ESOTERICISM: Practical Techniques Used in Researching Hermetically Sealed Texts William John Meegan ABSTRACT In this paper some practical techniques used for researching esotericism will be studied in the sacred literature (Hermetically Sealed Texts) in which they were codified esoterically. Dante Alighieri s ( ) La Divina Commedia and the first four chapters of the Judeao Christian Scriptures will be used to illustrate the esoteric science as a valid avenue of research from an academic and scientific perspective. With an analysis of the Monad i it can be demonstrated it is the singularity in which the esoteric science from the Hermetic perspective was given birth. It is the primal force that writes the Judeao Christian Scriptures and other sacred literature around the world. The origins of Astrology and Kabbalah will be outlined in this paper with illustrations: demonstrable evidence to augment this thesis, which is a prerequisite in discussing any aspect of the esoteric science. Esotericism is not the documenting of what is thought to be its historical origins nor is it the recounting of historical comments made by enumerable personages from bygone eras. Esotericism is the science of the empyrean codified to the literature, artworks and monuments of antiquity. It is the task of modern researchers to study that material in quest of acquiring valid methods for obtaining its missive from the empyrean. It has previously been thought that the methods of doing this research was forever lost and out of the reach of humanity. That is a fairy tale given birth by ignorance. Man need but use his analytical abilities with a sincere heart in quest of obtaining this hidden (esoteric) knowledge. It is the task of this paper to demonstrate a few techniques that should prove useful to those of a mind towards esoteric research. INTRODUCTION ii Esotericism is a hidden science iii and not some flamboyant mysticism to be flaunted in the faces of the uninitiated. The word esoteric is bandied around so much so by the uninitiated that it is invoked in almost every discipline throughout academia. Esotericism from the Hermetic perspective is the harmonious melding (marriage) of the Quadrivium and the Trivium: THE SEVEN LIBERAL ARTS iv : Arithmetic, Music/Harmony, Geometry, Astronomy/ Astrology, Grammar, Rhetoric and Logic/Dialectics. There are two types of spirituality and both give deference to what they call esotericism as their secret science: this latter is stated to point out that each has its own enigmatic understanding of what they believe esotericism is. This paper will only speak to the Hermetic method of esotericism. Joseph Campbell v recognized these two types of spiritualities as The Way of the Animal Powers (Animal Envoy) and the Way of the Seed Earth (Hermeticism): in other words E over I (Emotion over the Intellect) or I over E (Intellect over the Emotions) vi. Realistically speaking, both of these mental states of consciousness: conscious and unconscious vii have to cooperate for the greater good of the soul/psyche to exist harmoniously in the material world of the senses. These two states of mind are not interchangeable. To invoke esotericism from one perspective is not inclusive of the other; however, that is generally how esotericism, in 1

this day and age, is perceived; nevertheless, these two states of mind are continuously unpredictable insofar as the soul/psyche can at any moment activate E over I or I over E. In the above two paragraphs I gave an example of esotericism without explanation. The mathematical sciences over the grammatical arts are equivalent to I over E or taking the grammatical arts literally in sacred scriptures is E over I. The reason that this dual phenomenology exist in the soul/psyche is because when the intellect is appealed to emotions are tethered and vice versa when emotions are in control the intellect is tethered. The sacred scriptures primary mandate is archiving knowledge pertaining to the eccentricities of the soul/psyche and thereby storing for all future generations a database of information on how the individual can learn to Know Himself. Symbolic tools such as mathematics and the grammatical arts are invoked to give analogies of these psychic mandates. In and of themselves mathematics and the grammatical arts as symbolic containers transmitting the teachings of the empyrean are meaningless other than symbolic analogies of psychic processes. Let s go a step further and call up the teachings of Astrology, which is used profusely in the first four chapters of Genesis viii. Astrology s twelve signs are placed into two categories: Quadruplicities: Cardinal, Fixed and Mutable and Triplicities (Elements): Fire, Earth, Air and Water. When the Quadruplicities are studied in the Zodiacal cycle the Triplicities are out of sight out of mind and vice versa when the Triplicities are being studied the Quadruplicities are out of sight out of mind. Thus the Quadruplicities and Triplicities in Astrology is another analogy to I over E or E over I. It is not too difficult to hypothesize that it is from the Quadruplicities and Triplicities categories in the Zodiacal cycle that the ancient writers of the works of antiquity obtained their authority to equate and codify the Seven Liberal Arts esoterically to the sacred