Provo, UT: BYU Chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists, Sigma Delta Chi, First Edition. 69pp. Quarto [28 cm x 21 cm] Illustrated mustard colored stapled wrappers. Near fine. Ends with a two-page biographical sketch of both artists by Nelson Wadsworth. A "greatest hits" of Daily Universe cartoons with selected letters to the editor. Before these two were assembling a cabinet full of awards (including a Pulitzer for Benson - and it is just a matter of time for Bagley), and humoring and angering countless readers, they were just two students at BYU holding up a mirror. This collection of cartoons had a miniscule print run and is rare. "Now, as Pat and Steve prepare to graduate and embark on professional careers, we are proud to have had a small part in their development. Descriptions are taken from: 'Temples of the Most High' by Lundwall, 'House of the Lord' by Talmage, 'Temples' by Sjodahl and the 'Documentary History of the Church' The ten temples are: Kirtland, Nauvoo, St. George, Logan, Manti, Salt Lake, Hawaiian [Laie], Alberta, Arizona [Mesa] and Idaho Falls. 4 Privately Produced Collection of Dedicatory Prayers 3- [Smith, Brian L.]. Dedicatory Prayers of Latter-day Temples of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latterday Saints. [Portland, OR]: [Portland Institute of Religion], [1990]. 162pp. Quarto [28 cm] Spiral bound printed wrappers. Very good. Privately produced collection that was originally designed for an institute class taught at the Portland Institute of Religion. Brian L. Smith was the Institute director. Contains dedication and rededication prayers for all forty-six temples completed by Contents are typed photocopies with the index typed and taped to the recto of the first page of text. The dedicatory prayer for the Toronto Temple has been cut out of the 'Church News' for September 1, 1990 and taped to page 159. The first page of the index is printed upside down. I can locate two intuitional copies (LDSCHL, BYU). $60

This talk was given by Emma Ray Riggs McKay, wife of President David O. McKay, to the Brigham Young University Women at Brigham Young University on Saturday, April 12, 1952, and was originally entitled, 'Attitudes Toward Peace as Fostered in the Home.' Cover shows minor overall wear with rubbing to the extremities. Missing liner notes. Anti-drug/Hippie/conspiracy thingy by the (very) conservative religious political theorist (Mike Lee and Barry Goldwater are lefties in comparison). "Skousen brilliantly unmasks the Timothy Learys among us, the Pied Pipers who tell our youngsters they can 'turn on, tune in and drop out' by means of potent weeds and seeds and chemical compounds." - Vic Knight, the owner of Key Records, and the producer of this work. "This one piece of luggage could carry enough L.S.D. to incapacitate every man, woman and child in the United States. What are you going to do about it." - from the cover. $40

Remnants of black paper attached to the reverse of the image (likely from being removed from a scrapbook. "Alma Chase, Nephi, Utah" stamped in blue ink on the reverse. Manuscript identification on the reverse. Black and white photograph of the interior of the Gold-Edge Pharmacy that was located in Nephi, Utah. Image shows a soda fountain in the foreground with glass counter cases and shelves displaying merchandise, a man in a suit stands behind the cases in the background. $185

Closed tears and chipping. Head of image damaged. Produced for The Salt Lake Brewing Company. Rare promotional piece produced for Salt Lake Brewing Company. Salt Lake Brewing ( ) was a major producer of beer in the Salt Lake Valley, that was bankrupted by Prohibition. Some of the buildings are still standing on 10th east at the turn between 4th and 5th South. Nice image. "Pure beer is the most healthful beverage in the world and is highly recommended by physicians for its strength giving qualities, being recognized as the national beverage of the country" - Jacob Moritz, owner of SL Brewing. $425

Map [16 cm x 25 cm] of Salt Lake contains markers for every place listed. Also contains a map of Zion, Bryce and Grand Canyon National Parks [28 cm x 22 cm]. Large [36 cm x 28 cm] black and white reproduction of an original silver gelatin print. This is one of the twenty black and white plates from Hyde's 'Glen Canyon Portfolio 'which where matted and signed by Hyde (on the matte) for an event at the Salt Lake Art Center that the Cosmic Aeroplane sponsored in 1979, that featured Philip Hyde and Ken Sleight. Presumed uncommon. $150

This poster was produced for the Earth First! 1984 Road Show (tour) that traveled throughout the western U.S. and featured two films ('Give Trees a Chance' and 'The Cracking of Glen Canyon Damn'); two speakers (John Seed and EF! founder, Dave Foreman) and music (Cecelia Ostrow). $50

Short typed letter on the reverse mentioning the California Pacific International Exposition, San Diego "Few places in all the world present such a magnificent panorama, such a unique setting, as Newport Bay, the location of which is shown by the map at the lower left-hand corner of this artistic drawing. The Great Southwest's greatest 'port of pleasure' and focal point of the 'Riviera of America' between Los Angeles and San Diego, Newport Bay lies within easy access of all the large cities of Southern California. Lacks salmon colored covers, foxed (more so at extremities), horizontal folds with some minor splitting at the ends. First work by the California humorist, Delano, that offers scenes in the life of a California miner during the Gold Rush in satirical verse.
