2 Co-ordination of Islamic Colleges Office :Markazutharbiyyathil Islamiyya Valanchery, PO karthala, 7971 Tel: , Fax: , Site: Kerala, the south-western Indian state, has a rich and vibrant Islamic tradition which can be traced back to the period of Prophet Muhammed, peace be up on him. At present Muslims in this tiny state constitute one fourth of the total population and enjoy a peaceful sociocultural environment conducive to Islamic educational and cultural activities and propagation. Inspired by such a dynamic tradition, Islamic scholars and educational institutions in the state have given topmost priority to promote and disseminate the pristine and classical creeds of Islam. Highlighting this legacy are over 1000 Darses (traditional Schools) and more than two hundred Islamic colleges functioning across the state. But the syllabus and curriculum of these colleges require some modifications and upgrading to make them keep pace with time and get adapted to the modern education system. It was with this purpose in mind that the Coordination of Islamic Colleges (CIC) was formed in 000 as a confederation of some Islamic institutes for advanced studies in the state. Registered as per the Society s Registration Act of Kerala government (regi.no:397/04), the CIC is an academic governing body functioning as a university with 33 colleges affiliated to it. The CIC has signed a Memorandum of Understanding for academic and cultural cooperation with the University of Al Azhar in Egypt and has obtained an equivalency certificate from the University of Cairo (Egypt),Aligarh Muslim University and Hamdard University both in India. The CIC has given shape to a comprehensive Islamic course by combining both Islamic and material streams of education for boys and girls. We are here submitting a details of syllabus and course of study for girls, tailored to mould a skilled and religious women folk equipped with a cutting edge of knowledge both in Islamic and worldly streams, capable of building light gushing families and propagating Islam abiding by the Islamic guide lines. Those who successfully complete the course are conferred with the title Wafiyya derived from the Qruanic verse, whosoever keeps his covenant with Allah, on him He will bestow immense reward. 3 COURSE OF STUDY The courses of study in the colleges affiliated to the CIC are divided into two phases: 1)Preparatory (Tamhid) ) Undergraduate (Aliya) There will be 40 working days (40 working weeks) in an academic year including four weeks of term-end examinations. There will be 10 working days (0 working weeks) in a semester including two weeks of term-end examination. There will be six working days in a week. There will be eight periods in a working day. Each period will be equivalent to 4 minutes. 3

5 PROCEDURES OF ADMISSION AND EXAMINATION Students will be enrolled on the course in the first week of June every year. The admission is through an entrance test run by the Examination Board of CIC. The basic qualification for applying to the preparatory course is to pass both in the SSLC examination and seventh grade of Madrassa run by the Samastha Kerala Jamiyatul Ulema (or equivalent). The applicants shall not exceed 17 year of age. A student will not be given more than 1 days of leave in an academic year. Term-end examinations will be held towards the end of each semester and only those who pass in the exams can appear for the next semester. Those who fail in not more than three papers shall be given a supplementary chance in the same semester. In the event of failing in more than three papers, it is required to repeat the semester (only the papers lost) along with the next batch of students. In selected papers, 0% of the total marks will be by way of Continuous Evaluation processes including Projects and Collections. The criteria for awarding grades at the term-end exams: Excellent : 90% and above Very Good : 80% and above, Good : 0% and above Satisfied : 0% and above Below average : 3% and above Failed : Below 3% Students are obliged to abide by any additional explanation regarding these regulations by the syndicate of CIC and its examination board.
