1 Bear Facts Newsletter February 22, 2018 A Note from Principal Peggy Parsley Our Spring Parent Teacher Conferences will be held on Wednesday, February 28, from 4-6 pm, and again on Thursday, March 1, from 4-6 pm. There will be no school on Friday, March 2. You should have received a Sign Up Genius invitation from your classroom teacher. Please remember that you can request a conference with your child's teacher even if they didn't request one. With conferences on the horizon, I wanted to take a minute to remind everyone about our process used for tentative student placement in May. Please do not share with your current teacher at conferences your requests as this puts teachers in an awkward position. In making class assignments, we use a number of criteria to guide our decisions. We will balance classes based on academics, gender, specific needs, and matching of students' and teachers' personalities and styles. Our process includes classroom teachers, specials teachers, and other staff at Bear Creek. Careful consideration is given and a team collectively views each placement to ensure the success of all students. While I do not take requests for specific teachers, I value you as a partner in the placement of your child. If there is information that is important in your child's class placement that we should be aware of, you are encouraged to describe your child's specific needs or considerations in a letter to me prior to May 2. We will not know our staffing/class sections for next year until mid-april and even then, those are subject to change based on enrollment. If you have not returned your "pink sheet indicating your enrollment for next year, please do so as soon as possible. Bear Creek had many participants in the recently held 12th Annual District Chess Tournament! Among the top finishers were: Christopher P. (3rd grade), Kate G. (4th grade), Daniel B. and Cole A. (5th grade). Evan B. won second place in 6th grade! CONGRATULATIONS! A BIG BEAR CREEK THANK YOU for participating in our BCES GIVE BACK NIGHTS! Because of your involvement, Texas Roadhouse presented our school with a check for $282, and Dog Haus awarded us with $107! We would like to welcome Brynn Burda to Bear Creek as our Preschool Assistant Group Leader. Brynn has lived in Colorado Springs her entire life. She enjoys hiking with her dog and traveling. Danielle RIshavy is new to Bear Creek Elementary this year as the teacher in the Significant Support Needs (SSN) classroom. She has lived in Colorado Springs her whole life. Ms. Rishavy began her career teaching middle school for five years in ASD20. She started at LPMS in the fall of 2017 and transferred to BCES in January of When she is not teaching, Ms. Rishavy loves running, working out, reading, and spending time with her family.
