1 Asbury etrails Welcome, Jane! I am Jane Voelkel, and I am thrilled to serve as Interim Pastor at Asbury United Methodist Church. Our prayers are with Pastor Ron as he recovers. Just a little about me- I've served churches as a United Methodist pastor since I moved to Albuquerque to be closer to my brother and his family, after living at least a 10 hour drive from family for several years. I love being a pastor, and gives thanks for a profession that has brought me so much joy. I have a nine pound dog named Chadley. I enjoy cooking, movies, exercising, and am pretty compulsive about staying up do date on the news and current events. I love to learn about new things. If you have need of me, please feel free to call me at I look forward to learning more about the many ministries of Asbury United Methodist Church, and ask your prayers that I might be the best interim pastor possible. In 1954, Leonard and Bernice Nichols started holding Sunday School in their Northeast Heights home. On July 21, 1957, the new church building (on the edge of town) was dedicated. Our church library has several volumes of scrapbooks chronicling the history of Asbury. Come Worship With Us! 4 Asbury trails 4 The Asbury Home Connection Helping to Fund the Missions of Asbury United Methodist Church Wear your best hat on Sunday, August 13th as we celebrate Kay Scott's presentation of Hats Off to the Ladies. This will be a comical and informative history of the United Methodist Women's evolution over the last 150 years using the popular fashions of the day. From bustles, hoop skirts, and bonnets with bows to the straight sheath dresses, and pillbox hats Jackie Kennedy made famous, Kay will take us back in time to explain our history. Guaranteed to be a fun afternoon starting at 12:30 with a pot luck luncheon hosted by the Hannah Circle. All women in the Asbury community are invited to attend; child care is always available. The Asbury Home Connection is a real estate referral service that helps buyers or sellers of real estate find a real estate broker to assist them in the purchase or sale of property (not just homes). What is in it for Asbury? As a result of Asbury helping to arrange the real estate broker arrangement for a buyer and/or seller, Asbury will receive 25% of the real estate commission generated in the sale. The money goes to Asbury, without deduction for administrative fees or expenses, in order to support Asbury missions. How does it work? If you are buying or selling property in this state of any other state, call or text Dennis Fish at or him at dennispfish@gmail.com and tell him that you want to use the Asbury Connection for the sale or purchase. Dennis will make the contact with the realtor you want to use or if you don t have a realtor, he can help you or he can help you find a realtor. Once the relationship is established, the sale transaction is the same as any other real estate sale or purchase. What if I want to use my own realtor? You can use any realtor that you want. All that needs to happen is that you need to contact Dennis Fish as the representative of the Asbury Home Connection before you sign a listing agreement with another realtor. When you talk to Dennis, just tell him who you want to use as your realtor. After that, your communications in the sale process are all with the realtor of your choice. Is it only available in Albuquerque? No. If your children, parents or friends are looking for a realtor or have a realtor that they want to use in another City or state, just have them contract Dennis before signing a listing agreement with that realtor. Does using the Asbury Home Connection make the transaction cost more? No. The real estate commission will be the same whether you use the Home Connection or not. 5 Asbury trails 5 Thanks to everyone who helped with Vacation Bible School! Music on the Mountain, our conference music camp that Dacia directs, went very well. Asbury has provided 10 full camper scholarships via the Quilt Ministry! This gift of camp experiences is having Kingdom impact. I m blessed to be part of a giving church family such as this! Dacia Lust Welcome, Pastor Jane, to Asbury. Morris & Mary Webb celebrated their 48th anniversary on July 11. Nine women attended Mission u at Sacramento. Many thanks to Lisa, our Office Administrator, for all she does. Thank you, Debbie Elliott for coordinating all the pie parties here at Asbury. You are the apple of our pies!! For those who have fought for the rights we cherish here in the U.S. Prayers for healing of our nation! Dave Dean The Marsh and Carlson family are delighted that Ellen s little brother finally made his appearance. Joseph Canfield Carlson Marsh VI showed up on June 27, Laurie s dad s birthday! Kellie and Michael are on their way back to Chicago next Saturday to take care of family business. Prayers for safe travels. Safe travel for my son Shawn and family. They are coming for a visit on Tuesday the 27th from China. Shirley Frazier I give thanks that I passed the licensing exams and begin a new career here in Albuquerque. Dave Dean My nephew, Derrick Driskill, was taken to a hospital in Denver from his home in Vail, Colorado with a massive stroke and is in very critical condition. So far blood clots have been surgically removed from his brain. We expect that he will need more surgery to remove clots from his lungs. Dacia Lust Prayers for my cousin, Linda Ailes, who is scheduled for cancer surgery. Dave Dean Prayers for Major Bill Barker s family. He has been removed from life support after brain tumor and stroke. Jean and Tom McLarty Bob Stiles, who is a member of our 8:30 congregation, has moved into a retirement center and cannot drive anymore. Prayers for Debbie Elliott for a quick recovery from a serious kidney infection and kidney stones. Ernie, Michael s dad, is now on Hospice, which is why he hasn t been here much lately. Kellie still doesn t have work but has come very close and is getting more interviews. Hopefully a few more prayers will be all it takes! My sister is having heart surgery this week prayers for a successful surgery and recovery. Steve Ward

6 Asbury trails 6 AN ACTS ASBURY COMMUNITY OUTREACH University Heights United Methodist Church 2210 Silver Ave, SE Next Meal: August 6, 2017, 5:00 p.m. Adult Sunday School Classes Meet at 9:45 a.m. Trailblazers - Open to adults of all ages and meets in the Hospitality Room on the south end of the Atrium. Adult Bible Study - uses the Adult Bible Studies series published through Cokesbury and meets in Rooms 1-2 in the West Hall. Sign Language Class Are you interested in learning sign language? Would you like to learn to sign hymns? Mary Webb teaches the sign language class that meets on Thursdays at 6:30 p.m. on the east end of the church. Join us! Pie Cafe Sign-Ups Volunteer sign-up sheets for the Asbury Cafe are in the Breezeway soon. Consider working a shift for this incredible mission. Pie bakers are also needed. Rotation Sunday School August Theme Jesus Parables August 6 - Movie August 13 Games August 20 - Cooking August 27 - Art Rotation Sunday School is for 1st-5th grades. We focus on one story for a month, so we can remember them well. Our year-long theme is Obeying God.
