1 The Anchor The Federated Church of Green Lake What s Pastor Karen reading? Dancing Standing Still by Richard Rohr, with subtitle, Healing the World from a Place of Prayer. This small but mighty book speaks to the power of prayer in our lives. One of my favorite thoughts from the section called Shadow Boxing is, Any true contemplation or meditation gradually overcomes your autonomous and success-driving ego. It slowly undoes any illusion that your cracked thinking can get you out of this inexplicable world. It overcomes the shapeless anxiety that comes from the inherent mystery of life and all of your attempts at evasion. That is why your politics, time usage, and economics will change. If they don t, I doubt if your prayer is invading your unconscious. If your prayer goes deep, your whole view of the world will change from fear to connection because you don t live inside your fragile and encapsulated self anymore. In meditation, you are moving from ego consciousness to soul awareness, from being driven to being drawn. (italics mine). I especially appreciate the ability to bring God into the shapeless anxiety that come from not knowing what the future holds, from living in a world where so much is out of my own control, from trying to bypass things through evasion, that moves towards connection and away from fear. This invitation is extended to us that we might spend time in relationship prayer with God. This type of prayer is different from intercessory prayer or sharing our needs with God. It is an invitation to spend time with God which helps us remember who we are and whose we were created to be. This is the type of prayer we practice on Tuesdays during our Centering Prayer time (12:15-12:35), as well as on Sunday Mornings at our 7:45 a.m. service. Packer Parties November 11th 12:00 noon, at the home of Pat and Jim Gelhar, N5422 Shore Dr., Green Lake (by the Christian Writing Center) Beef Stew and Chili will be provided, bring a small snack to share December 2nd 12:00 noon, at the home of Judy and Tom Rauschenberger, W3029 Orchard Ave., Green Lake. 5 Outreach 2018 HARVEST FEST BARBECUE CHICKEN AND PIG ROAST The Harvest Fest weekend is now another memory of outreach for our Federated Church. Once again, it appears that weather may have had an effect upon how many attended the activities over the weekend. The Chicken and Pig Roast last year suffered due to the high 90 degree temperatures and many people stayed home. This year, it was quite cool, some would say down right cold and damp, however the number of festival visitors appeared to have been down once again. According to our expert Financial Advisor, Arlo Reichter, the number of meals we served at the Pig Roast was 232 meals. Years past it wasn t uncommon to serve however less chicken and pork was ordered and the result was lower expenses allowing us to net more proceeds and have less meat left over. The breakdown of the profit and expenses, please find below: Sponsorship: $1, Ticket Sales: 2, Expenses: -$1, Jay s Barbecue-chicken -$68.31 Cross Roads-supplies Pork-Pig donated by Jim and Pat Gelhar Pork-Mac & Cheese-Donated by Jamie Beach Total Profit:.$2, This profit is just shy of what was earned last year even though our Sponsorship was considerably higher one year ago. Ordering less Chicken and having the Pork, Mac and Cheese and labor donated, allowed our net profit to be similar to that of the past. SPONSORSHIP We are so blessed at Federated to have such generous givers. The Sponsorship Program was started to seek donations that would defray the cost of materials so that the church could maximize their return for giving. Once again, we were able to cover our expenses and due to the generous giving of our 4-H Pig, Edward, by the Gelhars, it wasn t necessary to purchase any additional Pork. The cooking and preparation of the pork and the newly added dish of Mac & Cheese, was donated by Jamie Beach. Thank you Jamie!! This was the first year we changed the menu just a little to see if Mac & Cheese could take the place of the baked potato? I m sure there are those who missed the potato but the Mac & Cheese appeared to be well accepted. Comments are always welcomed. Our generous Sponsors who were on the signup sheet are listed below. I certainly hope I don t leave anyone s name off. Thank each and every one of you for your financial donations, donations of time in helping to put up the tent, table and chairs. Those who came Friday night to fill cups of apple sauce and coleslaw. Our servers who willingly gave of their time to assist in filling up plates of beans, sauerkraut, barbecued chicken, pork, rolls, dessert and not to forget Mac & Cheese!

6 Special thank you to all who help clean up, wash pots and pans and assisted in cleaning up after this event, couldn t have done any of this if it wasn t for your help! I don t want to miss Craig Leahy who has donated our tent and chairs for the past several years from Modern Rentals! Bill & Lori Kinas Arlo & Dianne Reichter Sue & Mike Fuller Joan Beck Joan & Dick Mueller Sue Ruth Kari & Jon Schneider & Family Crystal & Bob Carew Pat Phillips Celest King Chris & Mike Grams Tom Reinsch Gene Ladwig Dr. Charles Huibregtse Betsey & Larry Miller Marion Sandleback Miriam & Kim Ownby Kris & Larry Herrell Barbara & Bill Gregory Jodi & Brian Olmen & Family Caroline & Dave Willis Jeannette & Jim Kreston Amy Schroeder Ann & Dr. Barry Rogers Jamie Beach Craig Leahy All these folks and others who I may have possibly missed have contributed with their finances, time, baked goods and for some, all of these. Thank you so so much for all you do for our church, the community and I hope you feel the love of the Lord for the money you helped to generate to give to the worthy causes of Disaster Relief, the Food Pantry and the Ministries of the Federated Church. The pots and pans have now been cleaned, the Nesco Roasters put away and dreams of dancing with chickens and of course, Edward the pig may now fade away until next year. It has once again been my privilege to chair this event which is made so much easier by the many volunteers who selflessly pitch in to get the many details done. Hugs to all! Randy Zieth Chair
