SUPPORTING GOD S WORK FINANCIALLY The following is an excerpt from the statement made in the Church Covenant in the second paragraph, which states: We engage therefore, by the aid of the Holy Spirit, to walk together in Christian love; to strive for the advancement of this church,... to promote its prosperity;... to contribute cheerfully and regularly to the support of the ministry, the expense of the church, the relief of the poor, and the spread of the Gospel through all nations. The word Tithe means, along with other things: To pay or give a tenth part of, esp. for the support of the church. (Web. 7 th New Collegiate Dictionary. PP Financial Growth is always a blessing to God s people. This can grow only as people are taught to give to God s work as the Bible teaches them to give. God commanded the Israelites of old to tithe their possessions. This would support all of God s work. The New Testament Church was not given a law of this nature but God loves to see His children love Him enough to give from the heart. Tithing had its beginning with Abraham. Genesis 14:20 And blessed be the most high God, who has delivered your enemies into your hand. And he gave him tithes of all. Abraham taught his children to tithe. Jacob practiced it. Genesis 28:22 And this stone, which I have set for a pillar, shall be God's house: and of all that you shall give me I will surely give the tenth unto you. Tithing was commanded to Israel in the Law. Leviticus 27:30-32 And all the tithe of the land, whether of the seed of the land, or of the fruit of the tree, is the LORD'S: it is holy unto the LORD. And if a man will at all redeem any of his tithes, he shall add to it the fifth part thereof. And concerning the tithe of the herd, or of the flock, even of whatsoever passes under the rod, the tenth shall be holy unto the LORD. Tithing was to support the ministry. Numbers 18:21 And, behold, I have given the children of Levi all the tenth in Israel for an inheritance, for their service which they serve, even the service of the tabernacle of meeting Among the children of Israel they have no inheritance. 24But the tithes of the children of Israel, which they offer as a heave offering unto the LORD, I have given to the Levites to inherit: therefore I have said unto them, Among the children of Israel they shall have no inheritance. Deuteronomy 14:29 And the Levite, (because he has no part nor inheritance with you,) and the stranger, and the fatherless, and the widow, who are within your gates, shall come, and shall eat and be satisfied; that the LORD your God may bless you in all the work of your hand you do. 1

2 Tithing supports the ministry and all work of the New Testament Churches 1 Cor. 16:1-2 Now concerning the collection for the saints, as I have given order to the churches of Galatia, even so do you. Upon the first day of the week let every one of you lay by him in store, as God has prospered him, that there be no gatherings when I come. 2 Corinthians 8:7 Therefore, as you abound in everything, in faith, and utterance, and knowledge, and in all diligence, and in your love to us, see that you abound in this grace also. 2 Corinthians 8:11 Now therefore perform the doing of it; that as there was a readiness to will, so there may be a performance also out of that which you have. 2 Corinthians 8:15 As it is written, He that had gathered much had nothing over; and he that had gathered little had no lack. 2 Cor. 9:6-15 But this I say, He who sows sparingly shall reap also sparingly; and he who sows bountifully shall reap also bountifully. Every man according as he purposes in his heart, so let him give; not grudgingly, or of necessity: for God loves a cheerful giver. And God is able to make all grace abound toward you; that you, always having all sufficiency in all things, may abound to every good work: (As it is written, He has dispersed abroad; he has given to the poor: his righteousness remains forever. Now he that ministers seed to the sower both minister bread for your food, and multiply your seed sown, and increase the fruits of your righteousness;) Being enriched in everything to all bountifulness, who causes through us thanksgiving to God. For the administration of this service not only supplies the need of the saints, but is abundant also by many thanksgivings unto God; While by the proof of this ministry they glorify God for your professed subjection unto the gospel of Christ, and for your liberal distribution unto them, and unto all men; And by their prayer for you, who long after you for the exceeding grace of God in you. Thanks be unto God for his unspeakable gift. Although the New Testament Christians are not commanded by law to tithe, God will accept a tithe from all who give it willingly. Hebrews 7:8 And here men that die receive tithes; but there he receives them, of whom it is witnessed that he lives. Jesus lives and He will receive the tithe from all who will give it willingly from the heart. These Scriptures teach us to give to God s work and He will abundantly bless us in return. ANNOUNCING NEW BOOK BY YOUR EDITOR COMMENTARY ON THE BOOK OF REVELATION It was about two years back when we were studying the Book of Revelation in Church. We moved our mid-week services to Tuesday evenings and mailed invitations to the churches in all our surrounding towns. We had visitors from at least 10 churches in these studies. Some of these have continued studying with us until the present. To enhance the study I wrote a commentary on each chapter and made copies for everyone in the class. We were on this study for over a year. When we had finished we had a complete written commentary on the Book of Revelation. My intentions were to proof and edit all of it and have it published. I got so busy in other studies that this was laid aside and it just seemed that I could not get back to it. We studied the Book of Daniel the same way. I ll get back to it and publish it also. The Revelation commentary is in its last stage of proofing and will go to the publisher, I hope by the time you read this. Copies can be obtained by ordering from web page on page 8. TESTIMONY OF THE MONTH I m always asking for testimonies from you out there to share with all our readers of the MMM. We had a great one last month. by Carolyn Cate of Little Rock, Arkansas. Don t have one for this month, but looking back through issues from about seven years ago I came across one that I would like to share again. It s a little different. This also goes well with our main thoughts last month of Getting Back to Basics. In that one I gave the plan of salvation as described by the Roman Road. This one from an anonymous person follows that same plan. He, or she said... Hello: We may never meet, but I would like to tell you about my Jesus! This is the ROMAN ROAD TO SALVATION Romans 3:23 For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God. Romans 5:12 Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned: All will die! Hebrews 9:27 And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment: Why? John 3:18 He that believes on him is not condemned: but he that believes not is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. Man s choice: Work for the devil, receive payment (wages) of death or accept God s gift of life. 3

