In doing so, the Nexus Institute places itself at the very centre of the Western cultural and philosophical debate. In the best European humanist tradition, its annual Conferences, Lectures, Symposia and Masterclasses, open to all and visited by over a 1000 people, have become a prestigious European platform for informed intellectual debate on the most
5 pressing contemporary issues. The same spirit of tolerance and erudition is upheld in the journal Nexus and the Nexus Library Series. The Nexus Institute has hosted speakers such as Garry Kasparov, Daniel Barenboim, Sonia Gandhi, Jürgen Habermas, Amartya Sen, Mario Vargas Llosa, Elisabeth Mann Borghese, George Steiner, Antonio Damasio, Slavoj Žižek, John Coetzee, Leszek Kolakowski, Simon Schama, Claudio Magris, Simon Rattle, A.S.
