Enjoy: All kinds of apple product booths, live musical performances all day, a rock climbing wall, an animal petting booth, a dog agility show, apple baking contest, scavenger hunt, pony rides, plus dozens of more activities. 3 MONDAY, September 12 Catholic Daughters to have important meeting at St. Mary s Academy, 6:30 p.m. All Catholic Daughters are asked to please be present. TUESSDAY, September 13 Pastoral Council meets Tuesday The Pastoral Council of Holy Trinity Parish will meet on Tuesday, September 13 th, 5:30 p.m., at St. Mary's Academy, Hudson. We ask all Council members and those interested in the work of the Council to please be present for this important meeting. WEDNESDAY, September 14 Prayer Shawl and Prayer Blanket Ministry People interested in participating in the Resurrection Prayer Shawl and Prayer Blanket Ministry are invited to gather at Father Gerken Parish Hall, Wednesday, September 14, at 6:00 p.m. It s an opportunity to do good work and enjoy good fellowship all at the same time. Please come. SUB NITE! Make sure your dining plans for Friday, September 23, 4:00-6:00 p.m., includes a stop at the Academy for a Sub prepared by the men of the Christian Service Committee. Subs will be $8.00 each. Proceeds will be used to support our youth activities. Sub items will include meatballs, pepperoni, sausages, peppers, and onions. Gerken Hall - Germantown We ask that registration forms be filled out in advance, if possible. It helps create a smooth beginning. But we will always accept last minute enrollments at the door. Each fall we have an annual Blessing of the Animals. This year the blessing will take place in the parking area between Resurrection Church and Father Gerken Hall in Germantown. So, on Saturday, September 24th, at 10:00 a.m., bring your pets to us; and we will gladly share a blessing with them in the spirit of St. Francis.

4 Guest priests next two weekends On Sunday, September 18 th, Father Bath will be flying out to Yosemite National Park in California for a week. Next Saturday he has a wedding in Germantown, and Msgr. Charles Coen will hear Confessions and offer the Saturday Vigil Mass in Hudson. On Sunday. Sept. 18 th and the following weekend Father Matthew Frisoni will offer all the Masses in the parish. Our ever-ready parish staff will be available to facilitate any special calls for ministry and service. Sacrament of Confession/Reconciliation Some parishioners think about going to confession, but feel most comfortable about confessing to priest they may never see again. They will have the opportunity to do so the next two weekends; so we encourage folks to take advantage of it. No evening confessions while Fr. Bath is away. Baby Bottle Coin Drive Labor Day Weekend marks the time to start returning the baby bottles holding your loose change, which will be given to the Alight Center. Now s a good time to make an extra effort to get the loose change in the bottle. Your bottles can be left in the Church vestibules. We will collect them and pass them along to the Alight Center. Diocesan Marriage Jubilee The 44 th Annual Marriage Jubilee Celebration sponsored by the Office of Lay Ministry Formation will be held Sunday, October 2 nd, 2016 at 2:00 PM at The Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, corner of Eagle St. and Madison Ave., Albany, New York. Couples celebrating their 25 th, 40 th, 50 th or other special wedding anniversaries are invited to attend this celebration. Bishop Edward B. Scharfenberger will celebrate the Liturgy at 2:00 PM and greet couples and their guests at a reception in the gathering area at the Cathedral immediately following Mass. Presently we are seeking new members to sing at the 9:00 a.m. Mass on Sundays, mid-september to mid-june. If you can carry a tune, we really need your help. Please give this ministry some serious thought. Rehearsals are after Mass, thereby eliminating any extra trips during the week. The more singers we have participating, the more leeway we have to insure free weekends for those who need to be away, but still allowing for a goodly number to sing at Mass. If you have any questions or concerns, please see me after Mass, or give me a call at or feel free to speak with any choir member. Blessings, joy, and fulfillment are guaranteed! Reflections on today s Scriptures Twenty-fourth Sunday in Ordinary Time The Pharisees and scribes began to complain, saying, This man welcomes sinners and eats with them. Jesus knew these self-righteous religious leaders were complaining. And he knew they needed to learn a lesson. So, in addition to giving a lived example of welcoming the company of tax collectors and sinners, Jesus also directly taught the skeptics about the importance of welcoming those who have been lost. Today s Gospel gives a powerhouse lineup of three parables that all teach a similar message: rejoice over the lost sheep, rejoice over the lost coin, and rejoice over the return of the lost son. The theme can be summarized in the simple directive: rejoice don t reject. When someone who isn't part of the fold appears in church, this is cause for rejoicing! It should not be cause for gossip, sideways glances, or nervous whispers about what to do or say. Rather a genuine smile and word of welcome would be in order at the very least, and a heartfelt invitation to join the community would be totally appropriate. Too often we become complacent about our Christian company. We get used to seeing the same people every Sunday and forget about the lost men and women who are outside the bounds of our comfort zone. Jesus gives us the image of an active shepherd who goes after the lost one until he finds it, and a diligent widow who will sweep the house, searching carefully until she finds her coin. He tells us of a father who ran to his son, embraced and kissed him, in spite of the separation they had faced. We too are called to take initiative in seeking out those who are lost, and to rejoice heartily when they finally do come back home. A parent s persistent love provides a glimpse of the unconditional love for each of us by God, Our Father. A parent is a window to the Divine.
