This feast was first celebrated after the Feast of Epiphany but was changed to the new position after Now, the feast is either on December 30th, or the first Sunday after Christmas unless Christmas is on a Sunday. This Holy Family of Nazareth is given to us as a model of family life. We know that every family has its origin in the heavenly family, the Holy Trinity. The picture above shows the two trinities The Holy Trinity of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit and the Holy Family of Jesus, Mary and Joseph. This picture or icon is my favorite one. Jesus grew up in a family that experienced joy, pain, and death. Jesus learned his prayers from his legal father Joseph. He went to the synagogue with St. Joseph and to the Jerusalem Temple with both his parents. He learned the trade of being a carpenter. Work is a noble thing for every human being. Jesus shows us the importance of using our talents. The Virgin Mary taught a lot about the Jewish traditions to Jesus. We too develop an identity by the interaction that we have in our families. We learn what thanksgiving is about or enjoying a baseball, or football game. Parents are the primary teachers of the faith. Faith is primarily caught than taught or monkey see monkey do. Let us pass the Christian values to the next generation with the same love and dedication that we received it from our parents. In our day and age, we may have challenges that can turn us from coming to Church or praying daily. God loves us so much that he gave us the gift of free will so that we can choose to be with God freely. Our intellect and our will enable us to be who we are sons and daughters of God. We share the same humanity and we are linked by the Holy Spirit. Continue to celebrate the Christmas season by visiting family and friends. May God s love abide in each one of us. Fr.
