1 ADVANCED PLACEMENT SUMMER ASSIGNMENT Sarah Doughtie Join the Class in Schoology. Access Code: 88ZNJ-5J76G All assignments will be posted in Schoology for your convenience. However, all assignments must be printed out and turned in as a hard copy. No assignments will be submitted through Schoology. Students who are taking Advanced Placement European History are required, by the administration, to complete the summer assignment. This assignment is contained in the attached packet. The course begins in the year 1450, which is during the Renaissance, so it is important for you to be familiar with the Late Middle Ages. The maps of modern Europe are there to put a perspective on the location of different places, which you will need to know. You will also be tested on the map of Europe during the first week of classes. Your packet is due on or before the first day of class. You may use as may different sources, as you need to complete the packet. Plagiarism is the use of someone else s work as your own. Keep in mind that the ultimate goal of the course is to prepare you for the AP exam in May. The class will spend a great deal of time working on the different components of the exam in order to prepare you for the exam. A score of three or better on the exam may earn you college credit, depending upon the college you attend. Many students find the course difficult and challenging. Your grades in this course may be lower than in the regular World History class. Keeping up with the daily assignments, participating in class, and attending school will affect your grade. The amount of effort you put into the course will affect your grade. If you have any questions, you can contact me through . I check my regularly during the summer. Good luck and I hope to see you in the fall. MODERN MAP IDENTIFICATION Identify the following countries on the modern map of Europe. The countries in bold print you will need to label the capital as well as the country. Label the bodies of water, mountains, landmarks and islands listed. Each topic should be an essay, which is two pages, double-spaced. Write your essay as you would for and English class assignment. Plagiarism is the use of someone else s work as your own. This is cheating and will be addressed. Plagiarism includes copying information word for word from the internet and/or other sources. The Black Death Hundred Years War Avignon Papacy Fall of Constantinople Vocabulary You may consult sources such as the Encyclopedia of World History, your textbook website or the Internet to identify the following individuals, ideas, events or terms by defining and describing the influence on history. Note the dates next to some of the events to help you find the correct event. There are three sections in this Part of the assignment. You must do all three sections.
