1 West Hills Community Church Volume 21, Issue 9 November 2018 Dear Church Family Today I want to say this to you: THANKS FOR GIVING! I mean it. I m very thankful for the generous spirit of everyone in our church. I m constantly amazed at your willingness to give. I love the words of 2 Corinthians 9:10-11 where the Apostle Paul says: Now he who supplies seed to the sower and bread for food will also supply and increase your store of seed and will enlarge the harvest of your righteousness. You will be made rich in every way so that you can be generous on every occasion, and through us your generosity will result in thanksgiving to God. Notice how I have divided up these verses. There are really three thoughts here. FIRST, God is generous with us. We have everything we need, don t we? We have homes and cars and food and clothes and families and friends and a church family, etc., etc. SOOOOOOOO MUCH! We are blessed! And that s just the physical. We also have the Lord Jesus Christ as our Savior and the Holy Spirit as our guide and God the Father as our inheritance in Heaven. SO MUCH! Then, SECOND, notice why God has given us so much So that you can be generous on every occasion. God gives to us so that we can give to others. This month we will be talking about ways we can be generous. Let me mention three: 1) UNION GOSPEL MISSION FOOD DRIVE. On Sundays, November 4, 11 & 18 there will be collection barrels in our church lobby. Please brings lots of non-perishable food to donate. 2) UNION GOSPEL MISSION PRESENTATION. On Sunday morning, November 4 we will be hosting a presentation by representatives from the mission. They will be telling us about their work as well as their 3-year campaign to raise funds for their new mission facility here in downtown Salem. Also, we will serve a light lunch after church for those who want to stay and hear even more about their project. 3) PREPARING FOR CHRISTMAS GIFTS. As we move from Thanksgiving into Christmas, we will be launching a Christmas Food Box and Children s Gifts project. If you know of a family nearby that could use a food box or gifts for children, please let the church office know. We will have a form you can fill out. Then everyone in church will have the opportunity to take a tag off the Giving Tree in the lobby during December. Now, look at that THIRD section in the verses above. Notice what the outcome of our giving will be: and through us your generosity will result in thanksgiving to God. That s the ticket! God get s the glory and the praise and the thanks. Why? Because He gave us everything we have in the first place. We re just passing it on! Please join me in expressing the great generosity of God this Thanksgiving and Christmas! Love you all! It s been a blessing to be able to take the gospel to another level, we have spread the gospel to hundreds, through church service, sports outreach, Salem Free clinics, and personal evangelism. We praise God for the families God added to our church and talking about that, there is a special praise for Ramon. You all know he was homeless and came to Christ a few months ago; his wife Guadalupe came to the Lord just a month ago, and they officially decided to get back together and God is restoring their family completely. Prayer Requests: 1. For Pedro C., to come to the Lord. 2. For strength for Maria C. 3. For all the new contacts we have made to be convicted about their need to come worship with us on Sundays. 4. For Hilario to come to the Lord, and join his family at church. 5. For God to provide a car for my wife Laura. 6. For Senon, opportunities for work. Thanks so much for praying, we are excited to continue to reach Hispanics for Christ. Pastor Sorin Men s Ministries... Greetings! Your men s ministry commission continues in prayer for our marriages and families here at WHCC. Like never before, marriages and families are at risk. Guidance and answers are given in God s word. Will we humble ourselves and then do the hard work to search out answers and put them into practice? Wisdom is required (James 1:5). Pastor Marcus has recently been preaching a series of messages aimed specifically at families and children. Please take the opportunity to attend our Sunday services regularly. It is important that you do! Two men s Bible studies are ongoing. One is called Resolution and is a study based on the movie Courageous. This study encourages men to resolve to be exceptional husbands, fathers, grandfathers etc. -to take the challenge to be accountable to biblical standards of conduct and obedience. It is a real test for those who have begun the study. We will offer it again-maybe in the spring. Retreat days are set for the men at Wi-Ne-Ma near Neskowin. Those dates are Feb. 8th, 9th and 10th, Our commission seeks your input. If you are interested in joining men s ministries commission please make it known. Children s Ministries... With the holiday season on the horizon, I've been reflecting on what a good and generous God we serve. I am thankful for many things, especially my church family.

At the Seaside Retreat, I had my first opportunity to meet other NAB Children's Directors and Pastors.

The kids at West Hills are so full of Christ's compassion and love; it warms my heart to hear their excitement to share Jesus with their friends! We will be discussing thankfulness during November in Children's church. Please join me in prayer that God would reveal Himself in a new and personal way to them--that they would be bursting with thankfulness for Him. It was so encouraging to build relationships with leaders of Children's Ministries in order to discuss new ideas and strategies of effectively reaching children of this generation. Granola Pancake Mix Peanut Butter Community Life... When I see an abundance of generosity, I am just so thankful! Generosity is what allows so many ministries to be fruitful. The Holy Spirit can use generous people! I want to give our generous people a shout out for how they have blessed me (and all of WHCC) by their offering of time, talent, and treasure. We were able to remodel the sanctuary because we had the money from generous givers to our capital campaign and because we had a ton of workers give their time Canned Tuna Canned Chicken Granola Bars Protein Bars Vinagrettes Corned Beef Hash and come help! Because of faithful giving, we had money to do a critical parking lot repair. It was imperative that we fixed the cracks and sealed the top so we did not have to repave the whole lot. We had church guys who helped me clean and prepare the lot and guys who loaned us their equipment. Because you give, we can buy new ballasts and light bulbs; water the lawn and heat/cool the building; clean the carpets. We were able to replace a furnace on the nursery end of Spaghetti Sauce Tomato Sauce Canned Tomatoes Cranberry Sauce the building and recently do some exterior painting. There were a bunch of guys who sacrificed their time and energy this last Friday and Saturday to help one of our church families move. Youth Pastor... We ve had a really great start for our Youth Group meetings this school year.

Lately it seems like we ve been seeing at least one new face each week. First thing up in November is our Fall Middle School Retreat back at Camp Tapawingo.

This year s theme is Blaze and refers to our being on fire for God in every aspect of our lives. Please pray for a safe and productive weekend for everyone who attends.

5 Youth Pastor... We ve had a really great start for our Youth Group meetings this school year. Kids are still very busy with sports and other activities; but it s been really neat to see so many students inviting friends to our weekly meetings. Lately it seems like we ve been seeing at least one new face each week. First thing up in November is our Fall Middle School Retreat back at Camp Tapawingo. We ll be there on November 2nd 4th and are expecting over 50 students attending this activity, all coming from five different churches. This year s theme is Blaze and refers to our being on fire for God in every aspect of our lives. Please pray for a safe and productive weekend for everyone who attends. We ll also be having our annual Fundraiser of selling Christmas Wreaths. You ll be able to see a sample on November 18th in the church lobby. The Youth Group is so blessed by the wonderful generosity of our church body. As always, I am so very thankful for all the prayers regarding the Youth Group. Keep praying that the volunteer staff and I can continue to encourage and support the students who come on a regular basis. In His Grip, Pastor Bobby I am the vine; you are the branches.