scriptures. The Seven Liberal Arts have also the mantle of the Sun Signs of Astrology symbolically inherent in their nuances. Hence it is in seeing these several disciplines melding into each other that construct a recognized pattern of redundancy that is difficult not to envisage. Redundancy is the hallmark of science. THE BIRTH OF ESOTERICISM To those that understand esotericism in its pristine glory knows that there is no history to the birth of esotericism. Human always seek origins; however, how can one seek that which is in the empyrean: before the dawn of time? It is the task of each religious dispensation to pass on its knowledge of esotericism to the succeeding religious dispensations. This process has probably been going on for billions of years and there is no way of pinpointing one religion as the birth of esotericism. We must now ask ourselves how the ancient esoterist ripped this esoteric science from the very depth of the empyrean: Prometheus stealing the sacred fire ix from Mount Olympus. Some years ago I did a mathematical analysis on Dante Alighieri's ( ) La Divina Commedia x. It is a three volume trilogy and it had one hundred chapters. I reasoned a hundred chapters could lead to percentages of the whole. In working with the compositional structure of the work I did a cursory examination of each of the first ten chapters (cantos) to get an indication of the validity of my hypothesis that mathematics was inherent to the textual materials. Within minutes I knew there was a sophisticated mathematical system codified to the trilogy. Within the first few years of my analysis of the compositional structure of the trilogy I had basically unraveled Dante's mathematics; however, I was not completely satisfied with my analysis because I knew he had used some kind of an overall model: panacea from which his mathematics were developed from. I searched for that model for twelve years and finally 2

discovered it. I basically had the matrix for years put aside but did not know what I had when I initially developed it. It was a 10 x 10 matrix, which I named the UNIVERSAL MATHEMATICAL MATRIX: The Primum Mobile. I simply place Dante s 100 chapters (amount of verses) to the columns cells of the matrix and the subsequent analysis proved out my hypothesis that there was an overall model that he developed his work from. Some years before I was working on the seven day week and Dante's work simultaneously and it came about because early on in my researches on Dante's work I realized that he had used a 3 x 3 square: Kamea of Saturn (I did not know its name at the time). Dante's basic structure logically exuded the idea of a 3 x 3 square. I thought of the tic-tac-toe square at the time to express in a simple device a complex hypothesis I was developing concerning La Divina Commedia's mathematical structure. I remember the square because of a brainteaser I had once worked on as young teenager: a 3 x 3 square using just the first nine numbers. All eight directions had to add up to the same total when the first nine numbers are placed in the matrix s cells. In analyzing Dante work in relationship to this 3 x 3 matrix I quickly realized that Dante had deliberately used this device and this was not just an insertion on my part to explain his work. I had learned that it is called the Kamea of Saturn in talismanic magic xi, which is one magic square amongst a group associated to the Sun Signs of Astrology. I had done extensive research on the Kamea of Saturn and I knew it inside out and I had gained a vast amount of knowledge into its uses in antiquity even to demonstrate the I Ching: a Chinese oracle was developed from it: i.e. Lo Shu (Kamea of Saturn). One day I happen to be passing a calendar and normally I would look at the calendar week horizontally but on this occasion I viewed it through its vertical columns and it struck me how the numerical format of the seven day week (casting out nines) coincided perfectly with the numerical progression of one of the four numerical sequence imbued into the Kamea of Saturn: 7, 5, 3-1, 8, 6-4, 2, 9. It was surprising because the calendar is always present: how could it harbor any secrets not already known concerning it? xii I obtained a work xiii on the seven day week, which was written to explain it history and usage in western civilization. This work goes further and demonstrates throughout recorded history man had a number of variations of the length of the week: especially in religious circles. Some had religious celebrations and/or holidays every day (saints) or every two, three, four days, etc., etc. This got me thinking xiv and thus I set up a calendar week for every single one of the first nine numbers: anything else would be repetitious. Nine was repetitive since I was casting out nines because of the patterns demonstrated in the Kamea of Saturn. What I learned was that 1 and 8 had the same pattern but in reverse of each other. This also took place in the pairing of numbers 2 and 7, 3 and 6 and 4 and 5, which patterns coincided with the movement of the Chess pieces and placement of the Astrological Sun Signs in the Zodiacal cycle. You can imagine my surprise in seeing this kind of pure redundancy embedded in the world educational systems. I then xv took the last column of each of the days of the week and place them side by side creating an 8 x 9 matrix. To perfect the matrix two columns of nines flanking the first eight numbers and a row of nines on the top needed to be inserted. 3

