3 Ill. David A. Glattly, 33, Named as the next Sovereign Grand Commander of the Scottish Rite, NMJ Scottish Rite Sovereign Grand Commander John William McNaughton has the pleasure to announce to the membership today that Active Member, David A. Glattly, 33, will succeed him as leader of the Northern Masonic Jurisdiction upon his retirement in August To our valued members and Brothers, said Commander McNaughton, I could not be more pleased to inform you that the Supreme Council s nominating committee has named David Glattly as your next Sovereign Grand Commander. Brother Glattly has been an active and honored Freemason for more than 40 years, and a member of the Scottish Rite for nearly three decades. Our fraternity will be led by a good man who serves from his heart. He will shoulder great responsibility with intelligence, experience, dedication, and grace. The appointment of Brother Glattly marks the first time a new Scottish Rite leader has been announced a year prior to taking office. These are challenging times for Freemasonry, said Commander McNaughton. Your Scottish Rite leadership and I feel it is important to have a thorough and seamless transition for our Fraternity. Commander McNaughton and Brother Glattly will consult together over the next 12 months to continue the work we began a decade ago shifting the priorities of Northern Masonic Jurisdiction back to caring for our members, and bringing compassion to the forefront of our Fraternity, he said. Said Brother Glattly, I am extremely proud and humbled to be nominated as the Northern Masonic Jurisdiction s new Sovereign Grand Commander. It is truly the honor of my lifetime. From my time as a young man in DeMolay, the ideals and ageless standards of our Craft have been central to my life. I can vow to all members that I will work to my highest abilities to serve you, and champion the future of this vibrant, historic, and vital organization. Brother Glattly began his Masonic career by joining Clifton Chapter, Order of DeMolay in 1970, eventually serving as State Master Councilor of New Jersey. He was raised a Master Mason in Clifton Lodge #203, Clifton, New Jersey in He served as Worshipful Master in 1995, and as the Grand Marshal of the Grand Lodge of New Jersey in He became an Active Member of the DeMolay Supreme Council in 1994 and served as Executive Officer in New Jersey from In New Jersey Freemasonry, he was awarded the prestigious Daniel Coxe Medal for distinguished service to the Craft. Glattly completed the degrees of the Scottish Rite in He was created a Sovereign Grand Inspector General, 33, Honorary Member of the Supreme Council in 2000 at Pittsburgh Pennsylvania. He was crowned an Active Member at Boston, Massachusetts in He is also a member of Salaam Temple, AAONMS; Hugh DePaynes Commandery #1, St. Joseph Conclave, Red Cross of Constantine, among numerous other Masonic organizations. He and his wife Monica live in Hawthorne, New Jersey. They have two children, son Matthew and daughter Jessica.
4 SCOTTISH RITE DAY SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 12, 2016 NORTHERN AND SOUTHERN MASONIC JURISDICTIONS COME TOGETHER IN THE FIRST NATIONWIDE EVENT CELEBRATING OUR FRATERNITY On November 12, 2016, Michigan Valleys will come together to celebrate the Scottish Rite. It is the first time the fraternity has held such a nationwide day of honor. Commander McNaughton and Commander Seale are asking that everyone in both jurisdictions commemorate Scottish Rite Day. Our hope is that you see it as a chance to enjoy a fun, memorable occasion where you can reach out to and connect with your Brothers. Michigan is planning a statewide 32 conferral at the Bay City Scottish Rite Center. There will be entertainment for the ladies while the conferral is taking place. A social hour, banquet with entertainment, and dancing will round out the event. Thirty-third degree members will be asked to wear white tie and tails to the conferral and banquet and all others either a tuxedo or dark suit. A block of rooms has been reserved at the Bay City DoubleTree Riverfront Hotel ( ). Scottish Rite Day is meant to be an enjoyable, inspirational, and meaningful experience for our members. The event will also accord the 32 the recognition and prestige it deserves. A new jewel will be available in November 2016, to all who have been made a Scottish Rite Mason. Each candidate receiving his 32 will be presented this commemorative jewel free of charge; others may purchase this one-of-a-kind jewel for $25. Registration information and schedule of events is available on the Michigan Council of Deliberation website. AASR-MI.ORG - EVERYONE MUST REGISTER SEPARATELY

6 Children s Dyslexia Centers, Inc. A Scottish Rite Charity Student of the month Meet Ava n Randall, Ava, Pat VanKeuren Ava is an 11 year old sixth grader who attends Dearborn Heights Montessori Center. Ava is a bright, happy, outgoing young lady with many interests; she enjoys soccer, acting and gymnastics. In her spare time she loves to bake and is very artistic, often showing us her latest art project when she comes for tutoring. Ava lives with her mom, dad and three older sisters, Natalie, Julia and Emma, as well as her cat, Carlito. In school, Ava s favorite subjects are math and science. She likes experiments and has a laboratory kit at home. Some experiments work really well and others make a big mess to clean-up, especially the volcano she made with vinegar and baking soda that exploded all over! According to Ava, The Center has really helped improve my reading and spelling. She enjoys working with Ms. Diane and likes the learning games the best. Ava likes to read; right now, she is reading the Biography of Ellen DeGeneres for a school project. Ann Randall, Ava, Pat VanKeuren Ava is in drama at school and had featured roles in Peter Pan, The Night before Christmas, and Welcome to Wonderland. Ava put her stage experience to good use helping our Center this past April. Ava shared her personal journey through dyslexia with a large audience at the Grant-A-Wish Barbie Fundraising dinner. Everyone was very impressed with Ava and her ability to present to a large group. Ava really enjoyed the whole experience and hopes to present again next year!
7 5K WA L K O CTO B E R 2, 2016 The K Walk kicked off Dyslexia Awareness Month for the Children s Dyslexia Center of Southeastern Michigan. After a soggy week and pouring rain in the morning, the sun came out and so did our walkers. This year s event had over a hundred walkers hitting the trail and more donating as virtual walkers. Members of the Dearborn High Marching Band, led by drum major and center alumnus, Sarah Randall provided music before and after the walk. We had a special guest appearance by Azia Hernandez, Miss Michigan World. Azia is dyslexic and part of her job as Miss Michigan is beauty with a purpose which is supporting a very personal cause: helping raise awareness about dyslexia. Our alumni families the Corbins, the Walters and the Cole-McCorkles continue to give back to our center. RLAC, Hershey Shoes, MedCart Pharmacy and Fourmidable were corporate sponsors for the 2016 event. Lots of current families came out for a day of family fun! A huge thank-you to everyone who made this year s walk successful!
