3 March 25, Palm Sunday of the Passion of the Lord St. Matthew Church Lighten Up Experience the Power of Forgiveness this Easter RECONCILIATION MONDAY Confessions in the Church March 26, 3pm-9pm Confessions available in English & Spanish Go to Confession, return to Christ, and prepare for Holy Week and Easter in the best possible way. Bishop Frank Bless me, Father, for I have sinned. It has been days/weeks/months/years since my last confession, and these are my sins. Listen to the priest and the counsel that he gives you and the penance he instructs you to do. He will then ask you to recite the Act of Contrition, which can be found on the bottom of this page. The priest will absolve you of your sins and you may then go and do the penance that the priest gave you. Examination of Conscience Did I doubt or deny that God exists? Did I love God with my whole heart? Did I give time to God each day in prayer? Did I curse, or break an oath or vow? Did I lie? Did I commit perjury? Did I waste time at work, school, or at home? Did I deliberately deceive others, or injure others by lies? Did I gossip or reveal others faults or sins? Did I show reverence in the presence of Jesus in the Most Blessed Sacrament? Did I miss Mass Sunday or a Holy Day of Obligation through my own fault? Did I neglect my duties to my husband, wife, children or parents? Did I neglect to give good religious example to my family? Did I get angry, impatient, envious, unkind, proud, vengeful, jealous, hateful toward another? Did I give bad example by drug abuse, drinking alcohol to excess, fighting, quarreling? Did I try to control my thoughts? Did I steal, cheat, help to encourage others to steal or keep stolen goods? Have I made restitution for stolen goods? The Act of Contrition O my God, I am heartily sorry for having offended you. I detest all my sins because of your just punishments. But most of all because they offend you, my God, who are all good and deserving of all my love. I firmly resolve, with the help of your grace to sin no more and to avoid the near occasions of sin. Amen. My Dear Friends, Today begins the greatest week of the year for Christians. We believe. We belong. We journey together, with the disciples of Jesus this week: from grief, despair and confusion to faith, hope and inexpressible joy. We often make this journey in our own lives. It is my hope that when we participate with our Parish Family during the magnificent richness of Holy Week and Easter, the journey will enrich our understanding of the great truth of God s true love for us, and bring us profound peace and joy. In His Love, Msgr. Walter ON THE NIGHT HE WAS BETRAYED At every single Mass, we hear the words "On the night he was betrayed." That night was Holy Thursday, a pivotal day in the life of Jesus and one of the most important nights in all of history. Take a look at what occurred on that single night... Jesus Held the First Mass. Jesus Instituted the Priesthood. Jesus washed the Apostles feet. Jesus gave the new commandment: that you love one another as I have loved you. Jesus indicated that Peter had a special pastoral role among the apostles. Jesus prayed for the unity of his followers. Jesus prayed in the Garden of Gethsemane. Jesus was denied by Peter. Jesus was betrayed by Judas. Jesus was taken to Pilate. National Catholic Register
