Through the first quarter of 2010, the financial support of our ministry is good. We appreciate so much the dedicated giving of tithes and offerings to the Lord s work. We are making a difference in the lives of people, and your gifts are helping us do that! Through the first quarter we have received 26% of our budget and spent 25%, so for the year we are slightly ahead (about $20,000). However, part of that overage is due to folks who prepay the whole year in December or January, so we re actually breaking even. With the summer months coming up, we need to remember to be consistent in our support of the church, even when vacations and activities take us away from church on Sunday morning. In the Holy Ground Fund, we are nearly two-thirds of the way through our campaign (May 2008 May 2011). We have received about 64% of our pledges. The major projects have been completed, and because of some savings, we have been able to do some other small capital improvement projects. Recently, we applied $200,000 to our debt, reducing it to under $700,000. So we are on track with Holy Ground. Detailed reports of our Ministry Fund or Holy Ground Fund are available from Lisa Humphreys. Thanks again for your faithful support of your church! Dr. Ron Hall, rhall@fumchs.com Ext. 118 Many thanks go to all who were involved with our Holy Week / Easter traditional service music ministry. First of all, let me thank Mike Lovelady for his work in putting together the music for the Maundy Thursday service. Thanks, also, to the Chancel Choir for working so diligently to provide the wonderful anthems sung throughout the week. Your beautiful sound was matched by the emotion you presented to the congregation thank you so much for sharing your heart with us as you sang! Thanks to Bill Skaggs, Tommy Nichols, Tina Seel, and Corinne Gooch for the solos and duets presented: each one helped present the story of the events of Jesus passion and resurrection in such a memorable way. There were so many others who helped make the week s presentations so meaningful. To Mary Marshall (Tina Seel s mother) and Amie Hill thanks for your woodwind accompaniment on two of our anthems. Thanks to our Celebration and Jubilation! handbell members for the accompaniment on our Palm Sunday anthem Everyone Sing to the King! and for setting our focus on the light of Jesus during the prelude! Special thanks to Lynne Crow and Rick Warren for the superb playing throughout the week on piano and organ, and to Bob Adams for being there for our sound reinforcement. If I have missed saying thank you to any of our church members, please forgive. But I am so grateful to all who gave of themselves so that our music ministry could best support the story of Jesus triumphal entry into Jerusalem, his passion, death, and glorious resurrection! ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ Our youth ensemble Audience of One is planning to take their second tour this June. In an effort to raise money for this tour, they will be selling roses for Mothers Day soon. Please help them out by purchasing your roses from them. More information about this is forthcoming. -Dr. Ron

3 I had a great weekend. No, I wasn t on vacation; I wasn t taking a golf excursion; I wasn t lying on a beach somewhere. I spent the whole weekend engaged in ministry. Saturday we had a retreat for our confirmation class. It lasted overnight, but I came home so I could preach on Sunday. I had such a good day with our young people and their parents. They are great kids wellbehaved, thoughtful, engaged in the process. It was a joy to be around them. Next Sunday, we will receive eighteen young people into membership by profession of faith. I am so proud of them, and I know you will want to come and support them and their families as they mark this momentous day. It is such a joy to be in a church that has strong children s and youth ministries. So many churches don t any more. But under the leadership of Michelle Wilkins with our children and Bill Skaggs with our youth and Mike Lovelady and Ron Hall with our music programs, we are ministering to more youth and children now than we were when I arrived four years ago. It s different than it used to be, because much of our ministry with both groups takes place outside of Sunday morning. It has to be, because the families do other things on the weekend; it s a condition of our culture. But the strength of the program is there, and we are making a difference in the lives of a bunch of kids and teenagers. (Come see evidence of that this Wednesday at our children s spring music program!) Sunday morning, of course, is always the highlight of my week, the focal point of my ministry. I hope you will take advantage of the Grand Slam emphasis going on right now and invite someone to experience God in our church. He is in the house at all three of our worship services for those who seek him. Then Sunday night, our Board of Stewards launched into a long-term conversation about the future of our church and the denomination in Arkansas. It was hard to digest information and react in such a short time, but at least it laid some issues on the table and started us thinking. The conversation will continue, and I believe ultimately the church will be better for it. After two long days, I am still jazzed about the ministry of Jesus Christ. I am excited about the church and its future. I am confident that even though we are living through a time of cataclysmic change, God will bless us if we pay more attention