2 From our Principal Term 1 Week 2 Newsletter Sunday morning, Fr Maurice commissioned the staff of St Patrick's School in their vocation as teachers and administration staff in Catholic Schools. In his homily, he spoke about the four faces of Jesus. Jesus the teacher Jesus the person of Compassion Jesus the person who honoured family Jesus a person of prayer Teaching in a Catholic school is our vocation, and we dedicate ourselves to the care and education of the children of St Patrick's, striving to teach by word and example, a deep faith in Jesus Christ and the power of his love. At St Patrick's every child matters. As educators, working in partnership with parents, we are responsible for the academic, physical, spiritual and emotional growth of each child. During week 1, all class teachers concentrated on teaching their students social skills from a Program called 'Friendly Schools Plus'. Social skills are the skills we use everyday to interact and communicate with others. They include verbal and non-verbal communication, such as speech, gesture, facial expression and body language. Social skills help students to build friendships with others which is an important part of their social and emotional development. Children who have friends are more likely to be self confident and perform better academically. On Friday, buddy classes met to share some of this learning and the whole school ate their lunch together on the school oval. On Tuesday 20 th February, we will be having a 'Meet the Teacher Evening'. I ask that you put this important date in your diary. It will be an opportunity to meet your child's teacher and hear about the Teaching and Learning Program for your child. Prior to the Meeting starting, there will be a sausage sizzle as a way of getting to meet other parents in the school community. A letter will go home soon explaining the structure of the evening. I would like to extend a warm welcome to all the new children who started at St Patrick's this year and their families. 3 From our aprim The Year of Youth The Australian Bishops have identified the liturgical year of 2018, beginning on the first Sunday of Advent (3rd December 2017), as a national Year of Youth. The Year of Youth acknowledges the Holy Spirit at work in the lives of young people, and invites communities to celebrate young people acting upon the Holy Spirit in the life of the Church. It calls for discussion and active engagement focused on the reconnection and renewal of young people in the Church. St Patrick s School will explore and nurture this theme throughout the year as we recognise the many gifts our students have to offer in leading with compassion. Parish Family Mass On the second Sunday of each month, St Patrick s Church celebrates a Family Mass, which provides an opportunity for our younger parishioners to play an active role while celebrating the Eucharist; it is also an excellent opportunity for our families to strengthen the parish/school connection by being involved. This coming Sunday, 11 th February, we hope to include some of our students in the Offertory Procession and possibly reading the Universal Prayers. We particularly encourage the students preparing to receive the Sacraments of Reconciliation, Confirmation and First Eucharist this year, and those who have received them in the past, to come along and be involved. Please join us at Mass at 8.30am this Sunday. Sacrament of Reconciliation and Confession during Lent Students in this year s program will receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation at St Patrick s Church on Thursday 15 th March at 7pm. If you did not choose a time or church for your child at the Sacramental Preparation Meeting yesterday, please contact me on and we will record a time. Fr Maurice and Fr Long Hai are also offering Confession during Lent for the students, and their parents if they wish to be involved, who have received the sacrament in earlier years on Wednesday 7 th March at 9.45 in St Patrick s Church. I will send more information home about this in the coming weeks. Ash Wednesday Mass will be at 9am next Wednesday for parishioners and students from Years 3/4-7. A Liturgy of the Word will be held for students from R-2/3 at 1.30 in St Patrick s Church. Ash Wednesday marks the beginning of Lent. Have a lovely week. Come along and enjoy this multicultural festival to celebrate the traditional Lunar New Year, which is the major festival for most of South East Asian countries. From our finance officer School Fees 2018 A friendly reminder to those families who do not have a direct debit set up the composite fee is due and