Simon of Cascia There will be a gathering of Bishops from the world in Rome between Feb Pope Francis has put a special committee headed by Cardinal Blaise Cupich (side note he is originally from South Omaha, NE). The committee will include Cardinal Oswald Gracias of Mumbai (Bombay), India; Archbishop Charles Scicluna of Malta; and Jesuit Fr. Hans Zollner, president of the Centre for the Protection of Minors at the Pontifical Gregorian University and a member of the Pontifical Commission for the Protection of Minors. That same Commission headed by Boston Cardinal Sean O'Malley, and some survivors of abuse by members of the clergy will be involved in the preparatory work for the meeting. I invite you to pray and fast that the Holy Spirit may guide those who attend to find ways to handle this tragic situation. You may know people who were abused or you may be one of them. Keep the victims and the abusers in your prayers too. Remember the precepts of Jesus, forgive your enemies and pray for them. That is difficult but as Christians we are called to this standard. If you know someone who has been abused or is an abuser, you need to ask them to seek help. The abused can always have help from the diocese that they live in. I know that You will give me strength to forgive and I thank You for you love me more than I love myself and want my happiness more that I desire it for myself. Lord Jesus, I want to be free from the feelings of resentment, bitterness and unforgiveness toward You for the times I thought You sent death, hardships, and financial difficulties as punishment into our family. Lord, I forgive myself for my sins, faults and failings. Lord Jesus, I especially pray for the grace of forgiveness for that one person in life who has hurt me the most. I ask to forgive anyone who I consider my greatest enemy, the one who is the hardest to forgive or the one who I said I would never forgive. Today, February 10th is World Marriage Day February 11 World day of the sick (Our Lady of Lourdes, Patron Saint of bodily ills) February 11 is the feast day of Our Lady of Lourdes, one of the most famous apparitions of the Blessed Virgin Mary that took place in southern France. On this day in 1858 a young, poor girl named Bernadette Soubirous was out collecting firewood with her sister and another friend near a grotto when she saw a vision of a lovely lady. Four years after Our Lady of Lourdes appeared to St. Bernadette, the local bishop ruled that the apparitions were authentic. St. Bernadette eventually entered a religious house where she continued to suffer physically, uniting her suffering to Christ, and died at an early age. Today a beautiful church has been erected on the grounds near the grotto at Lourdes. After Rome and the Holy Land, Lourdes, France is the most popular place of pilgrimage for Catholic faithful. The water of Lourdes is readily available to all pilgrims, and numerous healings have been medically documented to have occurred there, as well as conversions to the faith because of these miracles. St. Bernadette s feast day is February 18th. -lady-of-lourdes/ Becoming Missionary Disciples In Pope Francis Exhortation, The Joy of the Gospel, he says we are all called to be Missionary Disciples. Not some, all of us are called. How can we take our faith outside the box? Invite someone to come with you to church throughout the year. Say a brief morning offering to God when you wake up. Visit family and friends regularly. Listen to what they have to say. Knights 6th Annual 5k Run / Walk is being held on Saturday, June 8th. Diocesan Missions to the Navajo Nation Are you being called? Imagine this: The morning sun is just rising over the mountains. The shadows are receding and revealing the beauty of the desert. You are walking to Mass in the parish church. The church is in the shape of a traditional Navajo hogan, an 8-sided structure. After Mass you will have a simple breakfast with the rest of the mission team before heading out to day s work site. Today you will be working at an elderly woman s home doing repairs. Tomorrow you may be reroofing another home or drywalling an addition to a home. Each day brings new opportunities to meet the people of the Navajo Nation. The Joliet Diocese Partnership in Missions announces the formation of a construction team to serve in Chinle, Arizona. The mission will leave on June 1st and return on June 14th, This will be a construction mission. We invite men and women who would like to assist local people in building projects for the poor. No special construction skills are necessary, just willing hands and a warm heart. Two information meetings will be held, the first, January 8th, 2019 from 7-9 pm and the second, January 16th, 2019 from 7-9 pm, at the Blanchette Catholic Center Weber Rd.
