Cherubim Testa of Avigliana The past two weekends we had the young people making a commitment. It can be defined as the act of binding oneself to a course of action. Commitment can be as simple as serving on a parish committee for three years or having more long term effects like being married to a person for the rest of my life. I was surprised by the reaction of the community when I asked a second time if they truly understood these commitments. I do not know how to interpret their reaction. The commitments are: 1. Faithfully attend weekend Mass. 2. Provide a good example to my peers in religious education class, in my home, and in my community by living the Catholic faith, including the frequent reception of the Sacraments-Reconciliation (Confession) and Eucharist. 3. Helping and encouraging my fellow classmates by participating fully in our parish religious education program. 4. Accepting my Catholic responsibility by praying at home with my family, by praying during moments when I need-or want to thank God, and encouraging my friends and family to pray together. The commitment for the children can be easily adapted to our own lives as adults. I hope that we do not think that these commitments cannot be followed or they are too hard. These commitments reflect what we are called to be as practicing Catholics. If we do not practice our faith it cannot grow. I know it is not easy to be a Catholic. As Catholics, we are invited each year to make a commitment to Christ during the Easter Vigil liturgy or on Easter Sunday. As Christians, we make a commitment or vows when we get married, or enter in the religious life, or the priesthood. Parents accept a commitment when they bring their child for Baptism. They accept the responsibility to raise that child in the Catholic faith and be a good role model. Living the commitment is not possible without a continued longing for God in our daily life through prayer. Is there a longing in our hearts this Advent season or are we too caught up with the parties and shopping that we lose focus of this season of Advent? We long for the second coming of Christ as the early Jews long for his first coming. God comes to us everyday. Do we miss God because we are analyzing the past or planning too far ahead in the future? Remember God is in the now that is why God is in the Present. God s love and blessing. Fr. Joseph Broudou OSA December 8th & 9th Weekly Contribution... $4, On-Line Giving... $ TOTAL... $ 5, Weekly need...$6, Thank you

The pink candle signifies joy. It is lit on the third Sunday of Advent, or Gaudete Sunday. In the ancient Church on Laetare Sunday in Lent, the Pope gave a citizen a pink rose. The tradition continued, as popes bestowed golden roses on Catholic rulers and now more commonly, on places of devotion. Following the papal rose custom, bishops and priests began wearing rose-colored vestments on Laetare Sunday. The Church brought the Lenten practice of rose vestments to Advent on Gaudete Sunday. As a result, the pink candle gained a place in the Advent wreath. Family Prayer Third Week of Advent (Joy) Dear Jesus, help us focus on you during this busy season. May we stay aware of the joy you bring into our lives. We want to find you in the everyday moments and come with hearts of gratitude to your manger on Christmas. Amen. (Dynamic Catholic)

These prayers are seven liturgical song, one for each day until Christmas Eve. December 17 O Wisdom, that proceedest from the mouth of the Most High, Reaching from end to end mightily, and sweetly disposing all things: come and teach us the way of prudence. December 18 O Lord and Ruler of the house of Israel, Who didst appear unto Moses in the burning bush, and gavest him the law on Sinai: come and redeem us by Thy outstretched arm. December 19 O Root of Jesse, Who standest as the Ensign of the people, before Whom kings shall not open their lips; to Whom the Gentiles shall pray: come and deliver us, tarry now no more. December 20 O Key of David, and Sceptre of the house of Israel; Who openest, and no man shutteth, Who shuttest, and no man openeth: come and lead the captive from the prison house, and him that sitteth in darkness and the shadow of death. December 21 O Dawn of the East, Splendor of the eternal Light, and Sun of justice: Come and enlighten them that sit in darkness, and the shadow of death. December 22 O King of the gentiles, yea, and the desire thereof, the Cornerstone that makest both one: come and save man, whom Thou hast made out of the slime of the earth. December 23 O Emmanuel, our King and Lawgiver, the expectation of all nations and their Salvation: come and save us, O Lord our God. God comes. What shall we do? God, indeed, is coming. Near at hand. At the door. Be busy! Be lovingly-kind, like God. Do mercy work. Being merciful does not require extraordinary behavior. It simply means, be human. That is, be holy. Prove that God is here by wrestling with conversion to Christ in ongoing ways be genuine, be just, be fair. The gospel offers some suggestions: clean out the closet, share from the pantry, do not take what others need. Do mercy. Be mercy. Here is a link: apost_exhortations/documents/papafrancesco_esortazione-ap_ _gaudete-etexsultate.html How will I be holy, be the saint next door? What mercy work will I do to share with those in need?
