2 9:15 AM ORDER OF SERVICE Please turn off all electronic devices. Nursery care is available. These services are live streamed (a live video presentation) PRELUDE (INSTRUMENTAL) Good King Wenceslas arr. The Piano Guys... Contemporary Band WELCOME & ANNOUNCEMENTS MINUTE MESSAGE Christmas Pageant...Tim and Terry Fallis OPENING CONGREGATIONAL SONG PLEASE STAND In the Bleak Midwinter In the bleak midwinter, frosty wind made moan, earth stood hard as iron, water like a stone; snow had fallen, snow on snow, snow on snow, in the bleak midwinter, long ago. Our God, heaven cannot hold him, nor earth sustain; heaven and earth shall flee away when he comes to reign: in the bleak midwinter a stable place sufficed the Lord God almighty, Jesus Christ. Enough for him, whom cherubim worship night and day, a breast full of milk, and a manger full of hay. Enough for him, whom angels fall down before, the ox and ass and camel which adore. What can I give him, poor as I am? If I were a shepherd, I would bring a lamb; if I were a wise man, I would do my part; yet what I can I give him -- give my heart. Cranham LIGHTING THE CANDLE OF JOY REMAIN STANDING Family: All:... The Grant family At a time when God s people need joy, we light this candle as a symbol of the spiritual joy that God s coming brings to us and to all the world. As we gather to praise God, let us pray that the joy of the Christ Child will brighten our lives and our living. God who has come to us in Jesus Christ, on this third Sunday in the season of Advent, we thank you for your gift of joy that illuminates the whole world with your presence. Bless us with the joy that makes our lives complete, and with all the gifts of your Holy Spirit. 2

3 ADVENT HYMN SING TOGETHER (No. 6, v. 3) A candle is burning, a candle of joy, a candle to welcome brave Mary s new boy. Our hearts fill with wonder, and eyes light and glow as joy brightens winter like sunshine on snow. Away in a Manger PRAYER OF APPROACH PLEASE BE SEATED THE LORD S PRAYER SAY TOGETHER VU NO. 921 SONG OF GATHERING PLEASE STAND (We invite the children to come up the centre aisle into the chancel, accompanied by an adult if necessary.) We Three Kings We three kings of orient are Bearing gifts we traverse afar Field and fountain Moor and mountain Following yonder star Chorus: O... star of wonder, star of night Star with royal beauty bright Westward leading, still proceeding Guide us to thy perfect light Born a King on Bethlehem s plain Gold I bring to crown Him again King for ever, ceasing never Over us all to reign Chorus Frankincense to offer have I Incense owns a Deity nigh Prayer and praising, all men raising Worship Him, God most high Chorus Myrrh is mine Its bitter perfume breathes A life of gathering gloom Sorrowing, sighing, bleeding, dying Sealed in the stone cold tomb Chorus Glorious now behold Him arise King and God and Sacrifice! Al-le-lu-ia, al-le-lu-ia Heaven to earth replies Chorus: 3

4 CHILDREN S TIME PLEASE BE SEATED (Children in all departments will leave for their Sunday School classes via the northeast stairs. Parents accompanying children, please return to your pews via the southeast stairs.) SONG OF GATHERING (INSTRUMENTAL) (We invite the congregation to take a moment of reflection as the children leave for Sunday School.) We Three Kings MINISTRY OF MUSIC The Virgin Mary Had a Baby Boy... Chamber Choir The virgin Mary had a baby boy, and they say that his name is Jesus. He come from the glorious kingdom. O yes, believer! O yes, believer! He come from the glory, he come from the glorious kingdom. The angels sang when the baby was born. The shepherds came where the baby was born. O yes, believer! O yes, believer! He come from the glory, he come from the glorious kingdom. SCRIPTURE Isaiah 35: Peter Norman The wilderness and the dry land shall be glad, the desert shall rejoice and blossom; like the crocus it shall blossom abundantly, and rejoice with joy and singing. The glory of Lebanon shall be given to it, the majesty of Carmel and Sharon. They shall see the glory of the Lord, the majesty of our God. Strengthen the weak hands, and make firm the feeble knees. Say to those who are of a fearful heart, Be strong, do not fear! Here is your God. He will come with vengeance, with terrible recompense. He will come and save you. Then the eyes of the blind shall be opened, and the ears of the deaf unstopped; then the lame shall leap like a deer, and the tongue of the speechless sing for joy. For waters shall break forth in the wilderness, and streams in the desert; the burning sand shall become a pool, and the thirsty ground springs of water; the haunt of jackals shall become a swamp, the grass shall become reeds and rushes. A highway shall be there, and it shall be called the Holy Way; the unclean shall not travel on it, but it shall be for God s people; no traveler, not even fools, shall go astray. No lion shall be there, nor shall any ravenous beast come up on it; they shall not be found there, but the redeemed shall walk there. And the ransomed of the Lord shall return, and come to Zion with singing; everlasting joy shall be upon their heads; they shall obtain joy and gladness, and sorrow and sighing shall flee away.
