Because of his visit, the following Agenda is planned: 5:00 p. m. - Christmas Social with Mark Crouchet and Aerie and Auxiliary members 6:00 p.m. - Dinner / menu: Lemon Chicken, mashed potatoes and gravy, vegetable and Dessert (Feel free to bring a dessert to share) The regular Aerie Meeting will be modified to a shorter one, beginning at 7:00 p.m. Our SWP is very modest about his choice of food and said he wanted dinner salad only, no dressing. But we know better, and we are going to fix a great dinner not only for him, but for everyone. Cost for your dinner is by donation and will be used to repay the cooks for their expenditures and the remainder to be passed onto the Aerie. I encourage all of our Auxiliary members to attend, as Mark s message will also address their goals as well. It is good to pause and reflect on our many blessings. Allow me on behalf of our Auxiliary Officers and members to thank you. The hard work and dedication that many of you tirelessly give to our Club is very much appreciated. You continue to amaze me with your generosity and giving spirit that each of you possess. The Holidays are a time to celebrate and spend time with our loved ones. Let us not forget our family and friends who are no longer with us and those who may need the comfort of a friendly smile or even a meal. Whether you are staying home or traveling to be with loved ones, may your journey be safe and enjoyable. Please mark your calendars for December 1 st. The Ladies Auxiliary will be holding a bizarre at the club. Come and get some sweet treats, gifts, or just enjoy the many crafts that will be for sale. 4 TICKETS FOR NEW YEAR S EVE PARTY GOING FAST Hurry, if you haven t already gotten your tickets for the Eagles 2485 New Year s Eve Party. Sandy Rowley and Loretta Neitch have been pre-selling $50 each. However, we are not accepting credit or debit cards. Theme: Dancing Under the Stars Ardell Fuquay has volunteered to coordinate decorations; colors scheme consists of turquoise; light blue; and silver. Joel Rehfeld has rounded up party favors. Our loyal Swing Shift band is booked for the evening with their varied repertoire for dancing and listening and maybe some drinking. Marsha Rehfeld has arranged for CG Catering to provide a catered buffet meal. Meals will be served by the caterer in the dining room but tables will be reserved in the Social Room. Menu: Steak tri-tips, chicken parmesan, red potatoes, wild rice pilaf, green beans, fruit tray, bread, and fresh salad. Costco sheet cakes for dessert. Midnight champagne or sparkling cider toasts at midnight. Juices after the toast. Will have coffee and water available for self-serve all night. Members are encouraged to please bring a first-time guest to show off our club. Net event proceeds to benefit the Aerie. THANKS TO OUR VOLUNTEERS of the MONTH Our generous volunteers (officers, bar staff, committee members, and others) deserve our appreciation and recognition. They contribute to the operation of the Aerie because they believe in what the Eagles are trying to do. They give of their time, energy, and personal expense because it is just who they are. Our Worthy Aerie President Tom Throndsen has identified Ronnie Stephens as a Worthy Volunteer of the Month. Through his auto repair business, Ronnie has provided material and labor to weld up broken legs on our Social Room chairs. Thanks to Ronnie s generous support, we have salvaged and returned 31 chairs to service, to date. Ronnie expects to finish the last few that remain shortly. Our Worthy Auxiliary Madam President Rebecca Holland has nominated Janie Turpen as a Worthy Volunteer of the Month for all her hard work and enthusiastic support of Auxiliary Cancer fund-raising and other charitable initiatives. The Board of Trustees publicly acknowledge the enthusiastic participation and monetary contributions of the Membership Committee members who are continuing to work hard to plan and conduct additional entertainment Kennewick Eagles December 2018 Newsletter Page 4

5 opportunities and activities for the benefit of our Aerie s financial well-being, to attract new members, and enhance the enjoyment of our membership. Those members are (in no particular order) Fred & Marilyn Ball, Joel & Marsha Rehfeld, Tom Throndsen, Sandy Rowley, Loretta Neitch, Rebecca Holland, Judy DeHart, John Lusso, Charlene McCormick, Dave Sharpe and Ray Curry. When you encounter these volunteers, let them know how valuable they are to all of us. Be careful though, they are likely to solicit your help in carrying forward their pet projects. Eagles Aerie 2485 a great place to be part of! November 18, 2018: At Fiesta Foods loading Thanksgiving Dinner meals with Dan Strong, Ray Curry, Barbara Orr, Shirley Percifield, and Jeanie Roberts. HOLIDAY FOOD BASKETS ARE GOING OUT AGAIN By the time you read this, our Aerie will have again this year provided Thanksgiving dinner food baskets to 35 deserving local families, including some connected to our members. With Shirley Percifield s leadership and generous donations from our members and Highlands Middle School, we also will