2 Last week our readings urged us to cast off sin and to pursue holiness eagerly. God s grace helps us do this and prepares us for limitless, everlasting glory. Today s readings confirm the great joy of this endeavor and provide specific advice on how to proceed: by becoming poor. The prophet Isaiah describes the savior who comes to bring glad tidings to the poor. We are the poor people in need of glad tidings. Following the example of John the Baptist, we acknowledge that we are poor; we are not worthy of the Lord s attention. Even so, Jesus delights in caring for us. Recognizing how poor we are, and yet how great is God s love for us, we can only rejoice always, as Saint Paul advises. We continue our Advent journey, becoming poor by emptying our hearts of sin and giving thanks to God for helping us grow in holiness. THE EYE OF THE BEHOLDER Children who are poor make toys out of the unlikeliest things: milk cartons, nails, bottle caps, sticks, plastic bags, corn cobs, clothespins. Folks who have plenty consider these things trash in fact, some poor children literally make their toys out of trash. Their abject need gives them a different perspective, seeing blessing where the rich see only waste. Material poverty is a scourge on our planet, and we must never make excuses for it. We must work tirelessly for decent conditions for every human person. As we work, we can learn from the special perspective of our brothers and sisters who do not have enough to live. We can see how depending on others for resources can transform a rich person s trash into a poor child s treasure. SPIRITUAL POVERTY On this Rejoice! Sunday in Advent, we can pray in a particular way for an end to material poverty. Today s readings assure us that the kind of poverty God desires for us is spiritual poverty, a radical knowledge that all things come from God. Where material poverty can wound the human spirit, spiritual poverty cultivates boundless joy. John the Baptist provides a startling model for us. In all sincerity, he admits that he is not worthy to touch Jesus sandals. John says this not to charm the crowds by being coy and self-deprecating. No, John embraces the truth that God is the source of all goodness. We are utterly dependent on God for all good things. We cannot do anything to earn God s favor; God simply provides for us because we need God. This is massively good news! No one could possibly care for us like God does. At our very best, we merely reflect God s brightness into the world. God s brilliant joy is exactly what we are called to. 4 Mass Intentions Ý lễ trong tuần Intenciones para las Misas CATECHISM / EDUCATION CORNER Duc in Altum Reliving our love of the Holy Mass continuation on the Introductory Rites of the Holy Mass Sign of the Cross At the conclusion of the gathering or entrance song, everyone makes the sign of the cross with the priest saying the words of the Trinitarian formula alone, and all the faithful answer, Amen. Remember, the cross itself is a sign of redemption in and through Jesus Christ. When we make this sign of the cross, in any form, it s an outward act to profess our inward faith in the Trinity. This sign declares that, through our baptism, we belong to God. It also reminds us that in this signing of the cross that we first received in our baptism, we recall the common priesthood we share in Christ. The words In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, are said as the fingers of the right hand touch the forehead, move to the sternum or breastbone, and then cross from the left to right shoulder of the believer seeking God s blessing or initiating an experience of personal or communal prayer. The descent of the right hand suggests the incarnational descent of the Second Person of the Trinity; the crossover from left shoulder to right suggests the movement of the Holy Trinity in our world. The signing of the cross at the beginning of the Holy Mass needs not to be done hastily, but be more deliberate and conscientiously done to manifest our profound faith in the saving act of the Holy Trinity. 