payable the first week of school. Term 1 Tuition fees are also due and payable by the end of Term 1. I will be forwarding all statements to families by the end of this week so please look in your child s school bag for your statement. We offer direct debit, BPay, EFTPOS and also direct deductions from Centrelink payments to cater to the changing financial needs of our families at St Patrick s School. When the direct debit payment option is selected your school fee payment is calculated over the full school year right up until the 31 st of January This means smaller payments are required making this method the most affordable way to budget for this commitment. Please come into the office or ring me on if one of these options would better suit your financial requirements. The School Card 2018 form is now available from the front office. This year the income level has been increased from $37000 to approximately $58000 please come and see me in the office to complete this form if your combined family income is below this level. School Card must be applied for each year. If at any time you are having trouble meeting your school fee commitment, or have any queries, please contact me on to discuss this matter. 4 St. Patrick s School Newsletter Thursday 2018 Term 1 Week 2 Lá thư Hiệu Trưởng Sáng Chúa Nhật Cha Maurice đã dâng Thánh Lễ cho các Nhân viên để uỷ thác nhiệm vụ giáo viên cũng như các nhân viên của trường. Trong bài giảng ngài nói vễ 4 bộ mặt của Chúa Giêsu Chúa Giêsu là Thày Chúa Giêsu là đấng giầu lòng thương xót Chúa Giêsu là đấng làm rạng danh gia đình Chúa Giêsu là đấng cầu nguyện Dạy học ở trường Công giáo là thiên chức của chúng ta, và chúng ta đã tự cống hiến để chăm sóc và giáo dục học sinh ở Trường St Patrick, ước muốn dạy các em tin tưởng vào Chúa Giêsu và sức mạnh tình yêu của Ngài. Ở Trường St Patrick mỗi học sinh đều rất đáng trọng. Là những nhà giáo dục chúng tôi làm việc với các phụ huynh, chúng tôi có trách nhiệm về sự tăng trưởng trong học tập, thể xác, tinh thần và cảm xúc của từng em. Trong tuần Thứ Nhất tất cả các giáo viên tập trung dạy các em kỹ năng giao tế trong chương trình Friendly School Plus Kỹ năng giao tế là kỹ năng chúng ta sử dụng hàng ngày để giao tế với mọi người. Kỹ năng này bao gồm cách giao tế bằng lời nói vả cử chỉ, thí dụ như thuyết trình, cử điệu, diễn tả bằng khuôn mặt hay cử điệu. Kỹ năng giao tế giúp các em xây dựng tình bạn với người khác đó là phần rất quan trọng trong việc phát triển giao tế và cảm xúc của các em. Học sinh có bạn thường tự tin và học khá hơn.. Vào Thứ Sáu các lớp bảo trợ gặp nhau và chia sẻ việc học tập này và học sinh toàn trường sẽ ăn trưa tại sân thể thao. Vào ngày Thứ Ba 20 Tháng Hai sẽ là buổi gặp gỡ giáo viên. Tôi yêu cầu quý vị ghi ngày này trong sổ tay. Đây là cơ hội gặp giáo viên lớp con của quý vị và quý vị sẽ được nghe về chương trình giảng dạy cho các em. Trước khi buổi họp bắt đầu chúng tôi sẽ đãi sausage sizzle để quý vị có thể gặp những phụ huynh khác trong cộng đồng. Chúng tôi sẽ gửi thư về nhà để giải thích rõ hơn về buổi tối này.

5 Năm giới trẻ Các Đức Giám Mục Úc đã cho biết trong phụng vụ năm 2018, bắt đầu vào Chúa Nhật Thứ Nhất Mùa Vọng (3 Tháng Mười Hai 2017) là năm Giới trẻ. Năm giới trẻ được công nhận là năm Chúa Thánh Thần tác động trên đời sống của các người trẻ và mời gọi mọi người hãy cùng nhau chia sẻ năm này. Thánh Lễ gia đình Vào Chúa Nhật thứ hai mỗi tháng, Nhà Thờ St Patrick mừng Thánh Lễ Gia đình. Đây là cơ hội cho các em nhỏ tham gia vai trò trong Thánh Lễ. Đây cũng là cơ hội cho gia đình tạo nên tình liên đới giữa giáo xứ và học đường. Chúa Nhật tuần này 11 Tháng Hai chúng tôi hy vọng các em tham gia Dâng của Lễ hoặc đọc Lời nguyện. Chúng tôi khuyến khích các em chuẩn bị Nhận Bí tích Hoà Giải, Thêm Sức và Rước Lễ Lần đầu tham gia Thánh Lễ. Xin tham gia với chúng tôi trong Thánh Lễ Chúa Nhật lúc 8:30 sang Phép Bí tích Hoà Giải và Xưng tội trong Mùa Chay Học sinh trong chương trình sẽ nhận Phép Bí Tích Hòa Giải tại Nhà Thờ St Patrick vào Tối Thứ Năm 15 Tháng Ba lúc 7 giờ. Nếu quý vị chưa chọn giờ và Nhà Thờ cho con quý vị tại buổi họp hôm qua, Xin vui long liên lạc với tôi qua số và chúng tôi sẽ ghi vào giờ giấc cho con em quý vị. Cha Maurice và Cha Long Hải sẽ ngồi toà trong Mùa Chay cho các học sinh và Phụ huynh, nếu các em muốn xưng tội các em có thể lãnh nhận Phép Bí Tích sớm vào Thứ Tư 7 Tháng Ba lúc 9g45 tại Nhà Thờ St Patrick. Tôi sẽ gửi thêm thông tin về nhà trong những tuần sắp tới. Lễ tro sẽ vào sáng Thứ Tư tuần tới lúc 9am cho giáo dân và học sinh từ lớp 3-7 và Phụng vụ Lời Chúa cho các lớp R-2 lúc 1:30 tại Nhà thờ St Patrick. Thứ Tư Lễ tro bắt đầu Mùa Chay.