4 Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. Do you know you need to be saved? Do you know you are a sinner? Do you know HOW to be saved? Please let me show you how by using God s word, not just what I believe or think but what God says. Romans 5:8 But God commends his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. Would you be saved if you knew how? Ephesians 2:8-10 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast. For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God has before ordained that we should walk in them. Romans 10:9 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. Will you do what the Bible says? Romans 10:10-13 For with the heart man believes unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. For the scripture says, Whosoever believes on him shall not be ashamed. For there is no difference between the Jew and the Greek: for the same Lord over all is rich unto all that call upon him. FOR WHOSOEVER SHALL CALL UPON THE NAME OF THE LORD SHALL BE SAVED. Do you believe God will do what he says? Then ask him! Here is an example: Luke 18:9-14 And he spoke this parable unto certain who trusted in themselves that they were righteous, and despised others: Two men went up into the temple to pray; the one a Pharisee, and the other a tax collector. The Pharisee stood and prayed thus with himself, God, I thank you, that I am not as other men are, extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even as this tax collector. I fast twice in the week, I give tithes of all that I possess. And the tax collector, standing afar off, would not lift up so much as his eyes unto heaven, but smote upon his breast, saying, God be merciful to me a sinner. I tell you, this man went down to his house justified rather than the other: for everyone that exalts himself shall be abased; and he that humbles himself shall be exalted. Do you believe Jesus died for you? John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believes in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. He will save you if you will believe. John 1:12 But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name: No one ever loved you more than Jesus. John 15:13 Greater love has no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends. Romans 5:7-8 For scarcely for a righteous man will one die: yet peradventure for a good man some would even dare to die. But God commends his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, CHRIST DIED FOR US. Do not say to yourself later not now. It s not the right time. 2 Corinthians 6:2 (For he said, I have heard you in a time accepted, and in the day of salvation have I helped you: behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation.) Do not say to yourself I ve got plenty of time. Proverbs 27:1 Boast not yourself of tomorrow; for you know not what a day may bring forth. Why not be saved now! Today! My prayer is that you will be saved now as you read this. I am praying for you now as I write I m praying for any and all who may in the future read this. May you accept Jesus Christ as your 4

5 Savior, and you will have God as a loving heavenly father and will be with them forever in eternity! PERSONAL TESTIMONY If you miss knowing me, you will have missed nothing! If you miss knowing my Savior, you will have missed everything. May God Bless You! Editor s note The above was left in an envelope at the information booth in the church. I don t know who the person is. It really doesn t matter. It surely presents the plan of God s salvation. The writer has shared what one must do to be saved. We may never know the person who submitted it. But as he or she stated: You will have missed nothing. (I think we will miss something). EARTHQUAKES In the Bible there is a record of five (5) earthquakes that happened before the Bible was complete. Then there is a prophecy that many more earthquakes will happen as signs of the Second Coming of Christ. There is also a prophecy of a final earthquake to come that will be mightier and more devastating than any that has ever happened. Read about them in the following scriptures. 1. Num. 16: Amos 1:1. Zech. 14:5 3. Matt. 27: Matt. 28: Acts 16:25-26 Prophecy of signs of Second Coming. Matt. 24:3-7. Prophecy of the Big One. Joel 2: Rev. 16:17-21 The first earthquake was when the Earth opened up and swallowed Korah and those who followed him against Moses. Num. 16:1-33 Note verses But if the LORD makes a new thing, and the earth opens its mouth, and swallows them up, with all that belongs unto them, and they go down alive into the pit; then you shall understand that these men have provoked the LORD. And it came to pass, as he had made an end of speaking all these words, that the ground split asunder that was under them: And the earth opened its mouth, and swallowed them up, and their households, and all the men that belonged unto Korah, and all their goods. They, and all that belonged to them, went down alive into the pit, and the earth closed upon them: and they perished from among the congregation. This was during the 40 years of wandering in the wilderness P.A. (A Biblical Chronology of Man, P. 8. By: this editor). Moses called the earthquake A New Thing at that time. The second Earthquake was two years before the Prophet Amos began his prophecy during the reign of King Uzziah. King Uzziah ruled from P.A. ). (A Biblical Chronology of Man, P. 10. By: this editor). This earthquake was referred to by Amos, (1:1) and Zechariah, (14:5). Amos 1:1 The words of Amos, who was among 5

