2 Pentecost May 19, 2013 Notes from the Pastor: How wonderful it was in celebrating FIRST COMMUNION SUNDAY with twenty three young people. What a blessing it was in celebrating with them. I wish to express my personal thanks first, to you parents for your dedication in catechizing your child within the Roman Catholic Faith and taking this duty seriously. Secondly, I wish to thank Lisa Conner and Peggy Blankenship for their willingness to be of service as "teachers of the Faith" who re-enforce that which the parents of these children have already bee instructed! As always, our Liturgy went smoothly with the help of our Adult Servers, Choir, Ministers of the Eucharist /Ministers of the Word. Again, many thanks for all those who worked behind the scenes as well. This weekend we celebrate the "End of the Liturgical Season of EASTER" with the great feast of PENTECOST SUNDAY! It is my prayer that this is just the beginning of the HOLY SPIRIT working powerfully in each of your lives. Pray daily for the gifts of the Holy Spirit: Wisdom, Understanding, Wonder and Awe/Fear of the Lord, Counsel, Knowledge, Fortitude and Reverence/Piety. This weekend the Easter Candle will be moved from being next to the Ambo back to the Gathering Space next to the Baptismal Font. It now, will only be lit at Funerals and Baptisms; however, we are always reminded that the "light of Christ" always dispels any darkness we may face. It is interesting that this upcoming week, there are many celebrations that are being had: May 23: I celebrate, believe it or not, my 15th year as a Priest of the Diocese of Lexington; Ordained on May 23, 1998, 10:00 a.m. at the Cathedral of Christ the King in Lexington by the Most Reverend J. Kendrick Williams. May 24th, Bishop Gainer's mother, Anna Krolick, will celebrate her 90th Birthday, and I ask for continued prayers of good health, happiness and peace for her. Then on May 25th, Bishop Kendrick Williams, Bishop Emeritus of our Diocese will mark his 50th Anniversary of being a Priest. WOW!!!! Lots of celebrating. I have decided that I will be taking a week off to make a pilgrimage in Thanksgiving for the 15 years of Ordained Ministry. I am not so sure where I am going. I was thinking of traveling to Rome or another possibility was to travel to an area I had never been before like Alaska or Canada. I will just continue to look at all the possibilities. Wherever I do end up, I will bring you with me in heart, mind and soul and continue as I do daily, my prayers for you all. This past week all of the Priests of the Diocese of Lexington gathered at St. Meinrad's Archabbey in Meinrad, Indiana. We gather at what we call our "annual Convocation" once a year. It is a time for advance learning but also major "down time". It allows us to connect with one another, as brother priest's whom we don't always have the opportunity to see. It gives us a chance to be "quiet", "reflect" and of course, pray. It is also a time of surprises as the Bishop, usually, not always, notified each of us of future assignments. We shall see what is in store for our Diocese as we enter this new time of renewal and God's Grace. As of today, my mother seems to be doing well. She will be heading to the Neurologist this upcoming Monday to hear the results of her tests and then on Friday, for the results of some blood work from her Internist. I know that my mother wanted me to express her thanks to each of you for your prayers for her and she continues to pray for you all daily. As usual, let me remind you that I am available to you in my office, via at fatherjim.sichko@saintmarkcatholicchurch.net or, in cases of an emergency (i.e. death or imminent need of the Sacraments), by phone at , prompt 3. See you in Church, Fr. Jim
