CONCORDIA LUTHERAN CHURCH 1 FOURTH SUNDAY IN ADVENT December 23, :00, 9:30 & 11:00 a.m. Oh sing to the LORD a new song, for he has done marvelous things! -Psalm 98:1a AS WE GATHER (prepared by Jim Gann) But you, O Bethlehem, Ephrathah, who are too little to be among the clans of Judah, from you shall come forth for me one who is to be ruler in Israel, whose origin is from old, from ancient days. Micah 5:2 (ESV) Have you ever wondered, Why Bethlehem of all places? He who was destined to be the Bread of Life was to be born in Bethlehem; which means house of bread in Hebrew. It was this Bread that was broken for the life of the world and for the nourishment of the soul. It is this Bread that gives us eternal life. Due to our sinful nature, we were and are weak and unworthy of His Grace. Yet, God s love for us was so great, He sent His only Son to die for us. He came to Bethlehem, so small, so obscure, and so humble, as he comes to us still. PRELUDE CALL TO WORSHIP and PASSING OF THE PEACE RINGING OF THE BELLS (Please stand and face the Cross)
OPENING VERSICLES (Psalm 130 & Isaiah 64) Pastor: O that You would rend the heavens and come down, People: that the mountains might quake at Your presence. Pastor: I wait for the Lord, my soul waits, People: and in His Word I hope. Pastor: My soul waits for the Lord, People: more than watchmen for the morning. Pastor: O Israel hope in the Lord! For with the Lord there is steadfast love, and with Him is plentiful redemption. People: And He will redeem Israel from all his iniquities. Pastor: Oh that You would rend the heavens and come down, People: that the mountains might quake at Your presence. 2 (Please remain standing) OPENING HYMN #332 Savior of the Nations, Come + DIVINE SERVICE SETTING FOUR + INVOCATION, CONFESSION & ABSOLUTION Pastor: In the name of the Father and the + Son and of the Holy Spirit. People: Amen. Pastor: Our help is in the name of the Lord. People: who made heaven and earth. Pastor: If You, O Lord, kept a record of sins, O Lord, who could stand? People: But with You there is forgiveness; therefore You are feared.
Pastor: Since we are gathered to hear God s Word, call upon Him in prayer and praise, and receive the body and blood of our Lord Jesus Christ in the fellowship of this altar, let us first consider our unworthiness and confess before God and one another that we have sinned in thought, word, and deed, and that we cannot free ourselves from our sinful condition. Together as His, people let us take refuge in the infinite mercy of God, our heavenly Father, seeking His grace for the sake of Christ, and saying: God, be merciful to me, a sinner. People: Almighty God, have mercy upon us, forgive us our sins, and lead us to everlasting life. Amen. Pastor: Almighty God in His mercy has given His Son to die for you and for His sake forgives you all your sins. As a called and ordained servant of Christ, and by His authority, I therefore forgive you all your sins in the name of the Father and of the + Son and of the Holy Spirit. People: Amen. 3 KYRIE
HYMN OF PRAISE Gloria in Excelsis 4 COLLECT OF THE DAY Pastor: The Lord be with you. People: And also with you. Pastor: Let us pray together. ALL: Stir up Your power, O Lord, and come and help us by Your might, that the sins which weigh us down may be quickly lifted by Your grace and mercy; for You live and reign with the Father and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen.

HOLY GOSPEL Luke 1:39 45 (Mary visits Elizabeth.) Pastor: The Holy Gospel according to St. Luke, the first chapter. People: Glory to You, O Lord. (The Gospel is read. Pastor: This is the Gospel of the Lord. People: Praise to You, O Christ 6 NICENE CREED All: We believe in one God, the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth and of all things visible and invisible. And in one Lord Jesus Christ, the only-begotten Son of God, begotten of his Father before all worlds, God of God, Light of Light, very God of very God, begotten, not made, being of one substance with the Father, by whom all things were made; who for us men and for our salvation came down from heaven and was incarnate by the Holy Spirit of the virgin Mary and was made man; and was crucified also for us under Pontius Pilate. He suffered and was buried. And the third day he rose again according to the Scriptures and ascended into heaven and sits at the right hand of the Father. And He will come again with glory to judge both the living and the dead, whose kingdom will have no end. And we believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord and giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son, who with the Father and the Son together is worshiped and glorified, who spoke by the prophets. And we believe in one holy Christian and apostolic Church, we acknowledge one Baptism for the remission of sins, and we look for the resurrection of the dead and the life + of the world to come. Amen.
(Please be seated) 7 We invite the children to come forward as we sing: LSB 740, v.1&2 I am Jesus little lamb, Ever glad at heart I am; For my shepherd gently guides me, knows my need and well provides me, Loves me every day the same, even calls me by my name. Day by day, at home, away, Jesus is my staff and stay. When I hunger Jesus feeds me, into pleasant pastures leads me; When I thirst, He bids me go, where the quiet waters flow.
