4 Page Four Beloved of God, INTRODUCTIONS AND UPDATES And Jesus said, Do not let your hearts be troubled. You have faith in God; have faith also in Me. In My Father s house there are many dwelling places. If there were not, would I have told you that I am going to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back again and take you to Myself, so that where I am you also may be. Where I am going you know the way. Thomas said to Him, Master, we do not know where You are going; how can we know the way? Jesus said to him, I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me. (John 14:1-6) We must listen to the words of Our Blessed Lord when He said, Do not let your hearts be troubled. So much has happened during these last couple of months. Many of you were so kind in offering your services, prayers and concerns. As Saint Paul said, We give thanks to God always for all of you, remembering you in our prayers, unceasingly. (1Thessonlonians 1:2) I look forward to our growing together in the Spirit and cooperation. Parish Administrator On a number of occasions I introduced and referred to Ms Gina Mastrangelo as the Parish Administrator. Mistakenly, some have understood, referred to and commented to others that Ms Mastrangelo is my secretary. I don t have a secretary. The parish has a secretary, Ms Andrea Kane. With the shortage of priests being an ongoing problem, priests/pastors have had to take on more and more administrative responsibilities, at times to the detriment of their spiritual responsibilities. Many dioceses around the world have recognized that there are many spiritually gifted and administratively blessed lay people who can ease the burden of the priest by assuming those responsibilities. Our own archdiocese has recently begun a program to formally train individuals is this position. Ms Mastrangelo has been a Parish Administrator for three other parishes before coming to Saint Eugene, Saint Matthew, Hastings on Hudson, Saint Stanislaus Kostka, Hastings on Hudson, and Our Lady of Perpetual Help, Ardsley. In her position, she is responsible for all financial aspects of the parish (Budget, Audits, Banking), the Safe Environment Coordinator, Cardinal s Appeal, Project Planning and Fundraising, Overseeing Maintenance, Contract Negotiator, Liaison to Police & Fire Departments and principal contact for all regular parish business. Also, with 18 years as Sacramental Year Coordinator (First Holy Communion and Confirmation) for Saint Matthew Grade School, and 11 years as Religious Education Coordinator for Saint Matthew CCD Program, Ms Mastrangelo is the Coordinator of Saint Eugene s Religious Education Program. The Parish of Saint Eugene is blessed to have Ms Mastrangelo in these positions. New Music Director and Organist It is a pleasure to introduce Mr. Jerry Celestino as our new Music Director/Cantor and Mr. James Donaldson as our new Organist. They have been serving the people of God through the gifts the Almighty graced them with for a combined 70 years. As they are just beginning this weekend, I ask your patience with regards to choir and the like. We will be getting things up and running, but we will be moving gradually. For the Holy Masses that have music, one change that will take effect immediately is that there will now be an opening hymn instead of the recited or sung entrance antiphon. The Parish of Saint Eugene is blessed to have them as well. God love you Father Fernan
5 Page Five Dear Parishioners; Religious Education: Religious Education classes will begin this coming Wednesday, October 7th in the church. Father Fernan and I are looking forward to the new year ahead with all of our new students and catechists. I will be sending home emergency forms with all of the students on Wednesday. I ask that they be filled out and returned to me by Wednesday, October 14. Please fill out the entire form even though the information may have been filled out on your application. If you should have any questions, please feel free to contact either one of us at or at ginamastrangelo@csey.org or fatherfernan@csey.org This Sunday is Respect Life Sunday. Join us as we pray for all of the unborn. PRO-LIFE PRAYER O Mary, Mother of Jesus and Mother of us all, born and unborn, we turn to you today as the one who said "Yes" to Life. Despite your surprise and uncertainty as to how this could be, you accepted God's Will. Mary, we pray today for all mothers and fathers who may feel apprehensive and overwhelmed by their pregnancy. Intercede for them, that God may give them the grace to say yes and the Courage to go on. May they have the grace to reject the lie of abortion. May they say with you, "Be it done unto me according to Your Word." Help also the Pro-Life movement that all people will come to value human life as God's precious gift to be accepted and loved rather than a burden to be destroyed. Through your Intercession may your Son, Our Lord Jesus Christ, bring about His definitive triumph of life over death. Amen. Feast of Saint Francis, October 4: Lord, make me an instrument of your peace. Where there is hatred, let me sow love; where there is injury, pardon; where there is doubt, faith; where there is despair, hope; where there is darkness, light; and where there is sadness, joy. O Divine Master, grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled as to console; to be understood as to understand; to be loved as to love. For it is in giving that we receive; it is in pardoning that we pardoned; and it is in dying that we are born to eternal life. Amen Happy Feast Day in Heaven, Dad. Church Office Closed: Office will be closed on Monday, October 12 in observance of Columbus Day. May God Bless you always, Gina Mastrangelo, Parish Administrator
