JUST TAKE THE NEXT RIGHT STEP In the book by Regina Brett, God Never Blinks, there is a chapter titled, When in Doubt, Just Take the Next Right Step. She presents a life journeying strategy many have used: My life used to be like that game of freeze tag we played as kids. Once tagged, you had to freeze in the position you were in. Whenever something happened, I d freeze like a statue, too afraid of moving the wrong way, too afraid of making the wrong decision. The problem is, if you stand still too long, that s your decision. I know there have been times when I have felt stymied in making decisions, more than once from the fear of making the wrong decision. Should I go here or there, should I buy this or that, should I say this or is it better to say nothing at all such are the questions which make up life s journey. And as Brett suggests, making no decision at all is a decision. Churches are just like people, which makes sense because a church is people. Frequently, we find it hard to make a decision, or move forward toward a goal, out of fear of making the wrong decision. It might be too expensive, or the insurance might go up, or it might be too different or new or just not something done before. How exciting it was to have such a nice crowd.and the 18 or more different and delicious dishes to try! Thank everyone for joining us. Upcoming events were announced, as well as updates on those who are sick and have had surgery. Elaine presented our lesson on "Jesus teachings on women" it was a interesting lesson with much discussion It was nice to have Norm and Lucy back with us as well as Susan Rinehart. 1

Surprising to me was the deep level of interest our folks had including Pastor Richard and secretary Susan, who took time to come down and hear the rug hooking presentation. The rugs Kay has made over the years were simply amazing to us. Jane had our guests decoupage Prayer Boxes and told us the importance of keeping track of our prayer requests to God and recording them in this little box. Lovely, Jane! Thank you! Tyler chose to give his Prayer Box to his good friend Norm Harbour. What a tender heart beats in that young man's chest! When BINGO time came, Larry asked me what I did with the cage. It had disappeared! I was not the culprit and neither were the two likely ones who we thought would do such a trick, even though we accused them of hiding it. Larry had to apologize to Jim and Harold, when, of all people, that nice guy

4 Michael stepped forth to confess that it was he who had hidden the cage from sight. You never know about those nice quiet guys!!! For next month's Kentucky Derby Day, we will be visited by a live horse from Dream Catchers. I challenged all the ladies to make themselves a fancy Derby Day bonnet. I had fashioned a hat, using an old straw hat and some flowers I had around the house. It was my Easter bonnet for April and will become my Derby bonnet for May. I'm interested in seeing the creativity I know is in our midst. We had 28 folks with us, even with 3 out sick. 2 other guests were unable to attend, and Christy was out of town for work. We missed them. As we continue to grow, so do our blessings. This group is such a joy! Maybe you'd like to join us! Make yourself a Derby bonnet and come on May 9 at 10 AM. Love in Christ, ~Louise Smith WORLD OUTREACH NEWS: BLANKET THE WORLD WITH LOVE! Mother s Day comes in May! Let s buy blankets in memory or honor of loved ones and friends. A blanket is a special mission opportunity to assist people in need around the world. OBCC s compassion shows with each blanket donation. With our generosity, CWS can respond quickly in the aftermath disasters. With our help, CWS provides blankets and other emergency supplies to areas that are hard-hit. We are the hands of Christ through our actions, not only through our words. We are the feet of Christ through our commitment to helping others in need. I am thankful that our church family is these hands and feet through generous donations to the blanket program for CWS blanket Sunday. Order forms will be inserted in bulletins on Sunday, May 6 and Sunday, May 13 (Blanket Sunday). A list of donors will appear on Sunday, May 21. Jesus said, Where your treasure is, there your heart will be. With much need in this world, OBCC has once-again stepped up to contribute to the desperately-needed help. I am SO thankful! The congregation will be asked to consider the Board s recommendations for capital improvements and transportation. COMFORT MINISTRY SUPPORT GROUP meets the first Saturday of the month at the Five Brothers Steak and Pancake restaurant at 10 am for breakfast. Please call Judy Eley at if you would like to attend.