I later realized that this was merely a play off of the multiplication tables though I had arrived at it conceptually from a roundabout way. Then I recognized that each of the multiplication tables casting out nines was merely mimicking the first multiplication table xvi. Each consecutive number and multiplication table after the number one was the image and likeness of the Monad (#1). Pythagoras had used the same matrix xvii to develop his mathematical theorems. This same matrix was used to write the first chapter of Genesis because both the Kabbalistic Tree of Life and the Star of David imbued into the Torah s texts are developed from it. A simple analysis of the matrix s graphic images in relationship to the graphic images exuding from the first chapter Genesis will bear this out. It was obvious to me that the number one: the MONAD is ZERO POINT: the singularity from which all is manifested into the world. DISCUSSING THE PATTERNS FOUND IN THE UNIVERSAL MATHEMATICAL MATRIX It is my intent to explain each of the illustrations in this paper in as much detail as is necessary for the reader to grasp its implications. I have already discussed the creation of the Universal Mathematical Matrix. I will now discuss each of its patterns lettered a-h; a) The numbers one and eight (1 and 8) can be seen to be in reverse order of each other vertically and horizontally. These two numbers take on the mantle of Mars in Astrology s Sun Signs. a. When highlighting just these two numbers one and eight throughout the matrix a pattern develops that appears to be symbolic of an explosion coming from a single Zero Point: singularity: big bang if you will. b. This singularity can be seen as a DOT as in the Dot, Line, Angle and Circle in Pythagorean mathematics from which he developed his Tetractys. c. Consider the movement of the Chess piece: the Rook. b) The numbers two and seven (2 and 7) are also found in reverse order of each other. These numbers two and seven take on the mantle of Venus in Astrology s Sun Signs. a. When highlighting just these two numbers two and seven throughout the matrix a pattern develops that appears to be symbolic of an implosion as if heading back towards the origin of the singularity. b. This pattern is seen as a LINE for both the number two and the number seven: each developing their own straight line across the matrix developing a gigantic Cross (X) in the matrix. c. Consider the movement of the Chess piece: the Bishop. c) The numbers three and six (3 and 6) are also found in reverse order of each other. These numbers three and six take on the mantle of Mercury in Astrology s Sun Signs. a. When highlighting just these two numbers three and six throughout the matrix a pattern develops that appears to be symbolically an ANGLE. 4

b. This pattern creates a 3 x 3 square (Kamea of Saturn) in a matrix wide image using twice the amount of material as the other six numbers. These two numbers are peculiar to themselves but I will not go into it here. c. Consider the movement of the Chess piece: the Knight d) The numbers four and five (4 and 5) are also found in reverse order of each other. These numbers four and five take on the mantle of the Moon and Sun in Astrology s Sun Signs respectively. a. When highlighting just these two numbers four and five throughout the matrix a pattern develops that appears to be symbolically a CIRCLE. b. This circle appears to be the Zodiac Cycle. c. Consider the movements of the Chess pieces the Queen and the King. e) The Kabbalistic Tree of Life is found to be graphically imbued into the matrix. a. The ten nines take on the mantle of the 10-Sefirahs: ten numbers. b. The 24-cells depicting the 12-diagonal lines using numbers three and six denote the 12-Single letters of the Hebrew alphabet. i. Note that nuance above use 3, 6, and 9 or numbers from the Mutable Signs of Astrology. c. The 14-cells depicting the 7-vertical lines using numbers one, four and seven denote the 7-Double letters of the Hebrew alphabet. i. These three numbers 1, 4 and 7 are Cardinal Signs of Astrology. d. The 6-cells depicting the 3-horizontal lines using numbers two denote the 3-Mother letters of the Hebrew alphabet. i. Note that this number two is within the group of numbers denoting the Fixed Signs of Astrology. e. This same Kabbalistic Tree of Life will be seen codified to the first chapter of Genesis: this will be discussed below. f) The Star of David is imbued into the Matrix. a. By using only half of the twelve cells used by numbers four and five in the matrix the Star of David emerges. b. This may appear to be arbitrary at this point; however, in the Zodiac/Calendar year the Star of David is imbued into our modern day calendar xviii. This image of the Star of David in the matrix is the origin of that idea and this will be gone into further below. c. This same graphic image of the Star of David will be seen codified to the first chapter of Genesis: this will be discussed below. g) The Three Dimensional Reality is depicted quite clearly by the placement of the numbers one and eight. By the use of either number this is easily demonstrated. In the Kabbalistic Tree of Life above this same idea is brought about through the placement of the Quadruplicities of Astrology in its graphic image: vertical, horizontal and diagonal. a. This concept is illustrated quite clearly in the first word of Genesis: BERESHITH: this will be discussed below. h) Pythagoras Matrix: this is the precise matrix found in Thomas Taylor s xix work as to having been developed by Pythagoras. In concluding the analysis of the graphic images found in the Universal Mathematical Matrix I am justified in pointing out that this is not a manmade matrix. Yes, I conceived of it only after many pieces of evidence were put into my path. If it was not for my initial researches 5

