In the Gospel reading, the Roman empire isn t big enough, either. The great powers of Rome are named and made to stand waiting for the arrival of God s salvation. And we find Paul meditating joyfully on what really matters. According to Baruch, the city of Jerusalem is like a person standing on tiptoe looking for God s salvation, which is coming from the east. Those who were led away on foot, heads down, now come back, a proud people. Why, the very way is smoothed out. The path is lined with fragrant, lush trees. It can t get any better than this, can it? Nació en la región de Castilla en España, este doctor de la Iglesia junto con Teresa de Ávila fue reformador de la Orden Carmelita. Muchas órdenes religiosas del siglo XV sufrieron grandes decadencias. Por eso mientras los protestantes se separaban de la Iglesia, los religiosos descalzos, recoletos y observantes buscaban reformar órdenes religiosas, como la Orden de la Bienaventurada Virgen María del Monte Carmelo, uniéndose siempre más a la Iglesia romana. Para los reformadores católicos quedarse en la Iglesia no fue fácil, sin embargo se quedaron! Aunque sus reformas fueron apoyadas por los Papas, muchos de ellos como Juan de la Cruz tuvieron que aguantar muchas oposiciones y persecuciones para lograr sus reformas. Estas reformas ardían con el deseo de amar bien a Cristo Jesús y a su cuerpo que es la Iglesia. En sus poesías, Juan de la Cruz muestra la fuerza de esta llama de amor vivo a pesar de la oscuridad de la noche que no lo deja encontrar al amante (Dios). Trong bài đọc Phúc Âm, cả thế giới La Mã cũng không đủ chỗ. Sức mạnh quyền lực của thành La Mã được gọi đứng lên chờ đón ơn Cứu Chuộc của Thiên Chúa. Chúng ta cũng thấy thánh Phaolô vui mừng chiêm niệm sự kiện quan trọng này. Theo tiên tri Barúc, thành Giêrusalem giống như người nhón gót trông ngóng ơn Cứu Chuộc đến từ phương Đông. Dân tộc Do Thái bị dẫn bộ lưu đày giờ đây ngẩng đầu trở về. Đường về của họ rợp bóng cây và đầy hoa thơm. Còn gì hơn thế nữa không? Còn chứ! Có tiếng rao trong sa mạc. Đây là sự khởi đầu của ơn Cứu Chuộc. HỌC HỎI VỀ MÙA VỌNG Những màu phụng vụ nào được sử dụng trong mùa Vọng? Những ngày đặc biệt và những nghi thức cử hành nào đó có thể có những màu riêng (thí dụ, màu đỏ dành cho lễ kính các thánh tử đạo, màu đen hay trắng vào dịp lễ an táng), nhưng màu thông thường của Mùa Vọng là tím. Hướng dẫn Tổng quát trong sách lễ Roma đưa ra: Màu tím hay đỏ tía được sử dụng trong Mùa Vọng và Mùa Chay. Các màu này cũng có thể được mặc trong những nghi thức và Thánh lễ an táng (346). Ở nhiều nơi, có một ngoại lệ đáng chú ý cho Chúa Nhật thứ ba Mùa Vọng, được biết tới như là Chúa Nhật vui (Gaudete) : Màu h ng có th đ c s d ng trong ngày Chúa Nhật vui và Chúa Nhật thứ ba Mùa Chay (Laetare). (GIRM 346f). Phải chăng Mùa Vọng là mùa thống hối? Chúng ta thường nghĩ về Mùa Vọng như là mùa thống hối bởi vì màu tím trong phụng vụ, giống như màu của mùa Chay màu dành cho mùa sám hối. Tuy nhiên, sự thực là Mùa Vọng không phải là mùa thống hối. Thật ngạc nhiên! Theo điều khoảng của Giáo Luật: số 1250: những ngày và những lần sám hối trong Giáo Hội hoàn vũ là mọi thứ sáu trong cả năm và cả mùa Chay. Mặc dầu các đấng bản quyền địa phương có thể thiết lập thêm những ngày sám hối, song, trên đây đã là một danh sách đầy đủ của những ngày và những lần thống hối trong Giáo Hội Latinh cũng như toàn thể Giáo Hội, và Mùa Vọng không phải là một trong số đó. Mùa Vọng bắt đầu và kết thúc khi nào? Theo những quy luật tổng quát: Mùa Vọng bắt đầu với giờ Kinh Chiều I của Chúa Nhật ngày hoặc gần ngày 30/11 nhất; Mùa Vọng sẽ kết thúc vào trước giờ Kinh Chiều I của lễ Giáng Sinh (số 40). Chúa Nhật đúng vào hay gần với ngày nhất có thể trong khoảng , tùy theo năm. Trong trường hợp một Chúa Nhật, giờ Kinh Chiều I được xem như vào Kinh Chiều I trước đó (thứ 7). Theo hướng dẫn tổng quát của các giờ kinh phụng vụ: Được cử hành ngay trước Thánh lễ, giờ Kinh Chiều được gộp vào cùng một cách thức như Kinh Sáng. Giờ Kinh Chiều I của những lễ trọng, các Chúa Nhật hay lễ kính Chúa rơi vào ngày Chúa Nhật có thể không được cử hành cho tới sau Thánh lễ của ngày hôm trước hay thứ bảy. Điều này có nghĩa rằng, Mùa Vọng bắt đầu vào buổi chiều của thứ 7 giữa 26/11 2/12; kết thúc vào chiều ngày 24.12, lúc cử hành Kinh Chiều I lễ Giáng Sinh (25/12).
