The Monthly Mission Messenger is available on site with all other materials written by Pastor Matlock. A BIBLICAL CHRONOLOGY OF MAN Cont. Last month we came to the time that Esau was going to kill Jacob for stealing his blessing from his father Isaac (Gen. 27:41). Rebecca learned of this and made arrangements with Isaac to send Jacob away to her brother s place in Haran (Gen. 27:42-43). Gen. 29:1-14. Jacob arrives in Haran to his uncle Laban s place. Gen. 29:15-26 And Laban said unto Jacob, Because you are my brother, should you therefore serve me for nothing? tell me, what shall your wages be? Here Laban offers Jacob the opportunity to work for him while he is there with them. 16. And Laban had two daughters: the name of the elder was Leah, and the name of the younger was Rachel. 17. Leah was tender eyed; but Rachel was beautiful and well favored. 18. And Jacob loved Rachel; and said, I will serve you seven years for Rachel your younger daughter. Jacob had a Love at first sight for Rachel. He makes Uncle Laban an offer of seven years labor for her. 19. And Laban said, It is better that I give her to you, than that I should give her to another man: abide with me. Laban agrees to the terms of Jacob. 20. And Jacob served seven years for Rachel; and they seemed unto him but a few days, for the love he had for her. 21. And Jacob said unto Laban, Give me my wife, for my days are fulfilled, that I may go in unto her. 22. And Laban gathered together all the men of the place, and made a feast. 23. And it came to pass in the evening, that he took Leah his daughter, and brought her to him; and he went in unto her. 24. And Laban gave unto his daughter Leah Zilpah his maid for a handmaid. 25. And it came to pass, that in the morning, behold, it was Leah: and he said to Laban, What is this you have done unto me? did not I serve with you for Rachel? Why then have you deceived me? 26. And Laban said, It must not be so done in our country, to give the younger before the firstborn. Laban deceived Jacob and gave him the oldest daughter, Leah. Jacob was angry but he accepted the custom of the land. At this point in our study let s figure a little more of the chronological time-line by asking the question: 1

HOW OLD WAS JACOB WHEN HE GOT MARRIED? To find the answer to this question we must have a beginning point from which to figure. We have figured the time between Adam and the flood of Noah to be 1,656 years. Refer to your Aug, 2015 issue of the MMM. Or Refer to the chart on page 3 of the book: A Biblical Chronology of Man (If you do not have this study it can be obtained on line at in Publications ). Then note the other dates on the chart from the flood to Abraham. Jacob s birth-date was 2168 P.A. Abraham s birth-date was 2008 P.A. That s a difference of 160 years This figure is in harmony with Abraham and Isaac s birthdates. Abraham was 100 years old when Isaac was born (Gen. 21:5). Isaac was 60 years old when Jacob was born (Gen. 25:26). That s 160 years. God doesn t make any mistakes. So, how old was Jacob when he got married? We must go to the date of his death and figure backward for the dates of events in his life. He died at the age of 147 years. Genesis 47:28 And Jacob lived in the land of Egypt seventeen years: so the whole age of Jacob was a hundred forty and seven years. Died P.A. Born P.A. Age at death. The Post Adam (PA.) date established for the Exodus is listed in the study guide mentioned above to be 2513 PA = the date established for the Exodus = the date Jacob died. (Date taken from chart). 198 = years from Jacob's death to the Exodus. This is how long the Israelites lived in Egypt after Jacob died. +17 = the years Jacob lived in Egypt. (Gen. 47:28). 215 = the total number of years the Israelites lived in Egypt. (This is 1/2 of the sojourning time mentioned in Gal. 3:17 & Ex. 12:40). The other 215 Yrs. were spent in the land of Canaan from the date of the promise to Abraham in 2083 until Jacob went down to Egypt in = Date of Jacob's death = the years Jacob lived in Egypt (Gen.47:28) = The PA date Jacob came to Egypt. 147 = Jacob's age at his death (Gen. 47:28). -17 = the years he lived in Egypt (Gen. 47:28). 130 = Jacob's age when he went to Egypt. -39 = Joseph's age at the time Gen. 41:46. 45:6. 91= Jacob s age when Joseph was born. This is in harmony with the 14 years Jacob served his Uncle Laban for his wives. NOTE: From Joseph's age of 30, (Gen. 41:46) to the time he sent for his father to come to Egypt was nine years. The seven years of plenty had passed and two years of the famine had passed (Gen. 45:6) making him 39 years old. 91 = the age of Jacob when Joseph was born at the end of the 14 years. -7 = The years Jacob had been married before Joseph was born. 84 = Jacob s age when he got married. 7 = Yrs. he had been there before he got married. 77 = age of Jacob when he fled from Esau NOTE: Gen. 30: Jacob had completed his 14 years of service to Laban for Leah and Rachel at the time Joseph was born. He had Rachel as his wife while he was working the second seven years and Joseph was born at the end of the 14 years. He had 11 sons and one daughter born in the 2nd 7 year period. Jacob was 77 years old when he fled from Esau. Let s look at a few more dates of events during this time period. 2