on the first chapter of Genesis and Dante Alighieri s La Divina Commedia the matrix would still be outside my grasp. To have envisaged the matrix concepts so fully as to divine how Pythagoras developed his ideas for the Tetractys, which ultimately developed his mathematical theorem, was quite a surprise but more so in seeing many of these graphic images and idea developed within the first chapter of Genesis. THE GENESIS FORMULA It is necessary to introduce the Genesis Formula that was developed from the first word of Genesis, which ultimately had to have been conceived and developed out of the Universal Mathematical Matrix by the ancient authors of the text. The idea here is that all of the Torah: Old and New Testament ultimately was divine from the Universal Mathematical Matrix. In the prologue of the Zohar xx there is a story that the 22-letters of the Hebrew alphabet: from the last to the first came before the Lord of the World to have the world created through one of them. In studying the first word of Genesis: BERESHITH spelled out: Beth-Resh-Aleph- Shin-Yud-Tav it can be seen in the skip-sequence of letters that the tale in the Zohar is a commentary on the first word of Genesis. By taking the commentary as fact and extrapolating on the given data from the text of the Torah: from the word Bereshith four other letters can be envisaged before the patterns is obscured. Another mystical nuance here is that the last four letters of the Hebrew alphabet: Tav, Shin, Resh and Qoph spell out the word Christ in Greek using Hebrew letters xxi. These are the first four letters into the Torah s texts. This goes according to the teachings outlined in the prologue of John s gospel where he says, in the beginning was the word and the word was with God and the word was God. The phrase in the beginning is the translation of the first word of Genesis: BERESHITH. Thus, John was referring to the fact that Christ existed before the dawn of creation: before the foundations of the earth. When studying the word Bereshith in relationship to the Zoharic story concerning the 22-letters coming into creation it can be seen that Tav, Shin, Resh and Qoph is the second coming of these letters inferring the second coming of Christ is a continuous ongoing event in the time space continuum. In looking at the Universal Mathematical Matrix s central eight column denoting the number one through four (1 thru 4) obverse and reverse the Genesis Formula can be envisaged. There are two extra number ones in the mix is to denote the divine influence: the number ones denote the Trinity. I place the 10-numbers into an area graphic program and what was developed was the Crown of Creation: Ketter, which Kabbalistic lore tells us would be found in this area of the first chapter of Genesis. I has also performed this same technique on Dante Alighieri s La 6

Divina Commedia s final twelve numbers and obtain an image of the Trinity in three silhouette images. These image coincided with Dante narrative of his end journey in the three realms of spirit where he had a vision of the Trinity. When taking the ten numbers of the Genesis Formula and placing them into a circle we find several other graphic images emerging. The first image that presented itself was similar to the Star of David that is inherent in the Zodiac/Calendar year and in which was found to exactly match the Zodiac/Calendar year codified to Dante Alighieri s La Divina Commedia. The positioning of the four ones was very suggestive of this possiblity. I then took these ten wedges in the cycle and gave them equal space around the circle. Immediately the pattern that emerged suggested the basic pattern of the Kabbalistic Tree of Life. And finally I took the two fours in the Genesis Formula pattern and split them into four twos creating a twelve part cycle. When placing the first number one in the wedge that would normally be assign to the Astrological sign of Aries the pattern for the Star of David emerged without problems. Hence I had a cycle that was very reminiscent of the Zodiac/Calendar year. However; I am fully cognizant of this data being merely tentative to varification of additional data and evidence, which I will produce below. These remarks on the Genesis Formula and the patterns that are generated from it suggest they are mini-versions of a greater design in the overall text of the first chapter of Genesis. Esoteric research is a topsy-turvy enterprise at best simply because the esoterist in modern times has no idea of what to expect. In the writing of this paper there is no chronological order that can