Saint Augustine of Hippo Please pray for the reposed souls of John E. Miller and Robert J. Wolski who entered eternal life on September 10, May their souls and all the souls of our loved ones remain eternally glorified in Christ. SAINTS AND SPECIAL OBSERVANCES Sunday: Twenty-fourth Sunday in Ordinary Time; Catechetical Sunday Monday: St. Robert Bellarmine; Yom Kippur (Jewish day of atonement) begins at sunset Wednesday: St. Januarius; St. Alfonso De Orozco OSA Thursday: Ss. Andrew Kim Taegon and his Companions Friday: St. Matthew Saturday: Blessed Virgin Mary Change is not easy. I am sure it was a change for many when I came on board in September of Since then, we added a Saturday daily Mass, increased the time for confession from 15 minutes on Saturdays to 45 minutes on Saturday and Sunday, and also added confession on First Fridays. We started the Good Samaritans that care for the sick and homebound. They receive communion once a week and I visit them once a month and see if they want confession, and to be anointed. We send pray intentions for home bounds and those who are above 75 years old. In 2017, even though someone said that only 2 people were running for Parish Council we had six people running for three seats. The last Parish Council election prior to 2017 took place in Last year we had four people running for 2 seats. The Parish Council is now having a yearly plan and working on a five year plan for the parish. We had some help from the diocese. Many of the commissions have new members. Improvements were done to and around the facility. We now have our fourth music director. Dr. Kristopher Seaman took over from Gerry who left us too soon. At the last Worship Commission there was a proposition to replace the Annual Breaking Bread with a Gather hymnal. It will be a change, but we will all adapt. The drawbacks with using the Gather is that we may lose some of our psalms or old hymns. We will need a booklet for daily use that will have the Entrance and Communion Antiphons and the psalm refrain. However, we will greatly benefit from the change. We will not have to recycle the annual hymnals (being more green). It will show dignity to the word of God. The Gather hymnal is hardback, durable and aesthetically pleasing. The best of all is we will save money. The initial cost will be around $9,000. But if we keep the hymnals for 10 years, we will save $2200 each year. The annual cost for the Breaking Bread hymnal currently costs the parish $3165 plus labor to change the books. Each one of you can help towards the cost. You can honor someone who is deceased or living by a $20 contribution for one book. Each $20 will enable you to have another book. Thanks for your help. May God be with you. Fr. Joseph Broudou OSA September 8th & 9th Weekly Contribution.....$4, On-Line Giving, $ TOTAL....$5, Weekly need.....$6, Building Fund.... $ Other Collections..$ Vigil Lights. $ May God bless you for your generosity!

5 SEPTEMBER 16, 2018 AN AUGUSTINIAN PARISH PAGE FIVE STEWARDSHIP REPORT JULY 1ST 2017 JUNE 30TH Stewardship flows from our baptismal vocation. It is sharing of God s given gifts to our parish family, our human family and any community we belong to. See how some of us have been living stewardship. Some statistics for July 2017 June 2018 Number of families to date 1338 Number of members to date 4700 Number of child. in Religious Ed 400 Number of Baptisms 11 Number of First Communicants 58 Number of Confirmand 77 Number of Weddings 2 Number of Funerals 22 Adult Faith Formation programs included: Class on the Mass, Bible Studies on Mondays, Reflection during Lent, The Choice Wine, That Men is You, Exhortation of Pope Francis Rejoice and Be Glad. Our Outreach programs consist of monthly food drives, baby bottle collection, Undy Sunday, VA Hospital collection, back to school, rice bowl as well as year end donations to various outreach programs such as Guardian Angels, World Vision, and Bags of Hope. You will not see the money that is used for outreach on the budget because it is kept in a liability account. Every cent of what we collect for a project is sent directly for that purpose. Many hours of service to the community are done during the Mass by so many liturgical ministers (Greeters, Ushers, Sacristan, Lectors, Communion Ministers, Altar Servers, Cantors, Funeral Altar Servers,). You see that the parish had to put in money for Religious Education. The Religious Education program rents from the Homer Junior High. We do not meet the requirement for time as demanded by the Diocese when we meet every other week. We did not meet our projected Sunday offerings. As you know, the suggested giving from each parishioner is 5% to the parish, 1% to the diocese and 4 % to other outreach programs. This makes the tithing 10%. If you are not there just try to increase your donation 1% every year till you reach the mark. Our total revenue was more that what we projected. Thanks to your generosity. God always provides for what we need, not what we want. There was a surplus because we did not do some of the capital expenditures on the budget. The surplus from will go towards paying for the work that will be done on our sidewalk. We have been doing improvements these past few years. As I say, maintenance is cheaper than repair. I thank all of you who help the family of Our Mother of Good Counsel. If we all do our part then it becomes easier. It is not just about money but giving of our time for service and our time to pray. Without prayer and relationship with God all this is meaningless. I encourage those of you who still sit on the edge. Come give of your time and talent to build the kingdom of God here in Homer Glen at our Mother of Good Counsel. UPDATES FROM OUR WORSHIP COMMISSION Your Worship Commission met on September 6th and decided to purchase new hymnals for the Parish to use at Mass. They will be in-place at the end of the Liturgical year. October is the month of the Rosary. We will be praying the Rosary every Thursday evening in October at 7:00PM. All Saints Day is celebrated on November 1 st and is a Holy Day of Obligation. See Bulletin for Mass times. I want to thank all of you for the support and prayers during my discernment and formation to the Diaconate and celebrating with me at Mass last weekend. I was left speechless at the presentation of the plaque and all the well wishes I received from all my brothers and sisters in Christ. I especially want to thank the women of the CCW for arranging the celebration after the Masses. Thank you for your time and talent. Please continue to pray for me and one another. EPH 1:15-17 For this reason I too, having heard of the faith in the Lord Jesus which exists among you and your love for all the saints, do not cease giving thanks for you, while making mention of you in my prayers; that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give to you a spirit of wisdom and of revelation in the knowledge of Him. Your brother in Christ, Deacon Fred Give support to the Knights next week with their annual Intellectual Disabilities Tootsie Roll drive. Please contact Donn Andersen (donnandersen@gmail.com) or any Knight if you would like to help in raising funds for a great cause. Mark you calendars - Sunday, October 14th is the Knights Fall Blood Drive along with their Famous Spaghetti Dinner being served in our Narthex that evening. Tickets are $8.00 for adults & $4.00 for children under 10.
