Time after Pentecost August 18 and August 19, 2018 Today and This Week at OSL Through the SACRAMENT OF HOLY BAPTISM the OSL community welcomes Hailey Lynn Appl and Lincoln Adam Seefeldt into the Body of Christ. Hailey is the daughter of Jason and Tracy Appl; her sponsors are Cory and Cristal Appl. Lincoln is the son of Cedric and Alexis Seefeldt; his sponsors are Rachel Clark, Andrea and Brook Begeman, and Jeremy and Heidi Seefeldt. FLOWERS are given in honor of Harold and Phyllis Krueger on what would have been their 68 th wedding anniversary (Aug. 20), by their family. The whole congregation is invited to join in a SERVICE SCAVENGER HUNT this Sunday, Aug. 19, at 2:00 P.M. Teams will be sent into the city to perform random acts of kindness. Form your teams and sign up for an amazing afternoon of service and fun. Teams must include an adult driver, and all members must all fit safely inside their vehicle. You may also join as an unattached person, and be matched to a team on the day of the event. Meet in the Youth Room. READING ROCKS, the OSL Library s reading program, ended last Sunday. Be sure to take a look at the bulletin board in the Library to see the vinyl records tracking the names of the 97 adults and 109 children and youth who participated, and the 1,303 items they checked out during the nineweek program. SECOND SATURDAY MOVIES will resume on Sept. 8 with I Can Only Imagine, the captivating movie about the bestselling single in the history of Christian music, and Bart Millard, the man who wrote it. Make a day of it with the movie at 2:30 P.M., worship at 5:00, and dinner following worship. The interfaith support/prayer group IN HIS STEPS: PATHWAYS OF PEACE will meet on Tuesday, Aug. 21, at 7:00 P.M., at First Presbyterian Church, 2300 S. West Ave. Focus will be the plight of Palestinian Women, the work of Presbyterian Women, and Mara I ll Mara Women dealing with aggressive and late stage breast cancer.

3 Community OSL s FRIENDSHIP CLUB will kick off its fall season on Sept. 18 with a bus trip to the Heritage Hall Museum in Freeman, S.D. The group will meet at OSL at 8:30 A.M. for departure at 9:00, then enjoy a guided tour of a number of restored and furnished buildings that house many antiques. Follow that with a walk through the native trees and grasses of the neighboring Prairie Arboretum, then enjoy a picnic lunch before returning to OSL by mid-afternoon. Cost is $25 per person, which includes transportation, lunch, and museum entrance fee. Sign up at the Information Center on Sundays or in the Church Office during the week. Questions? Contact Pr. OSL s Faith in Motion team is underway in the WALKING CHALLENGE with First Lutheran, East Side Lutheran, and Gloria Dei Lutheran. The mission is to walk together in faith and become more aware of wellness and taking care of body, mind, and spirit! Keep track of your steps during August (forms are at the Information Center or in the Church Office) and turn them into Deb Harlan by Sept. 10 to help OSL win bragging rights in the challenge. OSL DINING OUT an evening of dinner and fellowship at a local restaurant will celebrate the end of summer at Backyard BBQ, 3705 S. Western Ave., on Friday, Aug. 24, at 5:30 P.M. Come and enjoy great food and great fellowship! Sign up at the Information Center or call Norma Steinocker, , or Donna Wilson, Service Our Savior s will host a WORSHIP SUMMIT on Wednesday, Sept. 5, at 6:00 P.M. Ministry leaders representing musicians, sound techs, media techs, TV techs, greeters, ushers, communion assistants, readers, nursery helpers, food service volunteers, bulletin support, and Information Center workers will conduct 15-minute sessions to give an overview of these ministries and sign up to give one (or more) a try. Pr. Randy will begin the summit with a greeting, then you may explore as many ministry areas as you like. Begin the evening in the Celebrate Center.

4 Service THANKS TO THE 30 OSL VOLUNTEERS who helped serve breakfast at the Banquet on Aug. 8. Watch for upcoming opportunities to help our neighbors. COME JOIN THE KITCHEN CREW! OSL s kitchen volunteers help out with Sunday breakfast or Wednesday supper or both! It s a fun group and a flexible schedule. Contact Debbie Theis, , ext. 42, or dtheis@oslchurch.com to learn more. SUMMER WEATHER BRINGS OUT THE CARETAKERS, volunteers who help with cleanup, light yardwork, and other chores around the OSL campus. The group works outside as weather permits, and finds things to do inside when it doesn t. To join the Caretakers, simply show up in The Gathering Place on Thursday morning, from 9:00 to noon. Wear work clothes (hat and work gloves) and bring a water bottle. Tools will be provided. Joel Ziebarth will be on hand to get things rolling. CARING FRIENDS OPPORTUNITIES exist at Bethany Meadows, Brandon; Morgan Lane Village, Tea; Good Samaritan Center, Canton; and Edgewood Vista, Covington Care Center, and Southridge Healthcare in Sioux Falls. Learning GROWING THE CHURCH GOD S WAY: A Study of Ephesians, led by Pr. Randy, continues on Tuesdays, from 6:30 to 8:00 P.M., in The Gathering Place. Light snacks and beverages will be served. Generosity This summer s NOISY OFFERING will be given to two agencies that are making an impact in the lives of children in our community: the Hope Coalition and Project SOS Supply Our Students. The Hope Coalition is determined to make preschool accessible for all children, and Supply Our Students is working to provide every student with the necessary school supplies. Thank you for your generous support, and thank you to OSL kids, who play an important role in making the Noisy Offering happen each week. We continue to run at a small operating defi cit as of the end of July, but anticipate making up that difference as we enter a new program year. Total Revenue...$1,241,171 Total Expenses...$1,273,181 Surplus/(Defi cit)...($32,010) The Board of Finance will continue to update these numbers throughout the rest of the year to keep you informed so that we will meet our goal of fully funding our ministry plan for 2018.