be outlined explaining how different aspects of this material were discovered and/or developed. There is no linear or sequential process which lays it all out in a nice and neat package. At best I can only give a sense of order to this material in the telling of it. So realistically speaking much of what was written above actually was developed after what is outlined below and vice versa. It is for all intent and purpose a gigantic jigsaw puzzle tossed in the air and we have to somehow wade through it to make sense of it. ANALYZING THE KABBALISTIC TREE OF LIFE CODIFIED TO THE FIRST CHAPTER OF GENESIS I was browsing an occult book store one day and came upon Rabbi Aryeh Kaplan s work on the Sefer Yetzirah xxii. I thought that here was a very thick commentary on a very obscure Kabbalistic work and it possibly could be useful. However; it sat on a bookshelf for a while as I pursued other matters and when I did read it it made no sense. After several times it still made no sense and then one day I realized that I was overlooking a given from Kaplan s work. He talks about the 32-times Elohym is mentioned in the first chapter of Genesis as representing the Kabbalistic Tree of Life. He also produces a chart in sequential order: the 32-times Elohym is 7

mentioned and list the word in the text that is associated to each of them. He also lists each Elohym s connection to one of the four categories of the Kabbalistic Tree of Life: Sefirah (numbers), Single, Double and Mother letters. As I went down this chart s list and noted each Elohym and the word associated to it and its Kabbalistic category I notice an odd discrepancy in the listing. Two of the 32Elohyms were not listed logically to the Kabbalistic Tree of Life as were the other thirty. So I set out to discovery what the problem was. The first Elohym mentioned says, Elohym created and Rabbi Kaplan lists this as a Sefirah. This is off point because there are three other listings for Elohym created and they are all listed as Elementals (Single letters). Throughout the list Rabbi Kaplan lists all the times Elohym said (desired) as Sefirahs (9-times) except for the last time found in number thirty-one (31) in the sequence he list as an Elemental (Single letter). I of course corrected these errors shown in the shaded area of the list and placed the entire list into a circle of thirty-two wedges to see what would develop. I categorized each wedge according to its Kabbalistic reference. I then marked off the ten Sefirahs and found them in a synchronistic pattern. Eight of the ten Sefirahs were paired off into four sets 180 from one another. It did not seem to me that there was enough data to warrant that kind of pattern randomly placed into the text. The two Sefirahs not positioned 180 from one another were paired off by not being put 180 apart. Thus all ten Sefirahs were paired off into five sets. In viewing the three Mother letters it was found that one set was placed 180 from another and that the seven Double letters there was no pairings found whatsoever. That category alone seems to validate deliberation in the placement of this data. What would further substantiate this hypothesis is the analysis of the twelve single (Elemental) letters. Six of the twelve Single letters are paired off into three sets 180 from one another structuring a gigantic Star of David in the texts of the first chapter of Genesis. In the final analysis it was determined that sixteen out of 32-Elohyms were paired off into eight sets 180 from one another. 8

The most striking part in the analysis of the Star of David is discovering that the Star of David in the Universal Mathematical Matrix was used to guide the structuring of the Star of David in the first chapter of Genesis. When studying the matrix it can be seen that two fives and one four is used in each of the triangle that make up the Star of David. This leaves four fours and two fives remaining. Those six numbers total to cells (counted as one each) creating the Star of David to total to 32. Now look at the Star of David in the circle of Elohyms in the first chapter of Genesis. Note the six positions that form the Star of David. Now note how many positions lay between each of the points of the star: = 26 plus 6 = 32positions: mirroring the numerical data in the Universal Mathematical Matrix. With this kind of confirmation we have direct evidence that this abstract mathematical matrix developed from the Monad was used to write the first chapter of Genesis. ADDITIONAL ESOTRERIC NUANCES OBSERVED IN THE FIRST CHAPTER OF GENESIS A continuous study of the Kabbalistic Tree of Life reveals very sophisticated mathematical nuances. For example: the central column of the Kabbalistic Tree of Life is the diameter of its circle of data. In this case the diameter of the circle is the aggregate of positions 3 to 18 = 168 (hours in a week), which denotes half the circle. The circumference of the circle is determined by the aggregate of 32 = 528 and/or by x 168 = That is a very sophisticated calculation of pi. However, pi is also noted in a number of other places in the text of the first chapter of Genesis. For example the amount of verses in the first chapter of Genesis is 31 = the cube of pi. The word Elohymxxiii when broken down into is numerical format casting out nines