2168 = date of Jacob s birth. 77 = his age at the time he fled from Esau = the P.A. date Jacob fled from Esau = the date Jacob came to Egypt (above date). 39 = age of Joseph at that time = P.A. date Joseph was born. 17 = age of Joseph when he was sold Gen. 37: = P.A. date Joseph was sold into Egypt. 39 = age of Joseph when Jacob came to Egypt. 17 = his age when he was sold. 22 = years he had been in Egypt when Jacob came = Date of the Exodus 80 = Moses age at the Exodus (Acts 7:22-30) 2433 P.A. = year Moses was born. * * * * * * * Back to the chronology Laban said to Jacob: 26. And Laban said, It must not be so done in our country, to give the younger before the firstborn. Laban deceived Jacob and gave him the oldest daughter, Leah. Jacob was angry but he accepted the custom of the land. In the following chapters, Genesis 29-30, Jacob serves the 14 years. He has Rachel as his wife while he serves the 2nd seven year period. Through their struggles to have children by him they both give their maids to him as a wife to bear children for them. During the 2nd seven years Jacob has 11 sons and one daughter born to him from his four wives. He then works another six years for his cattle and God tells him to return to Canaan. Gen. 31:3 And the LORD said unto Jacob, Return unto the land of your fathers, and to your kindred; and I will be with you. Let s look at the some of dates and events within this period of time = P.A. date Jacob came to Haran. 20 = years he worked for his uncle Laban = P.A. date Jacob left Haran to return to Canaan. Genesis 31:38 This twenty years have I been with you; your ewes and your female goats have not cast their young, and the rams of your flock have I not eaten. Genesis 31:41 Thus have I been twenty years in your house; I served you fourteen years for your two daughters, and six years for your flocks: and you have changed my wages ten times. 2111= date Jacob returned to Canaan. If we take this date and associate other dates with it from this time to the time of the Exodus we find some very interesting scriptural facts. Genesis chapters cover this period of time. You are encouraged to read these accounts and note the ages and dates that are listed there. Compare them with the dates in this study = Date of the Exodus = date Jacob returned to Canaan from Haran. 402 = years from Jacob s return to Canaan and the time Israel left Egypt to return to Canaan. This will be 402 years of the 430 from the promise to Abraham to the Exodus, or Law = the Promise to Abraham & the beginning of the 430 years. 430 = the years of sojourning 2513 = Date of the Exodus. It always comes out the same = Date Jacob returned to Canaan from Haran. 17 = Joseph s age when he was sold into Egypt 2128 = date Joseph was sold into Egypt = Date Jacob returned to Canaan and birth of Joseph that year. 39 = age of Joseph when Jacob came to Egypt 2150= P.A. date Jacob went to Egypt. 3

After the giving of the law in 2513 Israel wandered in the desert for 40 years,: Acts 7:36 He brought them out, after he had showed wonders and signs in the land of Egypt, and in the Red sea, and in the wilderness forty years = date of the Exodus +40 = years of wandering in the wilderness = PA date they entered into the land of promise. Joshua 5:1 And it came to pass, when all the kings of the Amorites, which were on the side of the Jordan westward, and all the kings of the Canaanites, which were by the sea, heard that the LORD had dried up the waters of the Jordan from before the children of Israel, until we were passed over, that their heart melted, neither was there spirit in them any more, because of the children of Israel. Joshua 5:10-12 And the children of Israel encamped in Gilgal, and kept the passover on the fourteenth day of the month at evening in the plains of Jericho. 