Donations accepted. To sign up, contact Lorrie Maples at , ext. 14, or lmaples@stcatherinemke.org. Shattered is a unique, interactive experience designed to help communities understand poverty. The simulation allows for individuals to experience what it is like to live below the poverty line. Participants will confront the choices and challenges people in poverty face on a daily basis and will be given an opportunity to reflect on the harsh realities of poverty. Most importantly, it encourages people to make a difference. Live the Liturgy Love of God and love of neighbor are intimately bound together. You cannot have one without the other. Who are my neighbors and how do I love them? It is easy to confess with our lips that we love our neighbor. But how does this get translated into action? Our neighbors are not only those who live around us or are most familiar to us. Everyone is our neighbor: those who are foreign to us, those who have hurt us, those we envy, those we take for granted, and those who are poor. Embracing humanity in all of its forms is not always an easy task, and doing so can quickly take us out of our comfort zones. Working for justice, as God desires, often means adjusting how much we can have and sacrificing our wants and desires. The very image of God is on the faces of our neighbors, and our face can be found there as well. How much do we really love them? Lost and found A wedding ring was found in church. Please contact the parish office if you have recently lost a wedding ring.
3 IN OUR PARISH COMMUNITY Holiday Craft Fair Our annual Holiday Craft Fair is just a week away. I m sure you are all asking, how can I help? The short answer is: buy and sell your raffle tickets; volunteer to work a shift at the Fair; bake your favorite cookie, bar, bread, pie cake, candy Raffle tickets and volunteer sign-up sheets are in the gathering area. Baked goods will be gratefully accepted on Friday, November 9, in the parish office until 3:00PM and in the cafeteria from 6:00 to 8:00PM. They are also welcome anytime during the Fair on November 10 and 11. Our success is dependent on you, so we will see you at the Fair! 2018 Calendar Raffle Our 2018 calendar raffle is ready to go! They make great stocking stuffers or Christmas gifts. Calendars are available in the parish office and in the gathering area, and watch for them to be sold after Masses and during other parish events. Please return your completed ticket stubs with $20 per entry in an envelope marked Calendar Raffle. (Ticket stubs will not be accepted without payment.) Entries can be returned to the parish office or dropped in the collection basket no later than December 31. A winning ticket will be picked each day. There will be 363 chances to win $20 and two chances to win $100. Winning names will be re-entered for additional chances to win. National Vocations Awareness Week: November 4-10, 2018 As Catholics, we firmly believe that God has a plan for our lives! He calls some to marriage, some to the priesthood, and others to religious life. Some remain as generous single people. Fully living our own vocations and teaching young people how to discern God's call is a serious duty, but also a joyful one. Today begins National Vocation Awareness Week. During this week, please pray for vocations, and pray about how God is calling you to live your vocation more deeply. Encourage the young people in your life children, grandchildren, students, and friends to be open if God calls them to the priesthood or religious life. For more information about vocation events or discernment resources, visit thinkpriest.org, or contact the Vocation Office at vocationoffice@sfs.edu. Container to Honduras We are getting ready to send a container to Honduras by mid- November, so please bring in any donations of gently-used items by November 11. Items can be left in the Rest-A-While bench, clearly marked Honduras, or brought to the parish office. Congratulations to our Calendar Raffle winners 10/24/18 Kimberly Gromala 10/25/18 Jessica Wegner 10/26/18 Dan Jakubowski 10/27/18 Erlinda Pajawwstan 10/28/18 Dennis Rogowski 10/29/18 Everett Devore 10/30/18 Michael Schwerm Catholics Care. Catholics Vote. Practice Civil Dialogue. In their statement on Forming Consciences for Faithful Citizenship, the U.S. Catholic bishops remind Catholics that we are called to engage in charitable, respectful, and civil dialogue during election season. In a culture that is dominated by partisan attacks, sound bites, and media hype, the Church calls for a different kind of political engagement (no. 14). Visit to access resources on civil dialogue and on how our faith calls us to engage during election season and beyond. Prayer for the Faithful Departed Good and faithful God, You have given us so many people in our lives who have given us joy and solace. On this day we ask You to remember our dearly departed. Keep them close to You as we all wait for that day when we all will come and worship in Your presence. We ask this through Your Son, Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