gives the formula for pi: Finally, Bereshith: the first word of Genesis is noted in the Zohar as representing the six ordinal directions and when it is calculated out to its fullest it reveals a sphere and/or a cubexxiv. Calculating the size of the spherexxv (spherical mathematics) denotes the amount of chapters and verses in the book of Genesis. Also when studying the seven day week in relationship to the diameter of the Kabbalistic Tree of Life in relationship to its 16-Elohyms designated to its four categories: Sefirahs, Single, Double and Mother letters other nuances are revealed. The several Sefirahs amount to 48 (2 days) using their numbered positions to calculate the total. The Single and Double letters each total to 48 (2 days of the week each). The Mother letters in this mix totals to 24 (1 day). What is being inferred is the Kundalini Serpent coiled 3½-times around the central column of the tree liken to the lingam at the bottom of the spine. It is not difficult to see what tempted Eve in Yahweh s garden. However; if this was the only example of the Kundalini in the text it could be considered an anomaly. But considered the amount of words used in the first day of creation: 31 and in the second day there are 38-words. Combined there are 69-words. The third and fourth days of creation each have 69-words. Thus the first four days of creation total to 207-words. The word LIGHT in the text has the Gematria value of 207. Hence it is not difficult to see why the third to the sixteen positions of the 32-Elohym would take in only the first four days of creation. The Kundalini is considered a serpent of LIGHTxxvi. There are 1449-words in the first four chapters of Genesis. When 1449 / 69 = 21 is calculated out sixty-nine is divided into it equally. Now the first chapter of Genesis has six days or more than 6 x 69.: thus 21 / 6 = 3½ or three and a half coils of the Kundalini Serpent. This material can also be demonstrated to represent the Ouroboros and the Rattler. There are 69-groups of words held together by 80-hyphens. This now produces 22examples of 69 inferring a reference to the 22-letters of the Hebrew alphabet. However, hyphens 9

are considered insignificant to the main body of the text. Why take any notice of the hyphens at all? Because there are 434-words in the first chapter of Genesis and when 69 is subtracted from it the remainder is 365 or the amount of days in the Solar Calendar and when 80 is subtracted from 434 the remainder is 354 or the amount of days in a Luna Calendar. The Zohar tells us that Yahweh represents the Sun and Elohym represents the Moon. Why 434-words in the first chapter of Genesis? There is but one Hebrew letter that has the Gematria equivalent of 434 and that is Daleth. Daleth is the fourth letter of the Hebrew alphabet and symbolically represents DOOR. How s that for irony that the ancients are telling us that the first chapter of Genesis is the Door to spirituality. At both ends of the Genesis Formula is a number four. Did not Christ say in the New Testament, I am the door? In ancient times the sacred scriptures was considered the Tomb of Christxxvii. Hence, he who interprets the texts correctly raises Christ from the dead. Notice how those 434-words are right in front of the reader and he is unaware of the esoteric missive they contain. This is why it can be said that no one is hiding the esoteric science: the world just does not want it for they are not looking for it. Finally, the last example I am going to give concerning esotericism in these particular matters relating to the Star of David and the Kabbalistic Tree of Life concerns the letter PEI. PEI [ ]פ is literally the first letter of the bible but it cannot be seen with the naked eye without difficulty though it has a symbiotic relationship to the first letter of the Torah: BETH that can be seen with the eye. PEI is that white area that is in and surrounds the letter BETH. Symbolically, PEI represents MOUTH. The mouth has 32-teeth as in 32-paths of the Kabbalistic Tree of Life. Also PEI is the seventeenth letter of the Hebrew alphabet and symbolically relates to the seventeenth Major Arcana Tarot Card: THE STAR. It is no wonder that both the Star of David and the Kabbalistic Tree of Life are in miniature in the Genesis Formula and later enlarged in the main body of the text of the first chapter of Genesis. From the mouth [PEI] comes breathe as in the spirit (wind) of Elohym moved over the face of the waters. Also PEI has the numerical value of 80 and there are 80-letters in the first two verses of Genesis (not to forget about the eighty hyphens) again denoting multiple redundancies. The Moon is insignificant to the Sun, which denotes the surface textual materials making the esoteric materials beneath the text insignificant to the materialist just as the hyphens are considered insignificant denoting the Lunar Calendar year. In noting the first letter of the Torah: PEI relationship to BETH esotericism is shown to be a primary force in the text from the inception of the sacred scriptures: it is melding or marrying the esoteric to the exoteric. Though the twain shall never meet they will never part. IN CONCLUSION In this paper I have given the reader a deluge of information on some of the practical techniques used to study esoteric