6 the herdmen of Tekoa, which he saw concerning Israel in the days of Uzziah king of Judah, and in the days of Jeroboam the son of Joash king of Israel, two years before the earthquake. Zechariah 14:5 And you shall flee to the valley of the mountains; for the valley of the mountains shall reach unto Azal: yea, you shall flee, like as you fled from before the earthquake in the days of Uzziah king of Judah: and the LORD my God shall come, and all the saints with him. As Zachariah refers to the earthquake during the days of King Uzziah, he is also prophesying of the coming of Christ in glory when He will set up His millennial kingdom. The third earthquake happened at the time of the crucifixion of Christ at the moment He died. Matthew 27:50-51 Jesus, when he had cried again with a loud voice, yielded up his spirit. And, behold, the veil of the temple was torn in two from the top to the bottom; and the earth did quake, and the rocks were split; When Jesus died on the cross for the atonement of our sins, God sent an earthquake to tear the veil of the temple and open the way for every person to approach God for himself rather than having a priest intercede for him. 1 Timothy 2:5 For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus; You can approach God yourself and repent of your sins and ask for His salvation. Hebrews 4:16 Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need. The fourth earthquake happened at the time of the resurrection of Christ. Matthew 28:1-8 At the end of the sabbath, as it began to dawn toward the first day of the week, came Mary Magdalene and the other Mary to see the sepulcher. And, behold, there was a great earthquake: for the angel of the Lord descended from heaven, and came and rolled back the stone from the door, and sat upon it. His countenance was like lightning, and his clothing white as snow: And for fear of him the guards did shake, and became as dead men. And the angel answered and said unto the women, Fear not: for I know that you seek Jesus, who was crucified. He is not here: for he is risen, as he said. Come, see the place where the Lord lay. And go quickly, and tell his disciples that he is risen from the dead; and, behold, he goes before you into Galilee; there shall you see him: lo, I have told you. And they departed quickly from the sepulcher with fear and great joy; and did run to bring his disciples word. This completed God s glorious plan of salvation for all who will believe and accept it. This is the good news the churches have been preaching for near 2000 years, that you can be saved if you will believe that. 1 Corinthians 15:1-8 Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also you have received, and in which you stand; By which also you are saved, if you keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless you have believed in vain. For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures: And that he was seen of Cephas, then of the twelve: After that, he was seen of over five hundred brethren at once; of whom the greater part remain until now, but some are fallen asleep. After that, he was seen of James; then of all the apostles. And last of all he was seen of me also (Paul), as of one untimely born. Timothy 1:15 This is a faithful saying, and worthy of all acceptance, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners; of whom I am chief. The fifth earthquake This one happened in the city of Philippi when Paul and Silas were released by the Lord from prison. Acts 16:25-26 And at midnight Paul and Silas 6

7 prayed, and sang praises unto God: and the prisoners heard them. And suddenly there was a great earthquake, so that the foundations of the prison were shaken: and immediately all the doors were opened, and every one's bands were loosed. God used the result of this earthquake to get the gospel to the jailer and all his house. The record of it has no doubt helped many people to be saved over the years as they read about it in the Bible. The prophecy of earthquakes as a sign of the Second Coming of Christ was given by Jesus. Matthew 24:3-7 And as he sat upon the mount of Olives, the disciples came unto him privately, saying, Tell us, when shall these things be? and what shall be the sign of your coming, and of the end of the world? And Jesus answered and said unto them, Take heed that no man deceive you. For many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ; and shall deceive many. And you shall hear of wars and rumors of wars: see that you be not troubled: for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet. For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and there shall be famines, and pestilences, and earthquakes, in various places. The prophecy of the final and big one is given in Joel 2: & Rev. 16: Joel 2:10-11 The earth shall quake before them; the heavens shall tremble: the sun and the moon shall be dark, and the stars shall withdraw their shining: And the LORD shall utter his voice before his army: for his camp is very great: for he is strong that executes his word: for the day of the LORD is great and very terrible; and who can endure it? the throne, saying, It is done. And there were voices, and thunders, and lightnings; and there was a great earthquake, such as was not since men were upon the earth, so mighty an earthquake, and so great. And the great city was divided into three parts, and the cities of the nations fell: and great Babylon came in remembrance before God, to give unto her the cup of the wine of the fierceness of his wrath. And every island fled away, and the mountains were not found. And there fell upon men a great hail out of heaven, every stone about the weight of a talent: and men blasphemed God because of the plague of the hail; for the plague thereof was exceedingly great. So, this one will be after Jesus comes and raptures out the saved ones. It will be near the end of the great tribulation period as described in the Book of Revelation. This will be the 7th of the seven last plagues that God will pour out on the earth during the Great Tribulation Period. God will be finished pleading with sinful mankind on the earth at the time of this earthquake. During this time there will be volcanoes and earthquakes all over the world that will prepare the world for the coming of Christ in glory. At that time the Battle of Armageddon will be raging and Jesus will bring it to an end. He will set up His kingdom on earth and will rule for 1000 years. Our safe passage from this terrible event is to trust in Jesus and be ready for His coming. Are you ready at this time? May God bless.
