1 Cancelations: Chapter XXIX Newsletter We have a new tool this year. If the Chapter has a meeting or event on the calendar and the weather becomes unsafe for travel we will cancel the event or meeting. Since many of our members travel one hour plus to attend SFA Chapter 29 events we feel that traveling in unsafe weather is very unwise. How will you know if we care canceling? Its easy, we will have the cancelation posted on Kansas City FOX 4 news channel under closing and it will also be posted on their web site at We will be listed under activities as Special Forces Assoc 29. You can also call if you are unable to receive FOX4 news or do not have a computer. Nothing we do is so important that we want you to risk injury to attend. SOF Formal: Special Forces Association Chapter XXIX Col. Arthur Bull Simon Memorial Chapter The Bull s Bullet March 26th, 2010 is the date of the SOF Formal / 30th Anniversary. Location will be the Embassy Suites North (KCI) NW Tiffany Springs Parkway KC MO If you would like to stay the night at the Hotel you will need to call the Hotel directly to make reservations We are listed under SOF Formal or SF Association Anniversary Ball. Rooms are $107 plus taxes. The rooms are suite style rooms and include a Free Managers Receptions ( 2 Drink Limit) and a cooked to order breakfast buffet. This year the SOF Formal will be a very special gathering. Not only will we once again be celebrating with the CGSC Students, but Special Forces Association Chapter 29 will be celebrating their 30th anniversary. We are planning a very special evening with the invitation of all our past presidents as well as other special organizations and individuals. 2 Page Chapter Holiday Gathering This years Holiday Gathering was held at Ron and Barb Simmons home in Prairie Village KS. Thanks Ron and Barb. The turn out was great and the food was even better. Unfortunately several member were unable to attend because of other family obligations. Ladies we are getting to be just like the men. How fast can we turn our backs to the camera? Hope everyone has a great Holiday and a safe winter. Slow News Day: As you can see December has been a slow news month. If you have any news about a chapter member or something you feel would be of interest to chapter members send it to the newsletter. We do try to stay neutral when it comes to politics and religion. There just isn t enough space and time to start printing all sides of a story. If you have traveled to warmer weather for the winter let us know what s going on there. If you get called up to teach something like Rich Kiper did, let us know what your doing. We have several visiting Special Forces Association members from other chapter attending CGSC school. We would love to hear from them about what s going on in the home chapter or even what they are doing here at Fort Leavenworth. You are one big brotherhood, lets find out what others are doing. 3 Page 3 GREATER KANSAS CITY CHAPTER ASSOCIATION OF THE UNITED STATES ARMY PO Box 27250, Overland Park, KS December 18, 2009 Special Luncheon Engagement Iraq and Afghanistan Geo-Political Forum Paneled by Students and Faculty, US Army Command and General Staff College January 12, 2010 A panel consisting of Army Special Forces, Navy, USMC officers and two members of the CGSC Faculty will entertain questions and discuss the Military Geo-Political environment experienced by our military forces in the Southwest Asian nations of Iraq and Afghanistan. The Association of the United States Army is partnering with the hosting organization, the Association of Naval Aviators to bring you this forum. Others joining the coalition audience are, BENS, Navy League, and the USMC Globe and Anchor Society. PLEASE RSVP NOW. To establish a cohesive meeting environment we plan to cap the audience at 80 attendees so you should register early to assure a seat. 4 Page 4 Convention 2010: the 2010 SFA Convention will be at Fayetteville NC. It starts June 7th (Monday) with a tour of the Airborne & Special Operations Museum. Tour of Camp MacKall on Tuesday, ladies day with shopping on Wednesday, golf on Thursday, Picnic at the SFA Memorial Grounds on Friday and the Banquet on Saturday. The hosting Hotel will be the Holiday Inn on I-95 at Cedar Creek Road. Hotels in the area are the Holiday Inn , Comfort Inn , Hampton Inn , Econo Lodge , Quality Inn , Country Hearth , Red Roof Inn and Travelers Inn National Association is not recommending you use the Double Tree Inn since they are refusing to cooperate with the convention. This convention always has a huge turnout, so you should make your reservations as soon as possible. Please check your Fall DROP for more details. Make sure your membership is current so you will be able to attend the Convention in Fayetteville/Ft Bragg NC

5 Page 5 Chapter Member Directories: We will be publishing a member directory in February. For those who are annual members you need to have your membership in on time or you risk not be included in the directory or receiving one. Ad Space: We will be sending out the billings for the Ad Space many of you have rented in the newsletter and directory later in December. We are also open to new Ads. A business card Ad is $25 for the year. Larger Ads please contact the newsletter for pricing or sfa29newsletter@gmail.com. We need more Ads to help defer the cost of printing the newsletter. SFA Chapter 29 Polo Shirts: We are now taking orders for Chapter Polo Shirts. You will find a order form online at our web site sfa29.org. The shirts are Black or Army Green with the Association and Chapter logo on it. You may also personalize you shirt with you first name or years of service. You can also purchase a second shirt for your wife. The shirts are $34.50 each including shipping. Please make checks payable to Stewart Hink and mail the order form to SFA 29, Bridlespur Dr KC MO Color choice is green or black. Sizes are M L XL XXL. If you would like your nick name or years of service on the shirt please let us know what that is. Special Forces Association Memberships: Its renewal time again. There are still 19 members who have not yet renewed their memberships. Please send in your renewal a.s.a.p. so that you don t miss out on anything including the 2010 convention. Just remember you need to have the renewal to use before December 31st or your late. Medically Challenged Members and Family Jackie, President Jack Smiths daughter has had a set back in her illness. She is currently undergoing new treatment in Tulsa OK. So everyone lets get together and put her back in your prayers. It s worked in the past with not only Jackie but other chapter members. Membership renewal time. Sfa29.org Return Service Requested Just For Laughs Raytown, Mo - Child Challenges Courts in Custody Battle due to abuse News Article Justice in Jackson County Jackson County, MO (AP) - A seven-year old boy was at the center of a Jackson County courtroom drama yesterday when he challenged a court ruling over who should have custody of him. The boy has a history of being beaten by his parents and the judge initially awarded custody to his aunt, in keeping with child custody law and regulation requiring that family unity be maintained to the highest degree possible. The boy surprised the court when he proclaimed that his aunt beat him more than his parents and he adamantly refused to live with her. When the judge then suggested that he live with his grandparents, the boy cried and said that they also beat him. After considering the remainder of the immediate family and learning that domestic violence was apparently a way of life among them, the judge took the unprecedented step of allowing the boy to propose who should have custody of him. After two recesses to check legal references and confer with the child welfare officials, the judge granted temporary custody to the Kansas City Chiefs Football Team, whom the boy firmly believes are not capable of beating anyone.