materials. Furthermore, I have augmented this thesis by producing demonstrable evidence so that the initiate can validate for himself whether I am speaking the truth concerning the esoteric science and the origins of esotericism. Learning that there are valid techniques to bring to the fore in one s studies into the Hermetic Sciences and learning that it is not just wishful thinking and that there are valid and practical techniques to augment his researches into esotericism is a boon for the initiate and for mankind as a whole. This is a cursory examination of my researches into the first four chapters of Genesis: that research far exceeds the little that I presented in this paper. I endeavor only to present that material, with the serendipitous mystique that generated it, that was consistent with the original theme of the paper. I wrote this paper because I do not see anyone else in the literature 10

presenting material like it. It is as if the whole of the Esoteric Community has no concept of what esotericism is all about. I have a personal mantra that demonstrable evidence is the only form of communication when it comes to complex subjects matters such as the Esoteric Science. The whole of the Esoteric Community is sitting on a whale fishing for minnows. It is long past the time of prudence for those that think they know what esotericism is all about to put up or shut up. And it is the responsibility of the publishing community to hold every so-called esoteric author to the flames of demonstrable evidence. Eternal rhetoric no can longer soothe the desires and agonies of the soul in quest of its birthright. If ancient esoteric authors failed to give account of themselves via the flames of demonstrable evidence what do I care what they have to say? There is a work called the Rosarium Philosophorum that I did a detail esoteric analysis on some years ago: someday I will publish it as a paper but there is an example of someone hundreds of years ago that produced a series of woodcut carvings illustrating his knowledge of the first verses of Genesis esoterically. Those that compare my remarks to those woodcut carvings would be hard press to know what I am speaking of. We need people that are willing to sacrifice their livesxxviii: time, family, friends, finances and social status: in other words flee the dictates and mandates of the world in order to deluge themselves in the esoteric materials so they will be able to rip from the heart of creation the sacred fire. Without that kind of commitment Esotericism in this day and age is doomed to fade into the ethers. However; I also believe that if the average initiate, that is sincere in his quest to understand the laws of life, is given a logical and verifiable path to traverse he will from there cross the wilderness of the mind of man on his own volition. He just needs a little guidance in the right areaxxix. I am hopeful that this paper will give confidence to those out there waiting for such direction. 12 ENDNOTES i In this paper the Monad is considered a symbol for God. THE SECRETS & THE MYSTERIES OF GENESIS: Antiquity s Hall of Records, 2003, by William John Meegan, published by Trafford Publishers (most if not all of this material in this paper was originally developed and published in this work.) iii Esotericism is hidden because this is the nature of our world but it is not hidden from those that are prepared to receive it. It is hidden from the profane only because they have endeavored to search for it. It will be there for them when they wake up from their slothfulness. iv The Seven Liberal Arts are a gift from the Holy Spirit. THE VOICE OF THE EAGLE: Homily on the Prologue to the Gospel of St. John, by John Scotus Eriugena, published by Lindisfarne Press 1990 v HISTORICAL ATLAS OF WORLD MYTHOLOGY (5 Vols.) 1988, by Joseph Campbell, published by Harper & Row, Publishers New York vi In the Torah this is illustrated as Yahweh over Elohym (E over I) or Elohym over Yahweh (I over E). vii THE COLLECTED WORKS OF CARL G. JUNG, I highly recommend the works of CG Jung because his ideas on the psyche are right on par with the teachings of the esoteric science. The sacred scriptures are a compendium of archetypes of the collective unconscious. viii Actually Astrology is the foundation of all the sacred scriptures of the world simply because it was given birth from the mathematics exuding from the empyrean. ix This sacred fire has been given many names over the ages. It most famous moniker is the Holy Grail. x THE CONQUEST OF GENESIS: A Study in Universal Creation Mathematics, by William John Meegan, published by the Edwin Mellen Press xi TALISMANIC MAGIC, by Robin Skelton, published by Samuel Weiser, Inc xii This of course is a rhetorical question; however, it is one that each of us ask about the enumerable forms of the mundane without verbalizing it. xiii THE SEVEN DAY CIRCLE: The History and the Meaning of the Week, by Eviatar Zerubavel, published by The University of Chicago Press 1985 xiv I would like to point out here that my progress into the esoteric science was solely dependent of my thinking outside the box so to speak and willing to test out my hypothesis to validate my thought processes. Do you see what I am getting at here? It is our own analytical abilities that enable us to break