5 St. Felicitas Parish Hispanic-Speaking Community Duc en altum Reviviendo nuestro amor por la Santa Misa....continuación en los ritos introbuctorios de la Santa Misa Señal de la Cruz Al final del canto de congregación o entrada, junto con el sacerdote, todos hacen la señal de la cruz, mientras el sacerdote dice la formula Trinitaria y todos los fieles responden: Amen! Recuerde que la cruz en sí misma y por medio de Jesucristo, es un signo de redensión. Cuando en cualquier circunstancia hacemos la señal de la cruz es un acto externo de nuestra fe interna en la Santísima Trinidad. Este signo manifiesta que a través bautismo, pertenecemos a Dios. También nos recuerda la primera vez cuando en nuestro bautismo nos signaron con la cruz y participamos del sacerdocio común que compartimos en Cristo. Las palabras En el nombre del Padre, y del Hijo, y del Espiritu Santo, se pronuncian cuando al mismo tiempo los dedos de la mano derecha tocan la frente, después se mueven hasta el esternón o el pecho y luego se cruzan desde el hombro izquierdo hacia el homro derecho, cuando la persona desea la bendición de Dios, para iniciar un acto de oración personal o también cuando se participa de un acto de oración comunitaria. El descenso de la mano derecha, desde la frente hasta el pecho, evoca el descenso encarnado de la Segunda Persona de la Trinidad; el movimiento del hombro izquierdo hacia el hombro derecho, evoca la presencia de la Santísima Trinidad en nuestro mundo. La señal de la cruz al inicio de la Santa Misa no es necesario que se haga precipitadamente, antes bíen ha de hacerse de una manera conscience y meditada para manifestar nuestra profunda fe en el acto redentor de la Santísima Trinidad..continuará Querida Comunidad, El Lunes 18 de Diciembre, nuestra parroquia nuevamente nos ofrece en este Tiempo de Adviento, la bendecida oportunidad de acercarnos al Sacramento de la Reconciliación y tener la gran alegría Cristiana de acercarnos al Banquete Eucarístico. Domingo 24 es cuarto Domingo de Adviento y el 25 es Navidad. Por lo tanto ambos días son diferentes y debemos attender a una misa para cada día. También les recordamos que este 17 de Diciembre, tendremos la celebración de las Posadas. Por favor no olviden que sus niños y niñas traigan cascabeles o sonajas para que participen con alegría en este espíritu de Adviento y Navidad. Posadas durante la misa y piñatas después de misa. Todos son bienvenidos! ALÉGRATE! Isaías realmente nos proclama una buena nueva! La venida del Señor no trae tristeza, culpa, miedo, ira ni condena. No, la venida del Señor es fuente de júbilo y consuelo. No basta con decirlo una vez, las lecturas de hoy están llenas de júbilo. El Magníficat de María reemplaza a nuestro salmo hoy y nuestra segunda lectura nos anima a alegrarnos, dar gracia y rendir alabanza. Éste es el significado principal de la palabra griega para eucaristía. Se nos insta a alegrarnos y dar gracias, porque la venida del Señor trae júbilo, curación, libertad, perdón y vindicación. Tại sao gọi là Mùa Vọng? - Mùa Vọng dịch từ tiếng La tinh "Adventus", có nghĩa là "đến". Vọng là mong đợi, mong chờ điều sắp đến. 2. Mùa Vọng có mấy nghĩa? - Có 4 nghĩa: 1/ Mùa Vọng nhớ lại thời gian dân Do thái mong đợi Đấng Messia (Chúa Kitô) đến để "giải phóng" dân Israel khỏi ách tội lỗi. Ngài "đã đến" lần thứ nhất cách đây hơn 2 ngàn năm. Ngài đã giải phóng họ khỏi ách tội lỗi bằng giáo lý và cái chết của Ngài. 2/ Mùa Vọng còn có ý nghĩa chuẩn bị đón Chúa Kitô "sẽ đến" lần thứ hai vào ngày tận thế. Không ai biết được ngày giờ nào. 3/ Ngày nay, mùa Vọng để dọn lòng mừng kỷ niệm Lễ Chúa Giáng sinh vào ngày 25 tháng 12. 4/ Mỗi người cần "tỉnh thức, sẵn sàng" đón Chúa đến vào ngày tận thế đời mình (giờ chết), để Chúa đưa mình về Nước Chúa muôn đời. 3. Thời gian Mùa Vọng dài bao lâu? - Giáo hội ấn định mùa Vọng dài 4 tuần lễ trước lễ Giáng Sinh để nhớ thời gian dân Do thái, sau khi được đưa ra khỏi đất nô lệ Ai cập đã đi lang thang trong sa mạc 40 năm trước khi được vào đất hứa. 4. Nghi lễ Mùa Vọng có gì khác? 4.1. Bàn thờ, giảng đài, phủ khăn màu tím lạt có ý gì? - Mầu tím lạt, nhắc nhớ giáo dân ăn năn sám hối tội lỗi Vòng hoa 4 cây nến, tượng trưng cho điều gì? - 4 cây nến tượng trưng cho tuần trước lễ Chúa Giáng sinh, mỗi tuần đốt thêm một cây. Ba cây màu tím tượng trưng cho sám hối và một cây màu hồng dùng cho Chúa nhật thứ 3, nói lên niềm vui như Thánh Phaolô kêu gọi: Hãy vui lên... vì Chúa đang đến! Vòng hoa mùa vọng với cành lá xanh tượng trưng cho sự sống muôn đời. Nến tượng trưng cho ánh sáng Chúa Kitô. Các vòng hoa mùa vọng trong gia đình cũng được làm phép. Phong tục này ngày nay đã lan truyền đến nhiều nơi trên thế giới. 5. Tinh thần Mùa Vọng là gì? - Là đáp lại lời kêu gọi của Gioan Tiền hô: Hãy dọn đường đón Chúa: Quanh co uốn cho ngay, gồ ghề san cho phẳng, hố sâu lấp cho đầy, nơi cao phải bạt xuống. 6. Cá nhân tham gia Mùa Vọng nên làm gì? - Nên làm "hang đá tâm hồn" cho Chúa Hài Đồng theo tinh thần 3 của lễ của 3 nhà đạo sĩ mang tới dâng Chúa: vàng (mến Chúa yêu người), nhũ hương (cầu nguyện), mộc dược (hy sinh hãm mình). - Tham gia tĩnh tâm, xưng tội do giáo xứ tổ chức. - Không nên quá chú trọng vào các gói quà (gift), thiệp mừng, các sản phẩm thương mại, máng cỏ lập lòe đèn điện, các cuộc vui trần tục mà quên đi TÌNH THƯƠNG BAO LA của Ngôi Hai giáng trần chuộc tội muôn dân.
