3 St. Stephen Scroll Page 3 Food for Ronald McDonald House We are gathering groceries for our Ronald McDonald House crew, who make dinner at that facility every month. Because the meals must now be made at the facility rather than ahead of time, our volunteers have dwindled. Those volunteers left could really use some help gathering packaged food to take there. There will be a place in our church kitchen to place the donated food. We need Manwich (Sloppy Joe meal) hamburger meat small buns corn green beans soup mixes mac & cheese boxes packaged desserts (can be prepared in 1 hour or less) Please help, if you can! Mortgage Challenge Update As mentioned in our July newsletter, an anonymous member has challenged us as a congregation to meet our annual mortgage payments for one year in order to be rewarded with a 13th payment from that member. If paid in full, the mortgage payments for one year would total $12, In order to be rewarded with that 13th payment toward our principal balance, St. Stephen would have to receive offerings specifically designated for the mortgage totaling $12, or more. As of 10/14/2013, donations specifically designated for the mortgage total $ Therefore, we need to receive an additional $ designated for the mortgage fund by the end of the year to get the extra 13th payment. If you were contemplating an organization to grace with an end-of-year tax deduction, this is a good opportunity. Please help us reach our goal and reduce the debt on our building. Thank you in advance. Also, we again give a great big THANK YOU to the member who has offered to make the 13th payment. Want to Officially Join St. Stephen? On Sunday, November 17 th we will be having a new member Sunday at Saint Stephen. If you are not a member of Saint Stephen, and are interested in making your relationship with Saint Stephen all official please let Pastor Kerri know. We would love to welcome you into the family officially! 3rd Qtr Social Ministry Collection Results On September 22nd and 29th, we collected offerings for special ministries. A total of $ was collected, and 75% ($474.60) went to Fern Creek Highview United Ministries (FCHUM) while 25% ($158.20) was kept for other social ministry needs. Thank you to all who contributed. Our 4th quarter collection dates will be December 8th and 15th. Andrea Needs Rides Our sister in Christ, Andrea Eshenhaur has moved to Atria Assisted Living in Jeffersontown (right off Hurstbourne Lane). She would also like to have a ride to our annual Thanksgiving dinner on Sunday, November 24 th. If you would be able to give Andrea a ride even once, please call her at (502) or (502) Help Us Decorate for the Holidays Page 4 of this newsletter shows the decorating schedule for the Advent and Christmas holidays. As committee chairperson, I would like to thank those who have given their time, talent, and willingness to serve the congregation with this outreach to our members. The Evangelism Committee meets the third Sunday of the month after the 10am worship service. You are welcome to join us and continue to serve our Lord. Thank you for your service: Charles & Valerie Ziemba Fred & Judy McBride Ruth Scheuring Cathy Mudd Jim & Darlene Clark Lora Farmer Wendi Morris Janet Utecht Glenn & Karen Eisenbrey Hank & Julie Zimmerman Andrea Goebel Jeff & Dianne Brockman Charlie & Phyllis Boston Judy Kiser Marsha Simpson Rev. Tom & Maxine Swasko Ellen Ullom John 10:16 And I have other sheep that are not of this fold. I must bring them also, and they will listen to my voice. So there will be one flock, one shepherd. Evangelism Chairperson, Rita Sarson Operation Christmas Child Operation Christmas Child boxes are starting to pile up on the table in the Gathering Area. If you haven t made one yet, there are brochures on that table about how to pack a box. There is also an example box and lists of suggestions for gifts as well as lists of things to avoid in the boxes. This year, the Sunday school classes are working together to assemble some of the boxes with items that are listed on ornaments on the golden tree that is sitting in the fellowship hall. The tree has been cleared of tags a couple of times and re-stocked. Hopefully, this means that soon many boxes will appear on our table. The items need to be brought to the Sunday school classes by November 10th so that the classes have time to assemble them by November 24th, which is the deadline for everyone else s shoeboxes. Have fun assembling! FCHUM Holiday Cheer Program The Fern Creek/High-view United Ministries, FCHUM, is planning for the upcoming holidays and are asking for everyone s help to make their annual Holiday Cheer program a success. You are invited help us Gather God s Gifts to share with others. We hope to make at least 4 Holiday Cheer baskets for needy families in our community. Holiday Cheer baskets contain everything a family needs to prepare their Thanksgiving dinner. These baskets will be distributed by the Fern Creek/Highview United ministries the week of Thanksgiving. There are fall leaves in the Gathering Area with food items printed on them. Please take a leaf or 2 and purchase the items listed on your leaves. We need to have all of the food items returned to the church no later than Sunday, November 24 th. Working together we can be a blessing to our neighbors in need this Thanksgiving. If you wish to assemble an entire basket yourself, the following items are needed for each holiday basket: Stuffing mix 1-5 lb. pound of potatoes (don t bring till close to deadline) 1-3 lb. bag of onions (don t bring till close to deadline) 2-cans of cranberry sauce 3 to 5- cans of green vegetables (green beans, peas ) 3 to 5 cans of mixed vegetables ( corn, yams ) 1 to 2 cans of pie filling 1 bag of flour and 1 bag of sugar $15-$20 gift certificate to buy meat/perishable items Thank you in advance for your generosity!

Jesus responds, You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind. This is the greatest commandment. And the second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself (Matthew 22:37-39). We are called to love our God and our neighbors, not just with our words, but with our whole lives. Starting, Sunday, January 19 th Sunday, February 9 th, we will be exploring what it means to love our Lord and our neighbor by being God s hands in this world. Welcome, Aubrey! Rachel Clark s daughter, Aubrey Grace Clark, was born via c-section at 12:04 am on Wednesday, October 2 nd. Aubrey is 20 inches long and weighs 6 lbs and 5oz.
