1 Let Us Remember We are approaching a huge time of transition. On June 30 th Pastor Sandy Hildebrand will end her long tenure on our pastoral staff. She will continue in ministry but it will be as the Administrator/Counselor for Adams Care and Counseling. This is a shift that she has been studying for and has been long-awaited. Dr. Robert J. Brink Senior Pastor Sandra A. Hildebrand Pastor of Congregational Life Jerry Mitchel Pastor of Visitation KC Graves Pastor of Student Ministries Jamie Conkling Worship Arts Pastor Stacy Krull Director of Children s Ministries & Preschool Director Debbie Brink Day Care Director Nancy Krick Office Manager Notary The Appreciation Meal for Pastor Sandy is scheduled for June 29 th. This meal will be a carry in Brunch with a special table for Pastor Sandy and a table with cake and punch. During the Morning Service Pastor Sandy will lead us in a Children s Moment and have all who have sat under her teaching through the years come forward and join the kids. A prayer of appreciation and blessing will be lifted on her behalf. I want to take this opportunity to express my appreciation for her 22 years of service to the Decatur Church of God. She has been an Associate Pastor serving with me for over 13 years and her ministry has been of great value. Many of you have sat under her teaching, received her comforting hospital visitations, and been blessed by her compassionate touch during those grieving times in the loss of our loved ones. We have also valued her leadership in our small group ministry. We will miss her pastoral staff participation. Join with me in making her last month in her official ministry here one that is filled with blessing, both God s anointing and expressions of our love and appreciation. Thank You Pastor Sandy, Dr Robert Brink

3 MISSIONARY OF THE MONTH Dave & Kathy Simpson-Bulgaria Did Kathy ask any of you for permission to tell a children s story on Sunday mornings? My heart sank (and my frustration rose) when Dave told me about the question the church president posed to the other elected leaders. Even though I had been well aware of the hierarchical nature of church leadership in the Plovdiv congregation, it never occurred to me that I would need authorization to include a three minute segment for children in the worship plan. Isn t this the same group of people who had been praying year after year for the Lord to send us young people? Perhaps they haven t noticed. Their prayers have been answered! We now have two young families and regularly their five children enliven our Sunday times together. It is a joy to see the little ones and to consider how far many of the established members have come. We clearly remember when youngsters and their parents were sternly scolded for noise and movement inside the Prayer House. It was time to go further in the demonstration of ministry to children. But at least one person objected. The Church Council members considered the question, and agreed that no one had talked to them about adding a children s story. The president emphasized that no one person has the license to change the function of the church; there needed to be a vote. One gentleman said he didn t see any problem with the children s lesson. Another member added that he had no objection. When the third person enthusiastically supported the story time, the president began retracting her opposition. The group agreed the children s time should continue. The brief story focuses on one aspect of the sermon and it accomplishes several goals: (1) It demonstrates that children are valued in our fellowship. (2) It teaches basic Biblical stories and themes to youngsters. (3) It shows that children can learn spiritual concepts at an early age. (4) It models techniques to adults for talking about faith to children and unchurched people. (5) It sets the stage for the sermon. More and more we see smiles and hear murmurs of approval from the older members. Recently two ladies told me they enjoyed seeing the children in the front. They thanked me for the story, which helps them learn how to talk to children about faith. It is so easy the way you do it -no big words just simple ideas. I should learn to do this. Amen! In a fellowship basically bereft of the children and grandchildren of the long time members, they need to practice Joel 1:3 (NIV), Tell it to your children, and let your children tell it to their children, and their children to the next generation. May the Sunday morning story equip them to do just that. DCOGY NINJAS INSOMNIA ALL-NIGHTER The youth will be meeting here at the church at 7 PM on Friday, June 6th and can be picked up at 7:30am on Saturday the 7th. The over-nighter will include bowling, mini-golf, go-carts, laser tag, arcade games and more! The cost of $30 includes pizza, snacks and breakfast. Sign-up today! CLOTHE A KID FOR SCHOOL PROJECT is giving a great opportunity for you to reach out to needy children by providing school clothes. You would purchase one or more sets of clothes which will contain the following items: 1 pair pants, 2 shirts/blouses, 3 pairs of socks, 3 sets of underwear, 1 light jacket or sweater. All clothing must be new, yet moderately priced (avoid expensive name brand clothes). You will be given the first name and number of a needy child along with the sizes needed. A form is available on the lobby table for you to receive a child s information. Please complete the form and return to the church office as soon as possible! Completed purchased items need to be in to PRAYER FRESHENER FOR THE MONTH We have to pray with our eyes on God, not on the difficulties. Oswald Chambers

My Dad s wake was an unusual situation, but you truly went out to the world and witnessed. May our awesome God be blessed with your reaching out over and above. Karin Conrad, Tom Conrad, Chris Teeple & Moni Hall A huge thank you for all the prayers, thoughts, cards and meals during my recent surgery. It was very appreciated as you all are wonderful. Sonny Davis A HUGE thank you to everyone who made the Candlelight dinner such a success from the ladies who hosted tables to the men who served, from the delicious dinner to the delightful entertainment. Thanks especially to those who filled in at the last moment and didn't miss a beat...it was a job well done and greatly enjoyed by all!
