D Rudall stated that his first year as IDE President has been an interesting and enjoyable one. He reported that IDE membership currently stands at 405 members. Over the course of 12 months the IDE have lost a total of 36 members due to members leaving for various reasons (i.e non payment of subscriptions, retirement etc). He reported the following levels of membership: Entrant 68 (*65) Technician 3 Associate 49 (*88) Associate to Technician 22 Full Member 181 (*159) Hon. Member 3 (*3) Fellow 18 (*17) Hon. Fellow 6 (*7) Retired 22 (*24) Affiliate 26 (*27) Student 6 (*5) (* Previous year) D Rudall stated that all current members had paid their Subscriptions on time this year and congratulated everyone for making sure that this was done in a timely manner. He informed members that sadly the IDE had lost 18 members due to non-payment of Subscriptions this year which has been disappointing. D Rudall reported that the IDE are scheduled to move offices before the end of He explained that the administrative section of the IDE have outgrown the office space at Chatham Dockyard therefore a new more practical office has been sourced to not only accommodate the administration but also offer training rooms, board and meeting rooms and working areas for visiting members. The new office is located in a more accessible location and members will be welcome to visit at any time. D Rudall stated that over the last 12 months the IDE have held some very successful events including two Seminars and a variety of Regional Meetings that have taken place in different areas of the country. His personal favourite, Demo Expo 2015 was a resounding success and he personally wished to thank J Mould & Sons for their support and commitment to this event. He confirmed that he is looking forward to the next Demo Expo in The attendance for all events has increased which is encouraging as it helps Members to achieve their CPD. D Rudall confirmed that over the last 12 months the IDE have donated just over 2, to his designated charity, Teenage Cancer Trust and thanked all those who have made donations and for their generosity to this worthwhile cause. 2

3 4. Revision of the Increase to Subscriptions D Rudall stated that the last revision to IDE Subscription fees were approximately 4-5 years ago and that compared to other organisations the IDE Subscription fees were very low and that we appear to undervalue ourselves as an Institute. IDE 40 th Anniversary Celebrations David Darsey informed members that 2016 was an important year for the IDE as it would be our 40 th Anniversary. He also announced that on 1 st July 2016 there would be a Dinner and Dance to celebrate this momentous occasion. 7. SEE/IDE Registration Agreement D Rudall thanked Mick Ulyatt for his contribution leading up to the SEE/IDE Registration Agreement and attaining this accreditation for the Institute. A full explanation of the agreement can be found on Page 29 of the Demolition Engineer magazine. M Ulyatt confirmed that the route to Chartered Engineer status is now available to members. This means that Members who achieve Chartership will be globally recognised for their expertise within our industry. Professor Ray Clarke from the Society of Environmental Engineers and IDE President Duncan Rudall proceeded to sign the agreement. 8. Resolution to Accept the Rules of the Institute No objections were raised; therefore the current Rules of the Institute were accepted. All in favour 9. AOB 1. T Quarmby asked the Council of Management a 3-part question: 1. As the aims of this Institute are to Foster and Promote the science of demolition engineering, can the council assure its members that it will indeed do that by whatever means are necessary and measured. 2. In doing this, can the council further assure its members that it will not simply be known as a forum in which its members meet at seminars, regional meetings and luncheons, but will provide a platform for much needed industry research in much the same way that other similar Institutions do. 3. Finally, assuming that such assurances are to be given, could the council consider appointing a sub-committee to invite, select and or promote from within, suitable research topics and or work to use the monies held by the Institute for the good of its members and the furtherment of the science of demolition engineering. In response to the questions posed, D Rudall replied yes to all three questions. H Button then proceeded to explain that in response to Question 1 the IDE have agreed to support the research and publication of industry guidance entitled Definition of Waste produced by the Building Research establishment. He confirmed that both the NFDC and IDE have agreed to actively pursue this project as a joint venture. As the legislation regarding waste management is not clear-cut H Button will be meeting with representatives from the Environment Agency to clarify the regulations and will be able to report back to members in approximately 6 months. 4

5 J Woodward proceeded to explain that in response to Question 2 the IDE had agreed in the Council of Management meeting, that same morning, to set-up a sub-committee to work with Wolverhampton University regarding the new MSc and BSc qualification in Demolition Engineering, commencing in September S Accleton concluded by explaining, in response to Question 3, that the IDE have agreed to support the Passion Youth Development Project which was launched in the House of Lords 2 weeks previous. This project will allow 10 young people a job opportunity for a 3 month period in the Demolition industry. IDE have agreed to sponsor the lead student for the following 12 months. Adrian McLean stated that, in his opinion, the IDE do not offer enough training or a specialist course programme to members. D Rudall replied that offering courses and training would not be an issue, however it was always left to the same individuals to organise and deliver the courses each time and that in general attendance on past courses had not been particularly good. He requested that members the IDE office with topics that they would wish to see delivered as a course. T Quarmby stated that a few years ago the IDE organised Roadshows which always offered a specific theme or a topic. D Rudall responded that these roadshows were now called Regional Meetings. A McLean stated that regional meetings required more technical presentations as there were some occasions where companies had used a regional meeting as an advertising platform for their own business. M Ulyatt stated that despite many requests it had been extremely difficult to obtain articles for the Demolition Engineer magazine, therefore attempting to source individuals willing to speak at an event was very difficult indeed. D Rudall requested that members put themselves forward to speak at an IDE event. John Harris informed members that more promotion of the Demolition industry in schools was needed. J Woodward confirmed that he visits schools as part of the Primary Futures initiative which encourages young people to show an interest in the industry. He suggested that members visit their local schools to talk to students and pupils. D Rudall confirmed that he had also visited 2 academies as part of a careers programme. He suggested that members who are interested in visiting their local schools should the IDE office with the details of their chosen school. The office will then contact the school to arrange for them to meet with the students. 2. Harry Ward asked the Council of Management if there had been any further development regarding the legislation and research into new hazards on construction sites. D Rudall confirmed that there had been no further information available at the moment; however, the IDE bursary students from Loughborough University have been involved in Nano-Technology Research and self-preparing concrete. 10. Election to the Council of Management D Rudall thanked all members who voted and the Electoral Reform Services for acting as scrutineers for the election. The election results are as follows: Stuart Accleton FIDE has been elected as Honorary Treasurer for a further 12 months The following were elected to the Council of Management: Howard Button FIDE John Wring MIDE Richard Dolman MIDE Members debated the Election process carried out by the Electoral Reform Services. Following a vote the majority voted to continue using the same process next year. 11. Date of next Annual General Meeting: November 2016 (tbc) 5
