People need to know that they are not alone; that when they face life s difficulties, they are surrounded by a community of grace; and that they do not have to figure out entirely for themselves how to cope with family tensions, self-doubts, periods of despair, economic reversal, and the temptations that hurt themselves or others. People need to know the peace that runs deeper than an absence of conflict, the hope that sustains them even through the most painful periods of grief, the sense of belonging that blesses them and stretches them and lifts them out of their own preoccupations. People need to learn how to offer and accept forgiveness and how to serve and be served. As a school for love, the church becomes a congregation where people learn from one another how to love. People need to know that life is not having something to live on but something to live for, that life comes not from taking for oneself but by giving of oneself. People need a sustaining sense of purpose. 2
4 3Gs VISIT TO MITCHELL PARK DOMES To bee or not to bee, that is the question! Join the 3Gs on Monday, July 16, for a funfilled visit to the Mitchell Park Domes. We ll visit the Show Dome with its honey bee exhibit. This summer floral show takes visitors on a journey through the language of flowers. As we walk along the pastel-tinted displays, we ll see scroll-shaped signs with quotes from Shakespeare that relate to the nearby flowers. Additionally, there will be information on honey bees and a honey bee display. And just in time for the new Jurassic World film, we ll be transported back to 1,000,000 B.C. (or a reasonable facsimile of it!) with the Dinosaurs Under Glass exhibit in both the Tropical Dome, with over 1,200 species of tropical plants as well as some tropical birds, and the Desert Dome, with its world class collection of cacti and succulents. After our tour of the Domes is finished, we ll head over to Bari Pizzeria, 5919 West Burnham Street, West Allis, for pizza (obviously!) or any other of their specialties you might want. Admission to the Domes is free for all ages (yes, you read that right!), as long as you are a Milwaukee County resident with proof of residency. So be sure to bring your driver s license or other proof with you. It s $8.00 if you are not a resident ($7.00 with current AAA membership card). Let s meet at the church at 9:30 A.M. so that we can get to the Domes by 10:00. We ll have plenty of time to walk around and see the exhibits before lunch. The 3Gs welcomes everyone who is 50 and older. Please sign up no later than Sunday, July 15, on the sheet in the Education Wing foyer so that we know how many to expect. Also, mark your calendars for Friday, August 31, for Senior Day at the Zoo, and be sure to add Tuesday, September 11, to your date book, as well, when we ll have our annual picnic at Jeff and Debb Jaeck s home on Phantom Lake. Details to follow! Calling all Chefs!! AB Women are collecting recipes for a new cookbook. If you have a favorite recipe, kitchen trick, or cooking tip that you would like to share, please give your recipe and ideas to any one of the women. The cookbook will be published in time for sale at the annual bazaar. ABMen Sunday, July 29th at 3 p.m. Golf outing at Muskego Lakes Country Club. Meet at golf course, everyone is invited.
