1 God s Word B ut there were also false prophets among the people, even as there will be false teachers among you, who will secretly bring in destructive heresies, even denying the Lord who bought them, and bring on themselves swift destruction. And many will follow their destructive ways, because of whom the way of truth will be blasphemed. By covetousness they will exploit you with deceptive words; for a long time their judgement has not been idle, and their destruction does not slumber. II Peter 2 (NKJV) 1 The Galilean A Little More What? I have written previously about songs that have inspired and encouraged me. But, this month allow me to have a radio rant. I need someone to explain to me what it means to Need a Little More Jesus? This song has a good beat, speaks of needing Jesus, relates a list of behaviors most of us possess...but what is needing more of Jesus? According to God s Word we either have Jesus or we do not. Either hot or cold; not lukewarm. No sitting on the fence. There are few things of this world over which we have total control. One of those things is what we allow into our spirit; including the lyrics to nonsense songs on gospel radio. Instead of spreading ignorance (leading folks astray) shouting the need for more of Someone Who should be totally within you; how about hitting your knees a little more, and stop broadcasting to the world (saved and unsaved) one s dysfunction and poor life choices. Keep in mind that this is my opinion. I, just like you, have the option to listen to or change the radio station. In this instance, I choose to change. We are commanded in the Bible to be wary of false teachings. I think this is giving listeners a false sense of what it means to have the Spirit of God. I think it would be more appropriate to say that Jesus needs a little more of us! He comes to us fully. He gives of Himself fully. He loves us fully. He puts up with us...fully. I have found that if I am to be critical of the big matters in my spiritual walk, I need to be just as critical of the seemingly insignificant matters also even what s disguised as Christ-centered music. Lifting my hands in total praise...i am

4 MUSINGS OF A SENIOR CITIZEN But I do not want you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning those who have fallen asleep, lest you sorrow as others who have no hope. (I Thessalonians 4:13) Life can change in the twinkling of an eye. What is familiar is gone. What is with us daily is gone. We are never fully prepared for these life changes. Oh, we know it is inevitable. We know that this flesh is perishable. But when that moment arrives, we realize that all rational thought is set aside. Grief takes its place. It is like the proverbial bottomless pit. I am so thankful for God s grace and mercy. He truly is an ever present help in times of trouble. He manifests Himself through His saints with visits, calls, and cards. Whenever the loneliness and quietness seem overwhelming, He sends someone to fill the void. I expected that there would be visitors in the days immediately after but, there have been so many people who have continued to reach out to our family. Words are inadequate to express my appreciation. I am also comforted by the many memories that I have. I remember the sermons I sat through that offer me such pleasant memories. The long talks we had during the final week as I sat on the side of the bed. We talked about the life we shared for thirty-three years and nine months. These discussions were filled with hope, joy, and love. We reminisced about all of the things that filled our lives. A life lived well. A life filled with joy in spite of the challenges that seemed ever-present in the last few years. We even had a few laughs as we discussed some of our misadventures. Yes, I mourn, but I also have the hope of resurrection in Jesus. During my daily communion with the savior, I can gather strength. I am renewed! Yes, I have a heavy heart, but I have joyful memories. I am surrounded by and immersed in love. Love never fails --MCBS, Columbia Baptist Church 4 The Galilean
