Ralph Cowell, last year s President was inducted into the hallowed and much sought after College. Pete Wahl presided over this year s induction. Obviously a spoof on the real thing, but the past presidents are truly a blessing to our club as they offer a tremendous amount of wisdom and insight. John Portlock was awarded his first Paul Harris Fellow award. Both John and Donna have been a real boost to our club and have been members since July The Portlocks know the importance of supporting the Rotary Foundation. We still have matching funds available for any member wishing to become a PHF. Vocational Service Month Have you ordered your Poinsettias yet? Contact your friends, retailers,and churches. Be sure to the order form to your friends. The form is an attachment today in your COG . Rot[ry Prof_ssion[ls In the annual Rotary calendar, several months are designated to emphasize major programs of Rotary International. October is Vocational Service Month. During this period, clubs highlight the importance of the business and professional life of each Rotarian. Special activities promote the vocational avenue of service. Of great importance to Rotarians and their vocations is the Four Way Test. This test provides guidelines for the ethical conduct of Rotarians in what they think, say and do: 1. Is it the truth? 2. Is it fair to all concerned? 3. Will it build goodwill and better friendships? 4. Will it be beneficial to all concerned? Rotarians are successful professional and business executives who follow these guidelines in their daily lives. Once a week, the opportunity for Rotary fellowship occurs at each club meeting. Warm and personal friendship is the cornerstone of every great Rotary club.

Reach Within to Embrace Humanity On Oct 23, 2011, Royal Fund Management presents the 7 th Annual Taste of Class Casablanca Style -hosted by our Club. It is at the Savannah Center from 6 PM to 9 PM and dress is Black Tie optional or Theme appropriate attire. Music will be provided by Paul Vescos Karacter Band and The Lenny Wilson Quartet. It is very important that you purchase your tickets and reserve your tables (if you want to). There will be tables that are not reserved available. As of September 15 th., 241 tickets have been purchased. All the tables in the Theatre are reserved but not paid. In the Banquet Room, there are only 3 tables reserved. The committee has limited the number of reserved tables in each room to 16. Each room will have 25 tables in the set up. This is an evening of fun and feasting for all. Go for the free form equipment, like dumbbells or cable-andpulley machines that allow freedom of motion. They can give you double the strength gains that fixed equipment offers. Fixed machines--like a leg-press machine where you load up a plate with weights and have a fixed plane of motion to push through. you do not use as many balance and control muscles as free-form equipment. A recent study revealed people in the study who used free-form equipment increased their strength by a whopping 115 %---versus 57 % for the fixed- machine users. Free-form gear boosts better balance too. Whether you use free-form or fixed machines, regular strength training is a key to overall fitness at any age. Rotary is the world's largest privately funded source of international scholarships. Each year, nearly 1,000 university students receive Rotary scholarships to study in another country. Rotary clubs also coordinate a high school-age student exchange program that sends nearly 8,000 students abroad for 3 months to a year.

4 @ Wor^ from Our RI Pr_si^_nt My dear brothers and sisters in Rotary, In the pages of this month s magazine, you will be introduced to the marvelous city of Bangkok, Thailand, which will play host to our 2012 Rotary International Convention. Please consider this my personal invitation to join me, my family, and our fellow Rotarians at what promises to be an incredible event in one of the world s most fascinating locations. Thailand is a spectacular destination, truly the Land of a Thousand Smiles. I would particularly urge Rotarians who have never visited Thailand before to consider this as your chance. You ll be surrounded by gracious Rotarian hosts and friends, old and new, from around the world. Bangkok is a fantastic gateway for those wishing to explore Southeast Asia, and a wonderful experience on its own. For those who hail from countries closer by, take the opportunity to visit a major cultural capital, with all it has to offer including shopping, dining, and sightseeing. Indeed, Bangkok will give you a wonderful value for your time and money. But the very best reason to visit Bangkok, of course, will be the 2012 RI Convention itself, 6-9 May the highlight of the Rotary calendar. All through the year, we reach out to Rotary communities around the globe. At the convention, we have the chance to see all those communities represented in one place to hear all the languages, see all the people, and learn about all the projects of the past year. Nothing brings home the internationality of Rotary like a Rotary convention and nothing else has the same power to inspire. I firmly believe that every Rotary event should be a family event, and this is why Binota and I plan to bring our children and our grandchildren. Why not do the same, and make the Rotary convention part of your family s vacation next year? With so many wonderful events and activities to choose from, there is something for everyone, and plenty of opportunity to draw our families closer to our Rotary service. Every year, I go to the convention excited to see old friends and make new ones, to celebrate our successes and learn from our experiences. And every year, I leave with a sense of pride in Rotary, eager to begin another year of service. Bangkok promises to be the best convention yet. For each of us it may be somewhat different reasons, but the common thread is "connection". Rotary is a tremendous network of people who care about others. Through Rotary we can reach across borders, cultures, and languages. Leaders can work together to reach out to the world and be a part of something very powerful to make a difference to benefit humanity. This network is also local. Members develop friendships and business relationships and it's from this base of friendship that we serve our community. Members can expand their leadership skills, create connections with other business leaders, learn something new every week, and keep growing indefinitely. Rotary is about people.

6 P[st Pr_si^_nt-R[lph Cow_ll It is another Rotary year & with it comes an annual change of leadership. President Paul & his board are hard at work with the upcoming Taste of Class & the new chili venue with the 2 day home & garden show. I am working with the Jerry Knoll & the taste committee acquiring restaurants & antique cars. Every year I look for new Rotary high lights to enhance my Rotary experience. Last year as president it was being involved with the school activities & attending the international convention. The year before it was being involved with the GSE team. This year I have chosen a different role. A more hands on role that explores new avenues of service. I am currently doing local needs assessment for the aquaponics project. There is international need & the original club service budget had $2,000 in it for aquaponic projects to be determined. There is a need for help for Morningstar Fishermen with their Nicaragua project. They could also use volunteer & financial their facility in Dade City. Dave Reed & I have been working with Jason Sester from the scouts. We have proposed a basic aquaponic project for their Camp Lanoche. Their decision makers are considering it before we present the end product to the club. I have also made contact with Joni Smith from the Lady Lake/Sumter Boys & Girls clubs representative. They are very interested about doing a project involving the kids after school. They have visited Morningstar & are very excited. Dave Reed & I will meet with them & discuss what their plans maybe for a local project. My other Rotary involvement is as a shelter box ambassador. This week I presented shelter box to the Apopka Club & the Eustis club. Clubs that have been around since the Neither club has ever contributed to shelter box. A good example of clubs that get pigeon holed & only focus on community projects. However, both clubs now have a new prospect of the need for global disaster relief. They have events coming up with opportunities to display the shelter box tent & collect funds. It is always rewarding to visit other clubs & see their unique aspects of Rotary. We are also really enjoying the Rotary country club golf & dinner afterwards. Some of you seemed to have dropped out. We miss you. Only a few more weeks left Ralph Cowell Past President