11. And they did eat of the old grain of the land the next day after the passover, unleavened cakes, and parched grain on the very same day. 12. And the manna ceased the next day after they had eaten of the old grain of the land; neither had the children of Israel manna any more; but they did eat of the fruit of the land of Canaan that year. They were judged by God-appointed judges for a space of about 450 years. Acts 13:20 And after that he gave unto them judges for about four hundred and fifty years, until Samuel the prophet. From the giving of the law in 2513 to the time of Solomon s reign is explained in one scripture. 1 Kings 6:1 And it came to pass in the four hundred and eightieth year after the children of Israel were come out of the land of Egypt, in the fourth year of Solomon's reign over Israel, in the month Ziv, which is the second month, that he began to build the house of the LORD = PA date of the law. 480 = years from the law to Solomon = PA date in 4th year of Solomon s reign. -4 = the years Solomon had been king 2983 = PA date of the beginning of Solomon s reign. In this study we will not follow the chronology in a date by date, scripture by scripture manner from this point. We are going to pick up with the Book of Daniel with the time line. You are encouraged to go online and download the study, A Biblical Chronology of Man at: All of the dates and scriptures are given in that study from this point to the Book of Daniel. We will pick up there next month. * * * * * * * BIBLE QUIZ FOR THIS MONTH How old was Joseph when he was made governor of Egypt? How old was he when he brought Jacob, his father, to Egypt? We ran it last month but we will run it again in case someone missed it who might want to have Brother Johnny Wyatt visit with your church. DEAR CHURCHES I am Johnny Wyatt. Pray about it and if you can use me please call (501) * * * * * * * The Christian Walk Great Instructions from the Book of Romans to help you have a closer, daily walk with God. God tells us how to live our daily lives as we serve Him. The scriptures give the instructions. It is up to us to read them and abide by them. God instructs us to live for Him after we have been saved. Take into consideration for your daily life for Christ the following scriptures. Romans 6:13-14 Neither yield your members as instruments of unrighteousness unto sin: but yield yourselves unto God, as those that are alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness unto God. 14. For sin shall not have dominion over you: for you are not under the law, but under grace. Great instructions there. Let s look also at: Romans 12:9-21 Let love be without hypocrisy. Abhor that which is evil; cleave to that which is good. 10. Be tender loving one to another with brotherly love; in honor preferring one another; 11. Not slothful in business; fervent in spirit; serving the Lord; 12. Rejoicing in hope; patient in tribulation; 5

constant in prayer; 13. Distributing to the necessity of saints; given to hospitality. 14. Bless them who persecute you: bless, and curse not. 15. Rejoice with them that do rejoice, and weep with them that weep. 16. Be of the same mind one toward another. Mind not high things, but condescend to men of low estate. Be not wise in your own conceits. 17. Recompense to no man evil for evil. Provide things honest in the sight of all men. 18. If it be possible, as much as lies in you, live peaceably with all men. 19. Dearly beloved, avenge not yourselves, but rather give place unto wrath: for it is written, Vengeance is mine; I will repay, says the Lord. 20. Therefore if your enemy hungers, feed him; if he thirsts, give him drink: for in so doing you shall heap coals of fire on his head. 21. Be not overcome of evil, but overcome evil with good. I am aware of the use of a lot of our space with printed scripture: But what the scriptures state is what we are studying and what we want to know. Therefore, there is no way I can say things about Christian living that will be more important than the scriptures. Therefore, let s look at all the Christian instructions found in Romans chapter 13. Romans 13:1-14 Let every soul be subject unto the higher powers. For there is no power but of God: the powers that be are ordained of God. 2. Whosoever therefore resists the power, resists the ordinance of God: and they that resist shall receive to themselves judgment. 3. For rulers are not a terror to good works, but to the evil. Will you then not be afraid of the power? do that which is good, and you shall have praise of the same: 4. For he is the minister of God to you for good. But if you do that which is evil, be afraid; for he bears not the sword in vain: for he is the minister of God, an avenger to execute wrath upon him that does evil. 5. Therefore you must be subject, not only for wrath, but also for conscience's sake. 6. For, for this cause pay you tribute also: for they are God's ministers, attending continually upon this very thing. 