1 Zion Reformed Church -- Floodlight 2017 Celebrate!! World Communion Sunday - October 1 November 1, 1936, World-Wide Communion Day was born. In the winter of 1935, a group of ministers met to study the spiritual needs and possibilities of the church during the dark days of the Great Depression. In the Lord's Supper they saw a great opportunity to unite Christians in dedication to Christ. In 1937, the date of World-Wide Communion Sunday was changed to the first Sunday in October, where it has remained. The word "wide" has since been dropped from the name, giving us the present observance of World Communion Sunday. The day remains as it began: "A great opportunity to unite the membership in dedication to the Lord Jesus Christ." People from the four corners of the world gather together to answer Christ's invitation, "This do in remembrance of me." **************************** *Discussion was held regarding the Pleasant Prairie Classis meeting held on September 12 *Discussed what updates will be done in the parsonage *$2, from the Benevolent Fund will be sent to the RCA to aid in hurricane relief. *Search Committee will go over the pastoral surveys and they are currently working on a church profile. *Zion Reformed Church Mission Statement: Gathering in the country to serve God and each other by sharing our faith, growing in its word, and living in Christ's love. *Next consistory meeting: Tuesday, October 10. ZION S COLORS OF AUTUMN BAZAAR SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 4th SIGN UP SHEETS: MEN, WOMEN, and YOUTH - everyone is encouraged to help out at the bazaar!! The sign-up sheets for workers, food donations & centerpieces are on the bulletin board in the foyer. Members who sign up in a shop will serve together as a team on behalf of the shop. PIES: All women of the church are asked to bring one UNCUT pie in a DISPOSABLE pie tin for the kitchen by 9:00am on the day of the bazaar. To ensure a variety of pie throughout the entire bazaar, please sign your name under a pie category (fruit / soft / pumpkin / pecan) on the sheet posted on the bulletin board. CENTERPIECES: Thank you to those providing centerpieces. PLEASE HAVE THEM TO THE CHURCH NO LATER THAN NOON ON FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 3. Please bring a plastic tablecloth and a package of napkins for your table. Centerpieces will be sold at the auction. ATTIRE: Attire for the day is fall colors! Nametags will be provided -- we've switched to reusable nametags so please return them to the secretary's box before you leave. CONTAINERS/BAGS/BOXES: Plastic containers (ice cream, cool whip, cottage cheese, large butter, etc.), sacks & cardboard flats are needed for the shops. Please bring what you can!

2 SET-UP: All items for the shops should be at the church by 7:00pm on Friday, November 3. Shop team members may come throughout the day to set up their areas if they wish. SHOPS: Bakery and frozen casseroles, Cards & Napkins, Crafts, Pantry & Trash-n-Treasure (no clothing, TVs, or electronics of any kind). Donations to the shops are very much appreciated! Individual shops will be open 11:00am-2:30pm & a combined shop will be open 2:30pm-6:00pm. THE KITCHEN & MENU: Pork loin sandwiches, beef burgers, baked potato bar, potato salad, beans, pie, desserts & beverages. Questions? See Carma DeVries. PRICING: PLEASE indicate a selling price on your donated items. All items will be sold throughout the day or at the auction. To be considerate of Zion s guests, ALL members of Zion are requested to not purchase items prior to 1:30pm. AUCTION ITEMS: Items will be displayed on Sundays prior to the bazaar. Please let Marsha know if you have an auction item for the bazaar. AUCTION: All special auction items, centerpieces & remaining items will be sold at the auction. The auction will start after the tables are cleared & wiped down, & kitchen clean-up has ended. (MANY HANDS MAKE LIGHT WORK HERE -- DO NOT BE AFRAID TO LEND A HAND CLEARING TABLES OR HELPING IN THE KITCHEN!!!!!!!) POSSIBLE IDEAS: Holiday decorations, seasonal decorations, baked goods, candy, canned goods, collectibles, dish towels, greenery, pictures, pillows, pottery, quilts, table runners, table settings, trash-ntreasure, wall hangings, woodworking, etc. Donations: If you would like to make a cash donation to purchase meat, casserole ingredients, or to go toward the bazaar's income, please see Diane Hughes. 3 Family of Rose Dirksen: The families of Rose Dirksen would like to say "thank you" for all of the kindness shown to us at the time of her death. She will be greatly missed by many. The memories she leaves behind for all of us will always be treasured. To the congregation: thank you for all the years of love you showed to her and to us during this time. A special thank you to Pastor Art and Pastor Chris for the service at her funeral. Thank you to Brad VanHorn for the beautiful music and song. Thank you to the ladies who made and served the lunch! In Psalms 78:4, "We will tell the next generations about the Lord's power and His great deeds and the wonderful things He has done." This is something God instructed us to do and she truly shared to many the Lord's power and great deeds. She leaves behind a legacy of love for the Lord and wanting to have the Lord glorified in the life she lived that God gave her.
