4 How Can I Serve? A frequent question asked of church members, How can I be involved at my church? It s a good question. but a better question may be, How can I be involved with my church? The choice of preposition is important because serving as a part of a local church does not necessarily mean serving at a location. People gather for worship and serve others when they gather at a local body, but all church ministry does not happen at the place the church meets. Ministry happens or should be happening wherever we are. You should see all of life as a chance to serve and minister to brothers and sisters and those who are not yet believing in Christ. Serving with a local church, or as a part of a local church, does not mean that a person has to have a job or position. The Bible is clear that we should have people who serve in positions of leadership and there are practical reasons for having structure and service opportunities. But, our organization of everything that is perceived to be ministry has produced the unintended result of making people feel like they need a position to do ministry and impact others. Here are some ideas: 1. Attend a Bible study regularly. Your consistent presence and interaction is an encouragement to your Bible study facilitator and your fellow Christians. Your consistent presence is a ministry. 2. Be an unofficial greeter. Every person who is a member should be a friendly face and greeter. Church should be the friendliest place on earth. 3. Invite people to have a meal at your home. Maybe invite someone who isn t in your inner circle. 4. Invite people to a worship gathering at church. A personal invitation to someone you have a relationship with is the best way to get people to come to church. 5. Pray. Everyone can pray for the local church. 6. As you go, live and tell the gospel of Jesus. Every believer, every disciple is to be an evangelist as they are going and where ever it is they go. Live like Jesus where you are and when people ask why you do what you do, tell them. Live like Jesus and tell others about Jesus. 7. Serve a little with a few. Surely there are needs in your church and in your neighborhood. Can you help someone mow their lawn? Can you pick up trash in your neighborhood? What can you do with one or two other people to serve others? It doesn t take a lot of planning and you don t need a lot of people, just serve others with others. These are simple and even obvious ideas to plant in the lives of the people. Positions of service and specific tasks are important, and positions of leadership are needed and important, but you should live and serve as Christians all of the time and in every place, even if they are away from the church building and don t have an official position. Every person who is in Christ and is a member of a local church ought to see themselves as erving as a part of the local church.

6 The Theory of Creation...is this how it all happened? God created the mule, and told him, "You will work constantly from dusk to dawn, carrying heavy loads on your back. You will eat grass and lack intelligence. You will live for 50 years." The mule answered, "To live like this for 50 years is too much. Please, give me no more than 20." And it was so. Then God created the dog, and told him, "You will hold vigilance over the dwellings of Man, to whom you will be his greatest companion. You will eat his table scraps and live for 25 years." And the dog responded, "Lord, to live 25 years as a dog like that is too much. Please, no more than 10 years." And it was so. God then created the monkey, and told him, "You are monkey. You shall swing from tree to tree, acting like an idiot. You will be funny, and you shall live for 20 years." And the monkey responded, "Lord, to live 20 years as the clown of the world is too much. Please, Lord, give me no more than 10 years." And it was so. Finally, God created Man and told him, "You are Man, the only rational being that walks the earth. You will use your intelligence to have mastery over the creatures of the world. You will dominate the earth and live for 20 years." And the man responded, "Lord, to be Man for only 20 years is too little. Please, Lord, give me the 30 years the mule refused, the 15 years the dog refused, and the 10 years the monkey rejected." And it was so. And so God made Man to live 20 years as a man, then marry and live 30 years like a mule working and carrying heavy loads on his back. Then, he is to have children and live 15 years as a dog, guarding his house and eating the leftovers after they empty the pantry; then, in his old age, to live 10 years as a monkey, acting like an idiot to amuse his grand children. Oh take, take and eat. Oh take, take and drink. This is my body, this is my blood. Oh eat of this bread and drink from this cup. This I have given for you. We are called to share this table of new life: Old and young, weak and strong. Come and eat, come and drink from the cup of life. Come and lift your voices, join the song. We are called to share the story of our lives: Rich and poor, blind and lame. Sharing together in mystery of life, As we gather here in Jesus name. We are called to share the journey of our lives: Rich and poor, blind and lame. Bringing our joys and hurts, our hopes and dreams. Though one body, we are many parts.

10 Thoughts for July 6, 2018 Love is within us. It cannot be destroyed. It can be ignored to the extent that we abandon love and we will feel it has abandoned us. Denying love is our only problem, and embracing it is the only answer. Through the power of love, we can let go of past history and begin again. Love A Little Humor A college student was in Philosophy class, where a class discussion about whether or not God exists was in progress. The professor had the following logic: "Has anyone in this class seen God?" Nobody spoke. heals, forgives, and makes whole. "Has anyone in this class touched God?" You will never be good enough for Again, nobody spoke. "Has anyone in this class ever heard God?" everybody, but you will always be the best for someone who really appreciates you. When nobody spoke for the third time, he simply stated, "Then there is no God!" Accept what is, let go of what was, and have faith in what will be. In the middle of every difficulty lies opportunity. Whether you ve just had another setback chasing your dreams, been rejected by someone you care about, faced tragedy, or you re just feeling drained from the ups and downs of this journey we call life, remember that things can turn around in an instant.