7. Render therefore to all their dues: tribute to whom tribute is due; custom to whom custom; fear to whom fear; honor to whom honor. 8. Owe no man anything, but to love one another: for he that loves another has fulfilled the law. 9. For this, You shall not commit adultery, You shall not kill, You shall not steal, You shall not bear false witness, You shall not covet; and if there be any other commandment, it is summed up in this saying, namely, You shall love your neighbor as yourself. 10. Love works no ill to his neighbor: therefore love is the fulfilling of the law. 11. And this, knowing the time, that now it is high time to awake out of sleep: for now is our salvation nearer than when we believed. 12. The night is far spent, the day is at hand: let us therefore cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armor of light. 13. Let us walk honestly, as in the day; not in reveling and drunkenness, not in debauchery and wantonness, not in strife and envying. 14. But put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make not provision for the flesh, to fulfill the lusts thereof. Wonderful instructions for the Child of God. May He grant us the grace to live for Him as He has instructed, Paul made a statement in: Romans 6:15 What then? shall we sin, because we are not under the law, but under grace? God forbid. V,18 Being then made free from sin, you became the servants of righteousness. V,20-23 For when you were the servants of sin, you were free from righteousness. 21. What fruit had you then in those things of which you are now ashamed? for the end of those things is death. 22. But now being made free from sin, and become servants to God, you have your fruit unto holiness, and the end everlasting life. 6

23. For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. Before you accepted the sacrifice of Jesus Christ for the atonement of your sins, you had no Christian walk at all. You followed after the lusts of the flesh completely. But now you are made free from sin by His blood. 1 John 1:7 But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanses us from all sin. 1 John 3:9 Whosoever is born of God does not commit sin; for his nature remains in him: and he cannot sin, because he is born of God. Of course you must understand the two-fold nature of man to comprehend that. When you accept the teaching of the Scriptures it changes your mind about a lot of things. This is one of them. Did you accept Jesus as your Savior? If you did His blood cleansed you from ALL sin. That s the point of the New Birth. 1 John 5:1 Whosoever believes that Jesus is the Christ is born of God: and everyone that loves him that begat loves him also that is begotten of him. Look again at verse 9. Whosoever is born of God does not commit sin; for his nature remains in him: and he cannot sin, because he is born of God. So, But now being made free from sin, and become servants to God, you have your fruit unto holiness, Thus, you have begun your Christian walk. You have a new life before you and that is to live like a Christian. Romans 8:9-10 But you are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwells in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his. 10. And if Christ be in you, the body is dead because of sin; but the Spirit is life because of righteousness. Now that the Holy Spirit dwells in you, you will have joy walking in the Spirit. Galatians 5:22-25 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, 23. Meekness, self-control: against such there is no law. 24. And they that are Christ's have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts. 25. If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit. 26. Let us not be desirous of vain glory, provoking one another, envying one another. God s Word thoroughly instructs us how to have a daily walk with Him while we are living in this world. Let us be obedient to His instructions and have His blessings for an abundant life. THE MOST POWERFUL FOUR BIBLE DOCTRINES There are certain fundamental P doctrines taught in the Bible that are very important and should be known by all believers. This study covers the four most important doctrines for mankind to know in order to have perfect peace with God. MIRACLES AND TONGUES These teachings go into deep detail about what the Bible teaches on these subjects. They give the Old Testament prophecies concerning them and the New Testament fulfillment of them. There is much confusion in religious circles today about these subjects. A good Bible knowledge about them will remove such confusion. MY JOURNEY THROUGH LIFE Roy Matlock This will begin when and where I was born and covers the highlights of my life.
