See The Raybuck & Freed Families My great-grandfather William Pride's father Henry Pride was born in Delaware in 1783 and is listed as age 67 in the Barbour County, WV, 1850 census. He was a farmer. He married Mary Sapp who was born in She was listed as age 70 in the same 1850 census and also was born in Delaware. *Henry's parents were John and Elizabeth "Betty" Steele Pride. Henry died ca This is when his will was probated. In other material, Henry Pride's birth was listed as August 1781 in Sussex County, Delaware. He was in the war of He applied for a pension but was denied. Instead he received 80 acres from a land grant on Scotts Run outside of Morgantown, WV. Bounty land or a land grant was given to anyone who served in a war at that time in American history. John, Henry's father, settled in Delaware. The Prides came to America from England. When and how did John's parents come to Delaware? That is the question we have not yet answered. Our Prides came to America from Scotland or England. The Pride name first appears in ancient medieval records in Lanarkshire, located in Scotland, where they were anciently seated. The Pride family can trace their ancestors back to the ancient territories of between the 11th and 12th centuries. From early on the Pride family not only held lands and estates located in Lanarkshire but were also actively allied with other influential families. They also branched out in other territories and holdings, before making the long journey to the new world. Pryde, Prid and Pryd are some variations with Pryde being most prevalent in Scotland. * Mary Sapp, William's mother and Henry Pride's wife, is the granddaughter of a John and Ann (surname unknown) Hall Pride and the daughter of their daughter, Sarah Pride b and husband, Joseph Sapp. Joseph Sapp, Mary Sapp's father, was born ca and died Sept. 16, He was a patriot of the Revolution: Delaware, Private, Monongalia Co., VA; Delaware Blues under Col. 6 This picture is from an old tin type. It is not certain who three of them are. The gentleman on the left is Robert Bunner. As it is known these four: Robert, William, Hannah and Mary Nancy were great friends and were often known to be together. The Bunners have triangular faces and the Prides have round faces. I believe the lady standing behind Robert is his sister Hannah. The gentleman on the right is probably William Pride and the lady standing behind William is Mary Nancy Pride, William s sister.