the code of the esoteric science. xv It is our ability to extrapolate from the given data that enable the researcher to move forward in his thinking. xvi What I mean by this is that the two times table is merely the first two being number one. Two times two is four but it represents the number two in the multiplication table #2, hence all multiplication tables were mimicking the first multiplication table. xvii When one thinks about it it is quite an eerie phenomenon that every grammar and high school student carries a compositional book around that has this very multiplication table matrix in the inner cover of one of its flaps. The secrets of esotericism in the hands of every child: imagine that. xviii It should be noted that the mythos concerning Julius Caesar and Augustus Caesar having something to do with the creation of the modern calendar is just that a mythological story to account for the creation of the modern day calendar. The Universal Mathematical Matrix and the Genesis Formula outlined in the first chapter of Genesis demonstrate the nuances of the modern calendar were known long before the Roman Empire came into existence. xix Theoretic Arithmetic of the Pythagoreans (1816), by Thomas Taylor, published by Kessinger Publishing s xx The Zohar, by Rabbi Shimon bar Yochai with Commentary of Rabbi Yehuda Ashlag, published by the Press of the Yeshivat Kol Yehuda, published in Canada xxi A MYSTICAL KEY TO THE ENGLISH LANGUAGE (pg. 1), by Robert M. Hoffstein, published by Destiny Books 1992 xxii Sefer Yetzirah: The Book of Creation in Theory and Practice, by Aryeh Kaplan, published by Samuel Weiser, Inc xxiii ELOHYM: Aleph (1), Lemmed (30 = 3), Heh (5), Yud (10 = 1) and Mem (40 = 4); going counterclockwise the formula reads Such a nuance coming directly from the very word that is used to denote GOD in the Torah s text infers appropriately that spirituality represents 50% of the life force in real time. This is further inferred in the fact that Yahweh Gematria value is 26 = 8 and Elohym = 86 = 5, which denotes one of the sequence pairs in the Fibonacci sequence of the Golden Ratio, which represents the mathematical formula for life on earth. Furthermore, this nuance is additionally referenced in the first word of Genesis: BERESHITH. Half the letters are odd numbers and total to five (5), when casting out nines, and the other half are even and total to eight (8). The first word of ii 12

Genesis; BERESHITH is translated created six (bara shith), which totals the amount of words in the first two verses to 22: eight (5) words in the first verses and fourteen (14 = 5) in the second verse. Also in looking at the Kabbalistic Tree of Life the first four days of creation (diameter of the circle) have 17 (8)-verses and the other half of the chapter has 14 (5)-verses. With this kind of redundancy played out throughout the texts of the first chapter of Genesis it is difficult not to envisage the missive it carries. The individual and by inference humanity as a whole is missing out on more than half of the life force that is available, while journeying through this life cycle s experience, when the spiritual aspects of life are not paid attention to. xxiv This cube of pi can be seen as a symbolic inference (a point of redundancy) to cubing the word Bereshith. xxv The first letter of the word BERESHITH is Beth, which is the controlling factor in the calculation. Since Beth is east and represents #2 then all other directions: west, north, south, up and down would have equal value of number two. Thus the diameter of the circle would be four and completing the calculation produces for the surface of the sphere. There are 50-chapters in the book of Genesis. The volume of said sphere is Drop the decimals the figure is Reverse this figure to 1533: the total amount of verses in the first chapter of Genesis. xxvi There are many other nuances in relationship to these first four days of creation and the fact that they represent the LIGHT (God) of creation. The nuances concerning the Kundalini give a very good example of how the ancient wove their texts quite tightly in relationship to esotericism. xxvii THE VOICE OF THE EAGLE: Homely on the Prologue to the Gospel of St. John, by John Scotus Eriugena, published by Lindisfarne Press 1990 [pg 23, Christ s tomb is Holy Scripture, in which the mysteries of his divinity and humanity are secured by the weight of the letter, just as the tomb is secured by the stone. ] xxviii What I mean by this is that the initiate has to make a monastery out of his life if he is sincere in the quest for the Holy Grail: the esoteric science. Not necessarily would it be advantageous for anyone to enter a monastery for much can be accomplish as an individual hermit in the midst of society. To spend one time, energy and resources in the accumulation of knowledge concerning the esoteric science is a divine obsession. The goal is to obtain the pearl of great price: go sell all you have and give to the poor and come follow me, in other words, give up the world to obtain me, says Christ, I am the pearl of great price. xxix No one needs a guru: a temporary guide: maybe, such as teachers met in passing via the primary school s educational system. God should be the initiate s only escort into the realm of spiritual understanding. 13
