ACTA - A Call to Action - ACTA [A Call to Action] is an organisation that brings together clergy, religious and laity to discuss issues of common interest and concern. The next Eucharistic Adoration will be taking place on Saturday 1 st December from noon. This will be a time for silent adoration, - to be in the presence of Our Blessed Lord. Many other wonderful things happen where and when the Lord Jesus is adored in the Blessed Sacrament. FIRST RECONCILIATION AND HOLY COMMUNION Forms are now available at the back of Church. Please fill them in as soon as possible. The programme will begin in the middle of January. If your child has reached at least Year Three of Primary School, he or she will be eligible to celebrate the sacraments. Lectio Divina..The first gathering will be on Monday 26th at 7pm followed by a simple supper. It will take place at Anna Mayer s House in Efail Isaf. If you would like to come and need directions please contact Anna on anna@mayer.co.uk ALL HALLOWS PRAYER WALL Our Prayer Wall is now in place in the Lady Chapel it is situated above the bench in the Lady Chapel. Post it notes can be used to write the name of the person you want us to pray for. The names of those on the Prayer wall will be added to the newsletter each week. See below. We are also asked to pray during Adoration for the names and intentions in the book at the back, of church. CHRISTMAS EVE MASS. We are anticipating a large congregation for our Vigil Mass on Christmas Eve and Parish Annual Christmas Dinner Next Saturday evening we will be celebrating our Annual Parish Christmas Dinner, this year we have 53 people in attendance. The dinner will commence at 7.30 p.m. We are all looking forward to this festive feast with entertainment provided by More than a Song Community Choir. Many thanks to all who have supported this event and to those who have supported throughout the year in the donation of raffle prizes. NATIVITY PLAY 2018 SUNDAY 16 th DECEMBER There will be a short meeting after mass on Sunday to seek interest for the Nativity Play which will take place at the end of mass on Sunday 16th December This meeting will be followed by a rehearsal after mass on Sunday 2nd December and Sunday 9th December. These rehearsals are for children who wish to narrate or act in the play. All other children are invited to dress up on the day and join in but, on the day, all children need to arrive, in costume, for 8:30 am. Reminder This years Carol Service with Readings and traditional and contemporary Carols by Anne the Organist and our Folk Group will take place on Sunday 9th December at 6.00 p.m. following by Mulled Wine and Mince pies. If anyone would like to take part in the Readings or help in anyway in the organisation of the Carol Service, we would be grateful to hear from you. Remember to make a note of this date and come along and join with us. Tea and Coffee Social Gathering...Don t forget to join us for Tea/Coffee/Biscuits) call into the Hall after the 9.15am mass. APF Mission Boxes REMINDER to all Red Mission Box supporters, we have to complete this quarter within the next week or two and finalise the accounts to forward the returns to the APF. If you have not already brought your Red Box in for emptying, please do so by next weekend. There are still a number of emptied boxes waiting to be collected from the APF box in the Foyer. BOOKS/PAMPHLETS. There are a number of interesting Prayer Books and Mission Information on the table in the Church Foyer, please feel free to take them home, they make interesting reading. Share with your family and friends. Pontyclun Foodbank We have received a message from the organisers of the Foodbank at Pontyclun, informing us that they have large quantities of Baked Beans, and Pasta donated and would request the urgent need for other items as listed on the leaflet for distribution to families in need. i.e. Sugar, Tea, Coffee, Cereal, Rice Pudding etc. ALL HALLOWS PRAYER WALL Our Parish Prayer Wall is in the LADY CHAPEL. DYFRIG S NEWS HERITAGE LOTTERY FUND GRANT On Monday evening we heard that our application for the above grant had been successful! It has taken more than 4 years to reach this stage. I want to thank Liz Mayo, members of the PAC, others who were brought in to help and advise, the Archdiocesan Treasurer and Project Manager and others from the Archdiocese. The late Mr Christian Brown was an incredible source of encouragement and expertise. As was his assistant Lucy. His Grace Archbishop George Stack also wrote encouraging letters! While these were working on the grant application St Dyfrig s faithful band of fundraisers was also continuing to raise money through jumble sales, bazaars, women s evenings, tea and coffee mornings and other events. Without these our parish could not survive. These fundraising events were/are needed to show that we will be able to support any grant that we will be given. Whenever a grant is given the receiving body will need to maintain whatever work is undertaken. Our regular fundraisers have shown that this will be done. The grant received comes to approximately 68,000 and on top of this we will be able to recover 37,000 in VAT. Once we receive a letter from HLF we will need to sign various documents and then we will consult with the architect, the Archdiocesan Project Manager and then put out tenders to builders who will be able to undertake the work on the roof. When we have signed all of the documents 50% of the grant will be released.

4 The other 50% will be released at a later date. When, exactly, work will begin will depend on the builders. One of the provisions of the grant is that we undertake a history project concerning the parish. Work on this has already begun. This will show the developments of the Catholic Faith in Treforest and the ways it has shaped our community. Thank you again to all those who have been involved. I am sure that it will mark an important stage in our faith community and a new era in the life of St Dyfrig s. RECONCILIATION / COMMUNION PREPARATION 2019 Reconciliation and First Communion preparation will begin on January 9th It will run on Wednesdays, in St. Dyfrig's Annexe from 6-7pm. Eligible children are currently in Year 3 or above. The sessions will include active participation and home activities. The publication used will be "Making things right" and "Called to his supper". Applications are available in St. Dyfrig's narthex. Completed application forms must be submitted by 25th. Please forward them to Fr. Allan, Maggie White or Brenda Slaughter at church or to Mrs. Williams at St. Michael's School. Many thanks. Message from the PAC Filming or Making a Recording During the Celebration of Mass please note that filming or recording is not allowed during Mass. Any filming or recording that is undertaken during the Celebration of Mass will be contrary to the legislative provisions dealing with protection and copyright. a supermarket collection on the 30 th (12-5 pm) and the 1 st December (all day) at the big Tesco Extra and the Foodbank volunteers will be found in the foyer. Thank you for your continued donations. Autumn Fayre this will take place at St. Dyfrig s on 24 th 1pm 3 pm. We need all the support we can get to make this a successful event. Christmas Raffle The Christmas draw will take place on Sunday 16 th December. The first prize will be 100, second prize Christmas hamper plus many more prizes. There will be a box at the back of Church for contributions towards prizes. Raffle tickets are now available in the Narthex books of 5 tickets - 1 per ticket. If we manage to sell them all we will raise 1,000 for the Church Restoration Fund! Unfortunately it is no longer safe to leave items of value in the Church during the week (there have been a number of incidents of items being stolen from the Narthex and money has also been stolen from the SVP box) so please return any monies and ticket stubs to the Narthex at the weekend only or pass to a member of the fundraising group. Many thanks for your support with the current fundraising activities. Upcoming Event - Sunday 9 th December Music and Mince Pies an afternoon of Christmas songs, carols and other music with light refreshments. More details to come.