to his will than to our wants. But I am kinda tired, so I m going home See you next Sunday (or during the week!), Bro. Bud SUMMER SERMONS AND SONGS BY REQUEST This summer, Brother Bud is going to do something he has never done let the congregation pick the sermons he preaches! Between now and the first Sunday of May, requests may be made for sermon topics or themes or particular Scriptures that you would like to hear a sermon address. In addition, we will let you suggest favorite hymns you would like to sing during the summer. Summer worship is more relaxed and informal, and it is a perfect time to deal with some issues that are on the hearts and minds of people. The request forms will be available in church, or you can themes, topics, Scripture texts to brobud@fumchs.com. Favorite hymns will be requested on the form, or may be ed to Dr. Ron Hall at rhall@fumchs.com. Requests must be made by May 2, to allow time to pray over, sift through, and prepare the messages Deaseree Cole (with Joe Bob and Nancy Garner) Walt and Christie Eddlemon Joe & Shari Van Houten & Tessa Hamilton and Sandy Thomas Bailey and Bevin Maria Barbara Muller

4 DO YOU HAVE A WEDDING PHOTO? The History Committee is looking for wedding pictures of members that were married in our church. We are hoping to find pictures from our present church as well as our previous churches. We would like to make copies for a display during our 2015 Centennial Celebration. If you have pictures, please call me, or leave them in the church office. Thanks, Joyce Thornton SAVE THE DATE! Bro. Bud and Karen Reeves are planning on leading another trip to the Holy Land, departing March 23, If you are interested, save the date, start saving your travel bucks, and join us for the trip of a lifetime. If you know you would like to go, you can contact Bo. Bud for brochures and info. JACKSON HOUSE FOOD SUNDAY IS MAY 2 nd! The first Sunday of the month is upon us! Please help us keep the pantry at the Jackson House STOCKED! Leave the food in the Jackson House Box in your Sunday school classroom or in the specially marked box outside the elevator on the atrium level. PRAYER WALL IN THE CHRISTIAN LIFE CENTER The Intercessory Prayer Team has provided a prayer wall under the stairs in the CLC. They encourage all to utilize according to your needs. Prayer concerns my be left in the box, and the Intercessory Prayer Team will pray for your needs. And like Jesus in the Garden of Gethsemane, you may kneel behind the stairs for a time of quiet prayer. Special thanks to Lara Hackney for setting up the prayer wall. Teresa Holt, disciple@fumchs.com Ext. 116 SUNDAY IN THE PARK, MAY 16, 2:00 6:00 P.M. CEDAR GLADES PARK The Family Life and Children s Council is sponsoring an outreach event with Cedar Glades Park on Sunday, May 16 th. Cedar Glades is a county park with access to many outdoor activities. To sponsor an outreach event this large, we need as many people to help as possible. We will be providing the free food, music, golf cart transportation for those who can t walk long distances, food drive for community charities, and information about our church. We will need small groups and individuals to be ambassadors (wear their name tag) and be at one of the following locations: BMX Trail, Hiking Trails, Remote Controlled Aircraft Field, Tree House, Amphitheater, Pavilion, Climbing Wall, and Disc Golf. We need volunteers to make and serve the food (shifts of 12:00-2:00, 2:00 4:00, 4:00 6:00, 6:00 7:00 p.m.). We need donations of food to be brought to the welcome center: chips and cookies. We need donations of money to help us buy the hotdogs, soft drinks, paper goods, etc. We need golf carts and drivers to help transport individuals from the parking to the main pavilion and amphitheater. You are encouraged to bring a canned good for our food drive. Cedar Glades Park will provide the park to us at no charge, have the different clubs that participate in the park (RC Aircraft, Climbing Wall, etc.) to provide demonstrations and will advertise through as many avenues as possible. As well as being an outreach event, we also want families to come out enjoy the music, food, and outdoor activities. Contact Teresa Holt or Michelle Wilkins for more information or to volunteer ( ) or go to our website and click on Sunday in the Park to volunteer online! SENIOR GIRLS GRAND FINALE BEGINS THIS SUNDAY, APRIL 25 th, 10:45 A.M., CLC 211 Susan Bean is leading a four week class Scouting the Divine for Senior Girls beginning this Sunday. The study was developed by Margaret Feinberg (a writer in her 20 s) as she visited a Shepherdess, Bee Keeper, Farmer and Vintner (wine maker) so that she could more fully understand God as presented in illustrations in the Bible. For more information, contact Susan Bean at susan@hshf.net, Bill Skaggs or Teresa Holt. WHAT ABOUT DIVINE HEALING The Saints and Sinners Class are studying healing utilizing the book What about Divine Healing. Divine healing occurs in many ways, often in ways we do not imagine. "It matters that we engage in this hard work (of study and questioning)," Vogel writes, "because God's people seek healing and do not agree about what healing means. We ache for wholeness in our bodies and in our relationships, and we are not sure what it looks like, what it feels like, what it is. All of us yearn to know where to look for sources of healing, and we hear conflicting directions that promise to guide us." The class meets on Sundays, 9:45 a.m. in the Education Building, room 206.
