I could use some coaching from the past presidents, but at least we may have a Clan Piper to put in the report. So she cut us a little slack for this year!! We have had some turnovers in the Clan Donnachaidh Society Council, and if you are interested in that Peggy Reid or I can forward their s to you. We have added a few more members to our group and I hope to see you all next year. If you have any questions for me about anything concerning the Clan or activity suggestions, please don't hesitate to call or me! I want to thank each of you for standing with Clan Donnachaidh, supporting us financially by your membership, and by your loyalty and love for the Family! Virtutis Gloria Merces (Glory is the Reward of Valor) FROM PRESIDENT, ALICE DUNCAN Happy Holydays, everyone!! I hope you are spending these Holy days with family and friends. We did it!! We had a great year as far as the games. Everything went smooth as silk, thank you all for your help, patience, and time. We had some changes this year but muddled through them in true Donnachaidh fashion. We held together as the great Clan we have always been and showed a strong presence at the Games and Gatherings of the Highland Clans. We lost a couple of members this year, our dear Reed, Bill Reed, and another council member Rev. Sarah Jane Aseltine. They have gone home and we wish their families consolation for they will be sorely missed, by us also, but we would not keep them from their appointment with the Almighty Himself. I'm sure Marj, Linda and our Clan members who have gone home before, greeted them and assigned them to a service position in The Big Clan in The Sky, where we will meet our families again. I would like to thank each and everyone of you for helping me this year make the games a success, and would like some suggestions for activities you have gone to that you enjoyed in previous years with the Clan, for next year. The Kirkin O' The Tartan, here in Sacramento, held at the Fremont Presbyterian Church was a Big success and we received the Blessing on the Clan for as the New Year for us is November 1, 2012! I have joined the Daughters Of Scotia here in Sacramento and will be letting you know where our Burn's night supper will be held. I also met Donald Duncan who is a piper with the Sacramento Pipe Band and will be asking him to be our official piper! We didn't get our annual report off because I didn't know we sent one to Scotland!! 2 SCOTTISH MAGAZINE IDENTIFIES PLEASANTON GAMES AS WORLD'S LARGEST Submitted by Council Member, James Robertson Having just completed the very successful 147th Scottish Highland Gathering & Games at the Alameda County Fairgrounds in Pleasanton over the Labor Day weekend, the Caledonian Club of San Francisco was notified of their world standing as the largest Games in the world according to Scottish Field Magazine. In the September issue of the Scottish Field, one of Scotland's premier magazines published in Edinburgh, a feature article by Tim Siddons titled "Vive la difference" featured a Highland Games at Bressuire, France. In comparing that event with others held in Scotland and throughout the world, the article stated, "The biggest Highland Games in the world is in Pleasanton, California". In a special section within the article, titled "Field Facts", the magazine stated, "Produced entirely by volunteers from the Caledonian Club of San Francisco, these games are often the largest in the world with 25 pipe bands (30 this year) and hundreds of athletes and dancers. The event is also renowned for its theatrical portrayals of Highland life, such as last year's reenactment of a Highland chieftain's wedding." This year's gathering and games achieved the largest single year attendance increase since being established in Pleasanton. IN MEMORIAM Wilbert Glenn (Bill) Reed Wilbert Glenn (Bill) Reed was born in Richmond, Alameda Co., CA. on 21 Jun 1924. He grew up in Richmond and Oakland, CA, and graduated from Fremont High School.

3 IN MEMORIAM Wilbert Glenn (Bill) Reed Wilbert Glenn (Bill) Reed was born in Richmond, Alameda Co., CA. on 21 Jun He grew up in Richmond and Oakland, CA, and graduated from Fremont High School. Shirley Mae Ryan, whom he had known since about age 14 became his wife in Norfolk, Virginia, where Bill was stationed somewhere in the south Pacific. On 7 Aug 1945, Bill got word that his first child Diane (Reed) Manning was born in Oakland, CA. Bill would say many times over the years that it took the A Bomb to help her be born. Later two sons John and James would become part of the family. Bill worked as a carpenter most of their married life, owned Reed's Construction Company and did cabinet work on the side to get them "through the lean winter months". He also worked for the State of California on the Los Angeles Tunnel in southern CA which connected with the California Aqueduct system. He also worked for Alameda County as a Building Codes Enforcement Officer. He was involved in Boy Scouts as Scout Master, and San Lorenzo Little League. He was an NRA National rifle and pistol instructor, and was in business for himself with Reed's Loads, a gun and rifle reloading business. Stamp collecting was another hobby. And, he loved to cook and garden!!! Shirley passed in Then, at his 50th high school reunion, he and Jean met up again. They too had gone to school together in Oakland, and met sometime in about 4th grade. Jean and Bill were married about a year later and spent many enjoyable years traveling. Scotland and Ireland were his favorite places to go. As he became more involved with Clan Donnachaidh, he wanted to know more about his family history. Sadly only one family member has been found (so far) that was born in Scotland. But that did not matter, at least he had Scottish blood in him! He was very proud to be a member of the clan and "everything about it". Dad passed 26 Sep He was blessed with 7 grandchildren and at that time, 14 and now 15 greatgrandchildren. Thanks to all for the kind words, many cards and s that we received, he loved all of you too! Diane (Reed) Manning

Newly added at the heading of our page is a great photo taken by Judy Harkin, our Journey Home Consultant, with a view of a beautiful scene in our Clan Country; a picture of the mountain, Schiehallion, and Loch Rannoch in the foreground. This is a great site for people to send requests for information on our clan and many people have been directed to a nearby branch. The current number of users is 424. Several of the branches have their own page on Facebook, so help to support them also. NEW COUNCIL CHAIRMAN RESIGNS Letter from Duncan Robertson Huie, Vice-Chairman of the Clan Donnachaidh Society Council October 2012 Dear Clan Members, I am sorry to report that I received a letter of resignation from John P. Robertson, our Chairman, due to personal reasons, which sadly we must respect. Will Roberts A meeting was held with our lawyer and some of the Executive Committee to see how to progress and it has been decided that the whole Executive Committee will meet very soon to seek a new Chairman. As Vice- Chairman I will do all I can as "acting" chairman, but as a tenant of the previous museum building it does create a conflict of interest. We will keep you informed as soon as we are able to. The size is 42 inches waist and 19 inches length. It was originally purchased for $350 and in donating it, Barbara indicated she would be very happy if our Clan made $125 to $150 for it.
