3 PARISH NEWS AND EVENTS: Church School Registration: Don t forget to register your children who are in Pre-School through the 12 th grade for the Church School Year. There is a sign up board on the front doors of the church. Please see Angie DiFlorio if you have any questions. NOTE: There will be a parents meeting in the basement of the church following Liturgy today, if your child is enrolled please plan on attending. Pan-Orthodox Picnic: The Pan-Orthodox Picnic will be held Sunday, Sept 18 th at Serb Park (Off Eisenhower Blvd) from 11am to 6pm. Help is needed to serve food from 12:00-2:00pm. Baked goods are also needed. Anyone interested in donating baked goods, please bring them to church on Sun. Sept. 18 th by 10:30am. Please label them for Pan Orthodox Picnic. Food Fest Volunteer Sign-up: Please see Mike Zuro or Doug Cain to learn how you can help with our upcoming Slavic Food Fest (Oct 1 & 2). They will have the list at fellowship today. Food Fest Baked Goods: Ethnic and specialty baked goods are needed for our Parish Food Fest. Goods must be easily placed in individual containers for sale. Please drop off your baked goods no later than Sat. Oct 1 st by 9am. You can also drop them off on Fri, Sept 30 th. If you have any questions, please see or call Jean Dotsey or Alice Mallick. The "O" Club is collecting empty glass baby food jars with lids (larger junior size, not infant size) for use at their District Convention. Please bring, and place in the box in the foyer of the church. Calendar Update: A presentation about the Russian Brotherhood Organization of the USA will be given on Sunday, Sept Note: Date Change), during Fellowship Hour. Chris & Bill Dupkanick will discuss RBO history, list fraternal benefits and scholarships available, and explain different policy plans Claire Yerke Baptism: On Saturday, October 8th at 12pm Claire Yerke will be Baptized and Chrismated into the Holy Orthodox Faith. The Yerke s are inviting the entire parish family to share in their joy (reception to follow at our parish hall). Our Book Discussion will be held on Sunday, September 25th at 3pm at the Agia Sophia Coffee House & Bookstore (225 Market Street, Harrisburg). Fellowship Hour Schedule: Parishioners are asked to help by bringing at least 48 servings of baked goods and to serve them during their assigned fellowship hour. 5 SCRIPTURE READINGS FOR SUNDAY SEPTEMBER 11, 2011 Galatians 6:11-18 (Epistle, Sunday Before the Elevation of the Cross) Brethren, see with what large letters I have written to you with my own hand! 12 As many as desire to make a good showing in the flesh, these would compel you to be circumcised, only that they may not suffer persecution for the cross of Christ. 13 For not even those who are circumcised keep the law, but they desire to have you circumcised that they may boast in your flesh. 14 But God forbid that I should boast except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom the world has been crucified to me, and I to the world. 15 For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision nor uncircumcision avails anything, but a new creation. 16 And as many as walk according to this rule, peace and mercy be upon them, and upon the Israel of God. 17 From now on let no one trouble me, for I bear in my body the marks of the Lord Jesus. 18 Brethren, the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with your spirit. 6 John 3:13-17 (Gospel, Sunday Before the Elevation of the Cross) The Lord said, No one has ascended to heaven but He who came down from heaven, that is, the Son of Man who is in heaven. 14 And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of Man be lifted up, 15 that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life. 16 For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. 17 For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved. Matthew 21:33-42 (Gospel) The Lord said to His Disciples, 33 Hear another parable: There was a certain landowner who planted a vineyard and set a hedge around it, dug a winepress in it and built a tower. And he leased it to vinedressers and went into a far country. 34 Now when vintage-time drew near, he sent his servants to the vinedressers, that they might receive its fruit. 35 And the vinedressers took his servants, beat one, killed one, and stoned another. 36 Again he sent other servants, more than the first, and they did likewise to them. 37 Then last of all he sent his son to them, saying, They will respect my son. 38 But when the vinedressers saw the son, they said among themselves, This is the heir. Come, let us kill him and seize his inheritance. 39 So they took him and cast him out of the vineyard and killed him. 40 Therefore, when the owner of the vineyard comes, what will he do to those vinedressers? 41 They said to Him, He will destroy those wicked men miserably, and lease his vineyard to other vinedressers who will render to him the fruits in their seasons. 42 Jesus said to them, Have you never read in the Scriptures: The stone which the builders rejected. Has become the chief cornerstone. This was the LORD s doing, And it is marvelous in our eyes? GLORY TO THEE O LORD, GLORY TO THEE!