be providing Christmas baskets to 35 families. Because children of these families will not be able to partake of school food programs during the Christmas break, these baskets also will include staples, as well as selected hygiene supplies, to assist those families over the full holiday period. Additional donations of food and/or money can be dropped off as late as December 15 th and will be greatly beneficial to this longstanding Eagles community outreach effort. Thank you for any help you can give. The Eagles 2485 Food Basket Committee AERIE BOARD OF TRUSTEES NEWS Joel Rehfeld is leading a committee to update our club by-laws. Joel welcomes any assistance and/or suggestions in this important endeavor. Anyone who would be interested in cooking and/or helping serve a meal for one of our Aerie events is encouraged to contact one of the following Trustees: Ray Curry, Dawn Jensen, or Joel Rehfeld. 6 The Trustees encourage our members to recycle aluminum cans via the club. The volume of empty cans we generate makes it worthwhile to redeem them, even for their small scrap value. Cans may be dropped off at the Annex whenever convenient. Our Worthy State President Mark Crouchet will visit our Aerie on December 18 th at 5:00 p.m. Trustees have made repairs to our dance floor fans so that all six are now operational and controllable remotely. As always, Eagles members are welcome -- and encouraged -- to attend Trustee meetings which are held each Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. The creative involvement and assistance from our members is vital to our Aerie s success. To quote Helen Keller: Alone we can do so little; together we can do so much. T-eam, E-veryone, A-chieves, M-ore: TEAM (work.) Ray Curry, Board of Trustees Chairman REAC NEWS (RETIRED EAGLES ACTIVITY CLUB) NEXT MEETING THURSDAY DECEMBER 13, P.M. AT THE AERIE Kennewick Eagles REAC will be providing the annual Tom and Jerry Party on Sunday December 16 th for Kennewick FOE members. Tickets will be provided to each Eagle member who attends for the drinks REAC is providing such as Tom & Jerrys, hot butter rums etc. served from 2 pm until 4 pm. Also available will be hot cider and nonalcoholic drinks. The bar will be open for those who prefer other drinks. The club will open at 12:30 pm in time for the start of the NFL football game. The Seattle Seahawks play San Francisco 49ers beginning at 1:05 pm. Appetizers are being provided by REAC and all attendees are encouraged to bring a finger food snack contribution to the appetizer table. This event provides an opportunity to again show off your ugly sweaters and participate in the Ugly Sweater Contest. Feel free to wear your Christmas ties, socks or other Christmas apparel too. In Our Thoughts & Prayers Our deepest sympathies and prayers to family and friends of long-time members Mary Ann Cornet and Ed Powell, and to those who have recently passed on. Our thoughts and prayers for a speedy recovery to all of our Eagle Brothers & Sisters who are under the weather. We also remember the service men and women who serve our nation and the families who wait for their safe return. 7 EAGLES GOT TALENT SHOW You re Invited to our Traditional TOM AND JERRY PARTY & UGLY SWEATER CONTEST Sunday December 16 th 2 to 4 p.m. What a great time for us all to get together in joy and cheer A time to wish all of our friends a happy and Wonderful Merry Christmas. SEAHAWKS Game starts at 1:05 Social Hall OPEN at 12:30 p.m. ALUMINUM CAN RECYCLING For some time now, Aerie Trustees have been recycling our aluminum cans and using the money, though not a lot, for Aerie maintenance items. Currently, this money is being used for a recently-started fund for updating/remodeling/beautifying our Dining Room. That area badly needs some TLC. Our Officers encourage our members to recycle via the club. Cans may be dropped off at the Annex whenever. Sponsored by Kennewick Eagles REAC Saturday, January 19 th 3:00 p.m. Do you have talent? Show it off and have some fun! This is a call for all Amateur Artists 14 years of age or older; it is also open to Eagle Members and Family of Eagle Members. All Talents are being showcased! 8 EAGLES LOCAL CHRISTMAS GIVING Our Aerie is working on a drive to collect much needed new, or gently used, winter clothing for some local school children in our section of town: hats, coats, scarves, and gloves. In conjunction with that effort, Dawn Jensen is arranging a Christmas dinner on December 23 rd for these children s families and others who we identify as in need. You can also request to be added to the distribution by sending your request to Kennewick2485Eagles@gmail.com NOTICE: BOOK EXCHANGE A Book Exchange has been set up in the lobby. Take a book, read it, pass it on or return, and bring in your book(s) to add to the Book Exchange. Set up by Sandy Rowley and Loretta Neitch. Thank you for your effort to set this up for our members. If you are able to help in this community outreach effort with donations of clothing, food, or cash, please let Dawn know as early as you are able. Eagles doing good work in and for our community.
