3 Page Three St Paul s Church, Webster, New York April 5, 2015 Last night, at our celebration of Easter Vigil, we welcomed our Elect into full communion with the Catholic Church. Gina McNamara and Aaron Myers were baptized, confirmed, and received our Lord in Eucharist for the first time; George Slack, who was baptized as an infant, received the sacraments of Confirmation and First Eucharist. What a wonderful way to celebrate Jesus resurrection! All three Elect have been born into new life in the church, and we welcome them with great joy into our community. Gina, Aaron and George spent many long months arriving at this moment in their spiritual journeys, and even longer years before that, discerning God s call to conversion. The RCIA team has had a wonderful time sharing their stories, guiding them through the process of learning what it is to be a Catholic Christian, and listening with them to the witness of the many speakers we invite to give more in-depth presentations on a variety of subjects. We ve learned from their insights and been moved by the sincere fervor of their faith. The excitement with which they anticipated receiving the sacraments of initiation at the Easter Vigil was contagious! They ve completed their period of formation and are now neophytes, eager to serve their community and learn even more about their faith. If you know Gina, Aaron, or George, or recognize any of them from the rites we celebrated over the course of the winter, please congratulate them and welcome them into St. Paul s family. If you don t know any of them, you can always ask someone on staff to point them out to you. George attends 9 AM mass, and Gina and Aaron are usually at 11 AM mass. I know they would be happy to receive your felicitations! May the Easter joy that infused them last night also be yours throughout this holy season!

5 From the John Walsh Library... Have you read. Finamore, Frank, ed. The Story of Easter This slim volume celebrates the traditions of the Easter season through selections from the New Testament, stories, activities, poems, and even classic Easter recipes. Although it may be impossible to prove with undeniable evidence who Jesus really was, his crucifixion and resurrection are taken as fact by hundreds of millions of people today. The resurrection is joyously celebrated each Easter, the holiest Christian holiday. The miracle it celebrates is essentially the redemption of mankind. God s only son sacrificed himself for our sake. His suffering, humiliation, and painful death were real, but Christ defeated death. What Jesus gave the world was hope and the possibility of eternal life, not bounded by this world. That is why his words and life continue to move us. Pluck the harp and breathe the horn: Know ye not tis Easter morn? Gerard Manley Hopkins. (Call No. 232-FIN) Easter Offerings During the Easter season, it is encouraging to see both new and familiar faces at our worship services. Throughout the year, many of you already support the congregation with your time, talent and financial contributions but greater participation is always welcome! We encourage you to look into our electronic giving program. It takes just a few minutes to set up a recurring giving plan. Visit our website ( and click the red Donate Now button or complete a paper authorization form and return to the office (the link to print this form is below the Donate Now button). Any questions, please contact Robin at rmartz@dor.org or ext 30. Thank you! For the Children St Paul s Church, Webster, New York Tudor, Tasha A Tale for Easter Tasha Tudor tells the story of her own childhood anticipation of Easter.
