1 Evangelizing, Equipping, and Empowering the Next Generation of Christ like Men and Life Long Servant Leaders Business Name Illinois Royal Rangers Newsletter March 2014 NEWS BRIEFS District Commander Talk By Tom Kesteleyn Prepare your boys to take the FCF Frontier Adventure Nat l Rendezvous early registration deadline is May 14th WCO Early registration deadline is Sept. 2 Inside this issue: DC TALK 1 R.O.A.R. 2 Events 3-5 WCO Info 6 Leadership 7 FCF 8-10 Yesterday, and this morning s devotions brought a Tom Mathey conversation and thought to my mind..i was reading (I m doing a chronological read through the Bible ) about Lot and Abraham, Sodom etc His wife turning to salt, etc God toasting the city Abraham seeing the pillar of smoke rising.and one of Tom s sermons came to mind it was entitled sometimes a Lot can be too much. I think or maybe it was Don t get too close to a Lot When Abraham and Lot had too much, and had to split up.. Or maybe it was you can learn little from a Lot. Or you can learn a lot from a Lot. Or don t keep a Lot when you re striking out on your own or.sometimes a Lot is more than you need.i think you get the point LOL. I do know this You ve got to smile a Lot once in a while We are about to roll into springtime! The winter is still happening with it snaining (that s snow, then rain together) at my house today, I have no desire to be camping! I should have worn my boots to work the commute is laborious in the wet snow! (Just kidding) but I really am dreaming a bit about where the Lord is leading Rangers for 2014 and beyond. I would really like to see each commander draw in another leader this year. If we can get our leaders to come to training (or take training to our leaders...?) and then have each leader bring someone else with them, we can certainly reach more boys than ever before! You see, god doesn t call the qualified, He qualifies the Called! You are called! And when God increases leadership, he will allow more boys to come. In my observation over the years I can attest that when Ranger Outposts have MORE leaders, filled with enthusiasm and excitement about ministering to boys, God brings MORE BOYS! It is really just that simple. Royal Rangers is a quality ministry. When done properly, with proper training behind the leadership, increase is the natural result. But (like Howie says) Complacency is the enemy of Success! It is time for each one, to lead one, and then we watch the expansion our God can do! Let s not be complacent over the winter months! Invite those DADs to come help you! Let s have some fun at Spring Camps by bringing in a whole new ministry group! Men and Boys! (and keep the old group too.) Red E

6 WCO Registration Illinois is hosting a World Class Outpost on October This is a National Training event that must be registered through the Royal Ranger National Office. The purpose is to provide a successful set of practices, methods, strategies, and tools that will enable you to develop into a "World Class Outpost". It is highly recommended to have all your leaders attend so you can strategize as a group. To register for this event you must go to the National Royal Ranger website Move your mouse over the Training section of the webpage and select Schedule and Registration. 7 Leaders Are Brokers of Gifts Romans 12:6-8 Paul describes seven spiritual gifts, distributed to different members in the body of Christ. Like any good leader, he recognizes his role as a broker of gifts, talents, and resources. He urges everyone to discover; develop, and distribute his or her gift. Every resource God provides should be in use. Every believer is a steward of the abilities he or she has been given. Every leader is a manager whose goal should be to maximize everyone s gift. The list of gifts in Romans 12 is not exhaustive. They are commonly called motivational gifts, which means they are central to our lives, the hub of the wheel around which our particular set of gifts revolve. Paul s list includes: 1. Gift of Prophecy: to challenge others by declaring God s truth and calling for action. 2. Gift of Service or Ministry: to serve others and meet their needs. 3. Gift of Teaching: to explain truth so that others can understand and apply it. 5. Gift of Exhortation: to encourage, strengthen, and inspire others to be their best. The teaching on the left is an excerpt from the Maxwell Leadership Bible. I encourage you to read the scripture and reflect on the author s comments. 6. Gift of Giving: to generously share what God has given. 7. Gift of Leadership: to govern and oversee others so that the group moves forward. 8. Gift of Mercy: to emphasize with, cheer, and show compassion to those who hurt Kent Kohout : Editor Page 7

10 Lincoln Log Abe Lincoln Chapter Frontiersman Camping Fellowship Howdy fellow FCF members! Raise the Axe! I want to take this opportunity to write to you and remind you of a few things. Royal Rangers and FCF is a ministry. Ministry which will make a lasting impression on young men who are growing up. To be brief... Last year at a camp I normally do not attend, I was asked by a young lad (about 8 years of age) during Sunday morning breakfast with his outpost where I lived. I told him over 4 hours drive away. He asked if I would consider moving. I told him not knowing what he was getting at, that I needed to stay where I was living. He then proceeded to tell me he wanted to move next to me in the future. This blew me away. I and another FCF pard had spent the entire camp demonstrating crafts, talking to boys and men, hanging out at our FCF shelters, and telling historical stories. Those actions affected this young lad, and if he is like me, he will remember that camp for the rest of his life. Do not grow weary in well doing! This year it would be nice to see some demonstrations of whatever skill set God has blessed you with. If you can do something historical, bring out the tools and pieces needed to demonstrate your craft to the boys in an FCF camp. Be willing to teach how things are done. Show your tricks of the trade, and how you do things to pass along the knowledge. It might be the thing that sparks a lad or two into developing his own craft, or give him the confidence to jump in and try something he has been thinking about with his outfit. Raise the axe head! Let s get back the tool which worked so well in times past, demonstrating historical crafts and skills while camping! Encourage lads to make pieces of their kit themselves by showing them how it s done. This years FCF opportunities include our up and coming Trace. Look for both Northern and Southern Pow Wow s. Fall encounters in both north and southern Ill. Do NOT forget National Rendezvous this summer. There will be Frontier adventures offered at least in both pow wow s, and Trace this year, so plan accordingly and get your boys ready for the adventure. This year at Trace there will be a new trekking class taught which will help towards earning the new FCF trekking merit. If you or your boys are interested, please contact myself or White Hawk so we have a general idea who will be attending. Keep watching the ILRR website for more info on the trekking class. God bless!
