12 Contributors THOMAS J. SUGRUE is a member of the History Department at the University of Pennsylvania. Educated at Columbia, King's College, Cambridge, and Harvard, he is an American social and political historian, specializing in the twentieth century. He spent the academic year as a Research Fellow at the Brookings Institution in Washington, D.C. MICHAEL N. MCCONNELL is Associate Professor of History at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. He received his Ph.D. from the College of William and Mary and is the author of the forthcoming book, A Country Between: The Upper Ohio Valley and its Peoples, , CARL B. LECHNER is Associate Professor in the Department of History, Gannon University. He received his Ph.D. from Case Western Reserve University and is the author of the forthcoming book Erie County: Pennsylvania's Link with the Great hakes.
