Maybe Mass Should Have Halftime I want to call your attention to what I think is a loss of reverence for and understanding of the Mass. Over a number of months, I have noticed people entering and leaving Mass as if at a football game. That is, as if the Scripture readings including the Psalm and the homily are not very important. At one Mass as I raised the Host during the consecration, a man ambled down the aisle to a front seat like nothing was going on. Not only is it irreverent, it is very distracting to readers, cantors, the priest and everyone in the church. One cannot always choose when to leave for the restroom, but it is a choice when to return. There are pauses or breaks between parts of the Mass to return or not to return. Here are some appropriate places for both: During the opening hymn Between the Scripture readings when the reader/ cantor is moving to or from the ambo Not during the Scripture readings including the Psalm or the homily During the Creed and the Intercessions Not during the Eucharistic Prayer when everyone is kneeling Definitely not during the consecration when the Host or chalice are raised During the Lord's Prayer During Communion Not right after Communion when all are sitting/ kneeling for quiet prayer Two weeks ago, one of our readers courteously waited to begin the Scripture reading until several latecomers were seated. Please pay attention to what is going at Mass. The most important thing at that moment may not be you finding your seat. Let us pray. Confirmation The sacrament of Confirmation will be held in our parish on Sunday, May 27 th, at our regularly scheduled 5:30 Mass. The attendance at Confirmation usually fills the church. You are encouraged to attend one of our other scheduled Masses.

They graciously opened their home to us, prepared a homemade lasagna dinner and projected a movie to an outdoor screen under the stars. The teens/tweens, and parents had a wonderful time enjoying this beautiful night of fellowship and fun! PARISHIONER SENIOR LUNCH The Senior Luncheon is open to all Seniors of Sacred Heart Catholic Church to encourage fellowship and camaraderie among registered parishioners while enjoying a lunch. Parish Outreach Ministry Today is Dollar Sunday! Please honor our Blessed Mother Mary this month by stepping up to the Outreach Ministry Box located in the Narthex to the left of the exit doors. Every dollar counts. Thank you for your contribution! MOTHER S DAY CARDS The blessed mother said Yes when she was asked to bear a child Jesus. We will be offering Mother s Day cards through this weekend, May 5 th /6 th. A donation of $5.00 is requested. Your loved ones, living or deceased will receive special prayers at all Masses on Mothers Day, and all proceeds will be used to fund pro-life activities in the Diocese. A Monday, May 7 th - The Spirit Gives Witness We are witnesses of these things, as is the Holy Spirit that God has given to those who obey him - Acts 5:32 Knights of Columbus Scholarship Award The Knights of Columbus will be sponsoring a $1,000 scholarship to a 2018 graduating senior to attend a college or a trade school of their choice. To be eligible, the student must reside in Clay County and be a relative of a member of Sacred Heart Parish. Applications must be turned in at the Parish Office by the deadline of May 15 th. The Holy Spirit gives witness to Jesus. We are not able to fully understand who Jesus is on our own strength, intellect, and power. The Holy Spirit aids us in moving from our limited intellectual perception of who Christ is and what he has done for us to a life-changing understanding of Christ. It is also the Holy Spirit that inspires us to give witness to Christ by our words and actions. This segment will look at how we are best able to cooperate with the Holy Spirit so that we may see Jesus as he is and give witness to him. Evangelization is never possible without the Holy Spirit... Marriage Preparation Marriage Preparation: To schedule a wedding, an engaged couple must meet with their parish priest or deacon at least eight months before their proposed wedding date. Preparation for the sacrament includes attending a diocesan program such as Engaged Encounter or Pre Cana. Also, couples of child-bearing age will need to take a full course of Natural Family Planning. Pre-registration for each of these programs is mandatory. The next Engaged Encounter program will be June 22 nd -24 th at Marywood Retreat Center. The next Pre Cana program will be June 2 nd in Jacksonville. EWTN Airs Documentary on the Florida Martyrs on June 6, at 10:00 pm, famed "Miracle Hunter" Michael O'Neill's original EWTN series They Might Be Saints will air a special one-hour episode on the courageous and heroic witnesses who gave their lives for the Catholic faith during the Spanish missionary period. The cause for the Martyrs of la Florida was formally opened on October 12, 2015, in Tallahassee and is currently being prepared for submission to the Congregation for the Causes of Saints in Rome KNIGHTS CAFÉ THEY MIGHT BE SAINTS This episode of They Might Be Saints was filmed on location at various sites in Florida and includes interviews with expert witnesses including Bishop Estévez. Before the episode s debut on June 6, Father Mitch Pacwa will have as his guests on EWTN Live at 8:00 p.m. Father Len Plazewski, vice-postulator for the Florida Martyrs cause and Heather Jordan, who serves on the Board of the Martyrs of La Florida Missions, Inc.
