2 A Note About Our Prayerbooks Welcome to the South Street Temple. Our prayerbooks, Mishkan T Filah, are in the lobby or on the bookshelf at the front of the sanctuary. We invite you to take one so that you may join in our worship. As these are sacred books, we ask that you handle them with care by keeping them off the floor and returning them to their proper place at the conclusion of the service. Each prayer in Mishkan T Filah is laid out in a two-page spread, the Hebrew text, transliteration, and English translation on the right, and on the left are two alternate English readings reflecting on the theme of the prayer. The rabbi or cantorial soloist will announce page numbers and which option will be read. Shabbat Shalom. We are glad you are here. 4 LJCS News Religious school classes will meet at their normal times and buildings this Sunday, October 29 th. LJCS Hebrew School will meet as usual on Wednesday, November 1 st. Make plans to join us for our annual Lincoln Jewish Community School Shabbat Family Service and Meal FRIDAY evening, November 17th at Congregation Tifereth Israel Services will begin at 6:00 PM, followed by a meal prepared by the LJCS students. Gather with the teachers and students of the Lincoln Jewish Community School as we usher in the Shabbat Queen. (There will be no services at the Temple on the 17th) YOU'RE INVITED!! 5 Global Day of Jewish Learning in Lincoln On November 12th Jews around the world will share a day of Jewish learning, dialogue and exploration, joining together in celebration of all that unites us. This Year s Theme is Beauty and Ugliness. Join the Lincoln Jewish community for Text Study and a Hiddur Mitzvah Project: we will make beautiful ritual objects, through Gary Rosenthal s Hiddur Mitzvah Project, and send them to Jewish communities impacted by recent natural disasters. In addition: Please bring a ritual object from home and a short explanation of why it is meaningful to you. Then this class is for you. This 18-session course, which meets on select Tuesday nights, will cover a wide range of topics essential to Jewish life: holidays, life cycle celebrations, theology and core beliefs, values, sacred texts, history, anti-semitism & the Holocaust, Israel, the American Jewish experience, and the tapestry of the Jewish people today. The class is dynamic, thought-provoking, engaging, and fun. All are welcome. The cost is $50 for course materials. Please contact Rabbi Appleby if you need scholarship assistance. Register for either or both parts of this two-part program: Part II: Electric Vehicle Display - chat with owners, test drive? When: Sunday, October 29, 1-4 p.m. Where: Hy-Vee Parking Lot N 27 Street, Lincoln, NE Part II of this event is a hands-on opportunity to help prospective EV buyers/leasers to think through what vehicle or combination of vehicles(s) is appropriate to their specific lifestyle and income. EV owners will answer participants' questions about EVs and charging stations. In some cases a short test drive may be arranged.
