty Willis, Ruth White, or Vicki in the office and we ll buy the supplies in bulk. Our Wonderful Wednesday Night Meals will resume August 17! Anita is asking for volunteers to help by being on the rotating schedule to cook. Contact Anita or the church office to get on the schedule! Meals are $3.00 per person.

4 Hey Look at these Dates For Your August/ September Calendar! Saturday, August 20: Back to School Adventure to Excalibur in West Monroe. Leaving at 10 AM. For preschool thru 6th grade. A parent or adult must accompany their preschooler. Prices vary according to activity: $4 for miniature golf, $4 for rock wall climbing, $4 for laser tag, $5 for Go-Kart. Saturday, August 22: Stars & Mentors Luau at the Jim & Ann Nutter home at 6 PM! Sunday, September : Now That I m A Christian Class For New Christians. 5 PM. This is a class for all kids who have become a Christian this year including: Tori Porter, Matt Barnett, Lexie Wilson, Mckenzie Ford, Michaela Ford, K.W. Rial, Lydia Reid, Alexis Reid, Andrew Swan, Benjamin Brockwell. We will schedule a meeting for parents soon. Books are $6. Sunday, September 25: Sock-It-2 Sunday School High Attendance Day! Wear your craziest socks in celebration of this great day of high attendance in Sunday School. More info coming in September.
