First class or coach? Medium or well done? Coffee or tea? Do you want fries with that? Modern life sometimes seems to be an endless series of choices. We respond sometimes eagerly, sometimes reluctantly, sometimes resentfully, sometimes hesitantly. We even duck the question with a I don t care you decide. Surprise me But some choices are so important that one s whole life depends on a choice. The scripture I ve chosen for this Sunday s sermon tells the story of one such choice. 3 Christian Church Disciples of Christ Pacific Southwest Region 10 th Annual Don Shelton Memorial Golf Classic This year s tournament will take place September 22, 2014 at San Dimas Canyon Golf Course. Every church in the Pacific Southwest Region has been invited to participate by purchasing tickets for the Opportunity Drawing. Proceeds to these ticket sales benefit the Don Shelton Scholarship Fund at the Disciples Seminary Foundation as well as other units of the church. DON SHELTON SCHOLARSHIP FUND DRAWING: Grand Prize Drawing 60 Samsung LED 1080p 120Hz. Tickets for this drawing are $10.00 each/three for $20.00 OPPORTUNITY DRAWING: First Prize 2 tickets for seven Broadway plays performed at the Pantages Theater in Hollywood between January and June 2015, including Phantom of the Opera Second Prize 2 tickets to the Rose Bowl game to be played in Pasadena on New Year s Day, Third Prize a 64 GB black Apple ipad Mini. Tickets for this drawing are $1.00 each 6x $5.00, 12x $10.00, 25x $20.00 Please Contact the church office for tickets (562) The property committee has been very busy taking care of many property needs this past month. Some of the items addressed: The baptismal filter was cleaned out and chlorine dispensers have been put in place. The area west side of the church was completely weeded out and has been prepared for cloth and gravel to be laid out to prevent weeds. The pastor s office area was weeded out and the flower bed was cleaned out. The popcorn ceiling and stained area was removed from the inside of the pulpit area, the wall was repaired and got a fresh coat of paint. The popcorn ceiling was removed from the chapel area; the ceiling and walls were repainted. The vine and the flower bed by the azaleas were trimmed. The hedges around the rose bushes and the ones on the west side were trimmed. The parking lot (far right corner) was trimmed and cleaned up. Robinson Hall planter area was cleaned out and more ground cover was put down. Electric work was done to church sign and timer (breakers replaced). Windows by the garden area inside church were cleaned. The light fixtures in front of the church entrance were painted. The front entrance doors were repaired. A filing cabinet was replaced. The workroom door is in the process of being replaced. PLEASE NOTE THAT OUR CUSTODIAN WILL BE ON VACATION ALL OF NEXT WEEK.
